Multi-modality imaging (such as PET-CT) is rapidly becoming a valuable tool in the diagnosis of disease and in the development of new drugs. Functional images produced with PET, fused with anatomical images created by MRI, allow the correlation of form with function. Perhaps more exciting than the combination of anatomical MRI with PET, is the melding of PET with MR spectroscopy (MRS). Thus, two aspects of physiology could be combined in novel ways to produce new insights into the physiology of normal and pathological processes. Our team is developing a system to acquire MRI images and MRS spectra, and PET images contemporaneously. The prototype MR-compatible PET system consists of two opposed detector heads (appropriate in size for small animal imaging), operating in coincidence mode with an active field-of-view of approximately 14 cm in diameter. Each detector consists of an array of LSO detector elements coupled through a 2-m long fiber optic light guide to a single position-sensitive photomultiplier tube. The use of light guides allows these magnetic field-sensitive elements of the PET imager to be positioned outside the strong magnetic field of our 3T MRI scanner. The PET scanner imager was integrated with a 12-cm diameter, 12-leg custom, birdcage coil. Simultaneous MRS spectra and PET images were successfully acquired from a multi-modality phantom consisting of a sphere filled with 17 brain relevant substances and a positron-emitting radionuclide. There were no significant changes in MRI or PET scanner performance when both were present in the MRI magnet bore. This successful initial test demonstrates the potential for using such a multi-modality to obtain complementary MRS and PET data.  相似文献

Abstract— The chemiluminescence (CL) emitted during the peroxidase catalyzed oxidation of purpurogallin and pyrogallol depends on one and two molecules of enzyme, respectively. Using microperoxidase, CL with purpurogallin also depends on two molecules of enzyme (above 0.3 μ M enzyme). Sodium azide inhibits the CL emitted by all reactions depending on two molecules of enzyme but enhances the CL of reactions depending on one molecule of peroxidase (purpurogallin + 0.75 n M horseradish peroxidase). The formation of functional enzyme dimols during the oxidative process is discussed.  相似文献

Longitudinal multispin orders provide an effective way for measurement of scalar couplings and also to probe molecular interactions and dynamics. Analysis of longitudinal orders has been made in strongly coupled AB and ABX spin systems to determine the dependence of strong coupling parameter on these orders. Experimental and simulated spectra of various longitudinal orders are illustrated for these spin systems. This general procedure can be extended to broad range of spin systems to understand the influence of strong coupling on longitudinal orders.  相似文献

This study presents sonoassisted microbial reduction of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) using Bacillus sp. isolated from tannery effluent contaminated site. The experiments were carried out with free cells in the presence and absence of ultrasound. The optimum pH and temperature for the reduction of Cr(VI) by Bacillus sp. were found to be 7.0 and 37 °C, respectively. The Cr(VI) reduction was significantly influenced by the electron donors and among the various electron donors studied, glucose offered maximum reduction. The ultrasound-irradiated reduction of Cr(VI) with Bacillus sp. showed efficient Cr(VI) reduction. The percent reduction was found to increase with an increase in biomass concentration and decrease with an increase in initial concentration. The changes in the functional groups of Bacillus sp., before and after chromium reduction were observed with FTIR spectra. Microbial growth was described with Monod and Andrews model and best fit was observed with Andrews model.  相似文献

In this work, we propose a novel strategy for the fabrication of flexible thermoplastic microdevices entirely based on lamination processes. The same low-cost laminator apparatus can be used from master fabrication to microchannel sealing. This process is appropriate for rapid prototyping at laboratory scale, but it can also be easily upscaled to industrial manufacturing. For demonstration, we used here Cycloolefin Copolymer (COC), a thermoplastic polymer that is extensively used for microfluidic applications. COC is a thermoplastic polymer with good chemical resistance to common chemicals used in microfluidics such as acids, bases and most polar solvents. Its optical quality and mechanical resistance make this material suitable for a large range of applications in chemistry or biology. As an example, the electrokinetic separation of pollutants is proposed in the present study.  相似文献

