Ionization of water clusters by collision with surface

New results of the investigations of the phenomenon of the ion formation and separation at the neutral water cluster scattering by solid surface are reported. First, molecular dynamics simulation has shown the possibility of polar dissociation of water molecules in (H ₂ O)_n cluster with n = 34 and 64 during their impact with a rigid surface. Second, the current of ions rebound from target and the current to the target at scattering of (H2O)_n clusters (up to n = 50000) by various targets are measured. Third, we have measured the water-cluster-induced electrification of the electric field mill sensor, which has been used for the rocket measurement of mesospheric electric field structure in the vicinity of noctilucent clouds (NLC). A comparison between these and rocket measurements shows that the fluctuations of the field mill signal detected when a rocket was passing the NLC layer is a result of the impact of NLC particles on the field mill electrodes.     

Friedrichs Method in a Lyapunov Problem

By using the well-known Friedrichs extension and some a priori inequality, we obtain weak solutions of a Lyapunov equation. In particular, we show that the Lyapunov functions satisfying necessary and sufficient conditions in the domain of asymptotic stability of a singular point some dynamical system must be absolutely continuous.     

A novel rhodamine-based turn-on probe for fluorescent detection of Au3+ and colorimetric detection of Cu2+

In this work, we design and synthesize the novel probe RC through introduction the 1-aza-4,13-dithia-15-crown-5 ring into the structure of rhodamine 6G hydrazide, where the N atom of crown ring is responsible for quenching of rhodamine fluorescence. The compound obtained behaves as multifunctional cation sensor providing selective fluorescent response to Au³⁺ and selective colorimetric response to Cu²⁺ ions in aqueous acetonitrile (1/1, v/v) at pH 7.0. The use of 10^?5?M RC solution allowed reliable determination of target cations in the presence of a wide range of environmentally relevant ions with detection limits of 2?×?10^?6?M and 5?×?10^?7?M for gold and copper, respectively.

Application of the model of an edge dislocation in the form of a uniformly charged filament for description of light diffraction from alkali halide and covalent crystals

The interaction of an optical electromagnetic wave with a system of parallel charged edge dislocations in alkali halide and covalent crystals is studied. The optical activity of dislocations is associated with the existence of shielding clouds of mobile point defects with a radius of the order of the wavelength of incident light. Expressions relating the amplitude of the diffracted wave to the parameters of crystal defects (the density of point defects and the density and linear charge of dislocations) are obtained. Methods for the experimental estimation of defect parameters from the characteristics of the diffraction pattern are proposed.
