Decay of 120Sb

Single γ spectra and K _X coincidence spectra from ¹²⁰Sb decay are measured. The total internal conversion coefficients (ICCs) and those on the K-shell are determined for slowed E1 and E2 transitions in ¹²⁰Sn. Penetration effects are observed for which the penetration parameters are found to be λ₁ (89.9 keV, E1) = 3.6 ± 1.6 and λ₁ (197.3 keV, E2) = 6 ± 2.     

Calculated momentum dependence of Zhang-Rice states in transition metal oxides

Using a combination of local density functional theory and cluster exact diagonalization based dynamical mean field theory, we calculate many-body electronic structures of several Mott insulating oxides including undoped high T(c) materials. The dispersions of the lowest occupied electronic states are associated with the Zhang-Rice singlets in cuprates and with doublets, triplets, quadruplets, and quintets in more general cases. Our results agree with angle resolved photoemission experiments including the decrease of the spectral weight of the Zhang-Rice band as it approaches k=0.

Study of <Superscript>179</Superscript>Hf<Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">m</Emphasis>2</Superscript> excitation

Isomeric ratios of ¹⁷⁹Hf ^m2,g yields in the (γ, n) reaction and the cross section for the ¹⁷⁹Hf ^m2 population in the (α, p) reaction are measured for the first time at the end-point energies of 15.1 and 17.5 MeV for bremsstrahlung photons and 26 MeV for alpha particles. The results are σ = (1.1 ± 0.11) × 10^?27 cm² for the ¹⁷⁶Lu(α, p)¹⁷⁹Hf ^m2 reaction and Y _m2/Y _g = (6.1 ± 0.3) × 10^?6 and (3.7 ± 0.2) × 10^?6 for the ¹⁸⁰Hf(γ, n)¹⁷⁹Hf ^m22 reaction at Е _ep =15.1 and 17.5 MeV, respectively. The experimental data on the relative ¹⁷⁹Hf ^m2 yield indicate a single-humped shape of the excitation function for the ¹⁸⁰Hf(γ, n)¹⁷⁹Hf ^m2 reaction. Simulation is performed using the TALYS-1.4 and EMPIRE-3.2 codes.     

The alpha--> gamma transition in Ce: a theoretical view from optical spectroscopy

Using a novel approach to calculate optical properties of strongly correlated systems, we address the old question of the physical origin of the alpha--> gamma transition in Ce. We find that the Kondo collapse model, involving both the f and the spd electrons, describes the optical data better than a Mott transition picture involving the f electrons only. Our results compare well with existing experiments on thin films. We predict the full temperature dependence of the optical spectra and find the development of a hybridization pseudogap in the vicinity of the alpha--> gamma phase transition.
