We report a detailed study of the phonon properties of hexagonal boron nitride (BN) monolayers as well as nanotubes by using De Launay type of angular force model. The force constants used for calculation of phonon dispersion relations of the nanotube are derived from those for the monolayers of hexagonal by employing force constant method. These force constants have been modified to include the effect of curvature of the tubule. The results are then used to derive the phonon dispersion relations for (10,10) BN nanotubes using ‘zone-folding’ method. Calculated phonon modes are in good agreement with the experimental values obtained so far, for (10,10) armchair BN nanotubes.  相似文献

Self-organized ZnAl2O4 nanostructures with the appearance (in SEM) of high aspect ratio horizontal nanowires are grown on uncatalysed c-sapphire by vapour phase transport. The nanostructures grow as three equivalent crystallographic variants on c-sapphire. Raman and cathodoluminescence spectroscopy confirm that the nanostructures are not ZnO and TEM shows that they are the cubic spinel, zinc aluminate, ZnAl2O4, formed by the reaction of Zn and O with the sapphire substrate.  相似文献

 For the analysis of infrared spectroscopic bands and complex patterns partial cross correlation functions of a sample spectrum with reference spectra are calculated. The chosen ranges of the spectra are based on empirical knowledge of infrared spectrum structure correlations. The normalised maxima of the partial cross correlation functions are interpreted as fuzzy truth values and are combined by fuzzy logical operators. By application of that procedure larger common substructures will be derived from the reference spectra than by a maximum common substructure search based on the complete spectra. CR-39 is a polycarbonate widely used as SSNTD for recording nuclear charged particles and in other applications. Latent ion tracks produced in the polymers due to the damage produced by the passage of Swift Heavy Ions contain amorphous material with highest degree of disorder, changing the free volume properties which have strong correlation with the macroscopic properties of the material. Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) provides direct information about the dimension, content and hole size distribution of free volume in polymers. The effect of irradiation of 40Ar (14.9 MeV/n) ions on CR-39 polycarbonate by Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy (PALS) is reported here. PALS provides a non-destructive and non-interfering probe, having high detection efficiency for free volume hole properties. From o-Ps lifetime mean free volume hole radius and average free volume of the micro-voids have been calculated. PAL measurement shows an increase in free volume on irradiation.  相似文献

It has been found that the states of the 2-charge extremal D1–D5 system are given by smooth geometries that have no singularity and no horizon individually, but a ‘horizon’ does arise after ‘coarse-graining’. To see how this concept extends to the 3-charge extremal system, we construct a perturbation on the D1–D5 geometry that carries one unit of momentum charge P. The perturbation is found to be regular everywhere and normalizable, so we conclude that at least this state of the 3-charge system behaves like the 2-charge states. The solution is constructed by matching (to several orders) solutions in the inner and outer regions of the geometry. We conjecture the general form of ‘hair’ expected for the 3-charge system, and the nature of the interior of black holes in general.  相似文献

Pre-scission and post-scission multiplicities of neutrons and alpha particles have been simultaneously measured for the fission-like reactions of 340 MeV 28Si on 232Th. Dynamical model calculations using HICOL code predict that about 90% of the observed events are of quasi-fission type while the remaining 10% are from compound nucleus fission decay. Moving source fits were carried out to the observed neutron and alpha particle spectra, measured at different angles with respect to the fragment directions. The pre-scission and post-scission neutron multiplicities are deduced to be 8.7±2.0 and 9.4±2.0, respectively. The corresponding multiplicity values for alpha particles are found to be 0.22±0.08 and 0.1±0.03. From the measured post-scission neutron multiplicity, it is inferred that about 65±20 MeV of the initial excitation energy remains at scission. This may be compared to the value of 85±30 MeV estimated from PACE2 statistical model calculations, adjusted to reproduce the measured pre-scission neutron multiplicity. From a comparison of the Statistical Model predictions with the measured pre-scission neutron multiplicity, the fission delay is estimated to be of 5+7−3×10−20 s which overlaps with the average duration of fission-like process from the contact to the scission point (2×10−20 s) as determined from HICOL-based dynamical calculations. For the delay time deduced as above, the pre-scission alpha particle multiplicity calculated by the PACE2 code is about a factor two larger than the experimental one, demonstrating the difficulties in modelling the alpha particle emission from highly elongated shapes that characterize the fissioning system from the contact point to scission.  相似文献

Noncovalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonding, metal coordination, and π-π stacking, are increasingly being utilized to develop well-ordered and self-organized supramolecular materials. Recently, new types of nonclassical weak interactions, such as C H···π, C H···F C, and C H···O, have been exploited in stabilizing the specific conformations of molecules and molecular assemblies in the solid state. These noncovalent interactions play an important role in materials comprised of polymer chains, because cooperative effects from a large number of weak interactions can lead to drastic changes in its conformation, several properties, and functionalities. The programmed design of synthetic helical polymer with well-defined molecular conformation has been the main subject in modern polymer science and engineering. Silicon-catenated polysilane is an ideal helical silicon quantum wire and polymers with unique photophysical properties. The present review highlights the spectroscopic evidences for through-space weak Si···F C interaction in poly(methyl-3,3,3-trifluoropropylsilane) ( 1 ) in noncoordinating and coordinating solvents by means of NMR (29Si and 19F) and IR spectroscopies, and viscometric measurement. It was found that 1 is applicable for chemosensors with an extremely high sensitivity and selectivity toward fluoride ions in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and with high sensitivity for nitroaromatic compounds, detected by a decrease in the photoluminescence intensity in THF and in thin solid film. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In the present communication, we report the studies concerning liquid–liquid–solid equilibria for the ternary system sodium thiosulphate (Na2S2O3) + ethanol + water at ambient pressure and at room temperature (303 ± 2 K). The solubility data of Na2S2O3 are reported for solutions in water, ethanol and solutions of varying concentrations of ethanol in water. The phase diagram for the said system is developed, described and compared with similar system K2CO3 + methanol + water. These results have been explained in terms of structural properties of aqueous ethanol solutions and further discussed in terms of the effect of ions to cause phase separation.  相似文献
