An adaptive hierarchical grid‐based method for predicting complex free surface flows is used to simulate collapse of a water column. Adapting quadtree grids are combined with a high‐resolution interface‐capturing approach and pressure‐based coupling of the Navier–Stokes equations. The Navier–Stokes flow solution scheme is verified for simulation of flow in a lid‐driven cavity at Re=1000. Two approaches to the coupling of the Navier–Stokes equations are investigated as are alternative face velocity and hanging node interpolations. Collapse of a water column as well as collapse of a water column and its subsequent interaction with an obstacle are simulated. The calculations are made on uniform and adapting quadtree grids, and the accuracy of the quadtree calculations is shown to be the same as those made on the equivalent uniform grids. Results are in excellent agreement with experimental and other numerical data. A sharp interface is maintained at the free surface. The new adapting quadtree‐based method achieves a considerable saving in the size of the computational grid and CPU time in comparison with calculations made on equivalent uniform grids. Proposals for current reform in science education elaborate national standards and a plethora of state-level interpretations commonly labeled as curriculum or learning frameworks. The purpose of this case study was to examine the dynamics of the science curriculum reform process in one of the first school districts to use the Georgia Framework for Learning Mathematics and Science as a basis for their reform initiative. The paper describes the ways in which members of the Olympia School District's Science Curriculum Committee participated in the science curriculum reform process, as well as their personal beliefs about the criteria needed for reform to take place. The results highlight the nature of metaphors guiding reform efforts; the influence of social, historical, economic, and political forces on the reform process; the use of local and professional languages as discourses for communicating about reform; and the complex power relations that influence the micropolitics of reform in the Olympia School District. This study has important implications for other teachers and school districts engaged in standards-based science curriculum reform. It points to the need for reform to include reflection and analysis of the role of teachers in the reform process and consideration of the purpose of science education reform in society.  相似文献

Analytical techniques for the detection of 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazatetracyclo(5.5.0.05,9.03,11)dodecane (CL-20) in water and soil are developed by adapting methods traditionally used for the analysis of nitroaromatics. CL-20 (a new explosives compound) is thermally labile, exhibits high polarity, and has low solubility in water. These constraints make the use of specialized sample handling, preparation, extraction, and analysis necessary. The ability to determine the concentrations of this new explosive compound in environmental matrices is helpful in understanding the environmental fate and effects of CL-20; understanding the physical, chemical, and biological fate of CL-20; and can be used in developing remediation technologies and determining their efficiency. The toxicity and mobility of new explosives in soil and groundwater are also of interest, and analytical techniques for quantitating CL-20 and its degradation products in soil and natural waters make these investigations possible.  相似文献

The efficient preparation of 4-aryl-4-phenylsulfonyl cyclohexanones, containing a quaternary sulfone-bearing carbon centre, is described. Their synthesis proceeds in 38-78% overall yield by way of three steps: (i) sulfinate alkylation; (ii) methylenation; and (iii) regioselective Diels-Alder condensation with 2-trimethylsiloxybutadiene. The scope and limitations of the one-pot Mannich-type methylenation described were examined.  相似文献

The reactions of 4-isopropylidene-1-aryl-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones 4a-d were investigated under a variety of conditions. In the presence of thiols or piperidine, 4a-d failed to yield conjugate addition products, presumably due to the steric bulk provided by the two methyl substituents of the isopropylidene side chain. Reaction of 4a-d with hydrazine derivatives gave the 1-aryl-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones 3a-d and isopropyl-hydrazones. Treatment of 4a with potassium cyanide yielded a stable conjugate addition product which exists as a mixture of tautomers in different solvents. Also, oxidation of 4a with hydrogen peroxide gave a spiroepoxide 22 , while m-chloroperbenzoic acid oxidation afforded both the spiroepoxide 22 , and a small quantity of a hydroxyspiroepoxide 23.  相似文献