NiZnS electrode has been investigated for use in oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline media. Nickel mesh electrode was coated with the ternary composition of NiZnS by four methods, viz., direct current electrodeposition, pulse electrodeposition, sonoassisted direct current electrodeposition and sonoassisted pulse electrodeposition. The oxygen evolution studies carried out using these electrodes resulted in higher current density for the electrode prepared by sonoassisted pulse electrodeposition compared to those prepared by other methods. Effect of plating current density, pulse duty cycle and temperature on the electrochemical parameters of the alloy coating has been studied. Surface morphologies of the various coating were studied using scanning electron microscopy. Long-term stability of the electrodes prepared was studied in alkaline medium. Exchange current density (j o) was found to increase with the increase in temperature and was the highest for sonoassisted pulse electrodeposited electrode.  相似文献

Proton NMR spectra of perchloric acid extracts of methyl cholantherene induced tumors grown in rats have been analyzed and compared with the normal and the treated tumor tissue samples. Well-resolved resonances from numerous low-molecular weight compounds including various amino acids, nucleotides, choline, creatine, phosphocreatine etc. were observed and assigned using pH titration, 2D NMR and by comparison with the spectra of model compounds. Significant differences were noticed in the spectra of the tumor and the normal tissue samples. Ratios of metabolite levels were calculated for the normal, tumor and treated tumor tissues which are shown as good markers to assess the state of the tumor and their response to treatment.  相似文献

Novel 2D and 3D pulse sequences producing images through the phase encoding of intermolecular multiple quantum coherences (i-MQCs) are presented. The signal acquired with these sequences is free from intermolecular zero quantum coherences (i-ZQCs) which are not phase encoded and additional phase cycling eliminates artifacts. Phase encoding during the n-quantum evolution period provides n times the resolution expected from equivalent phase encoding of the reconverted single quantum coherences. These sequences have potential applications for producing i-MQC images of biological tissues as well as nonbiological materials with substantial amounts of water.  相似文献

Foot dorsi and plantar flexion affects the pennation angle of skeletal muscle fibers and changes the fiber direction with respect to the main magnetic field, thereby affecting MR spectrum of the muscle. In order to analyze the effect that foot flexion has on the MR spectrum, tibialis anterior (TA) and soleus muscles were studied in humans and rats. Localized MRS was performed at different foot angles in clinical and pre-clinical settings using a 3 T MRI/MRS GE Excite HD and 7 T Bruker Clinscan scanner, respectively. In this study we show the effect of foot angle variation on total Creatine (tCr) resonance of 1H spectrum at 3.03 and 3.93 ppm for TA and soleus muscles. In addition to this, we observe a 4-line splitting pattern for methylene resonance of tCr in the rat TA spectrum for a specific foot angle. This observation is attributed to the individual splitting of creatine and phosphocreatine of the tCr signal. Novel hydrogel application is demonstrated and used to support our in vivo observations and for the first time splitting of individual resonances of Cr and PCr has been shown in an in vitro set-up.  相似文献

A green synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles (FeNPs) was developed using Murraya koenigii leaf extract as reducing and stabilizing agent. UV–vis spectra show that the absorption band centred at a wavelength of 277 nm which corresponds to the surface plasmon resonances of synthesized FeNPs. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy spectrum exhibits that the characteristic band at 580 cm?1 is assigned to Fe–O of γ-Fe2O3. Transmission electron microscopy image confirms that the spherical with irregular shaped aggregates and average size of nanoparticles was found to be ~59 nm. The effect of synthesized FeNPs on fermentative hydrogen production was evaluated from glucose by Clostridium acetobutylicum NCIM 2337. The hydrogen yield in control experiment was obtained as 1.74?±?0.08 mol H2/mol glucose whereas the highest hydrogen yield in FeNPs supplemented experiment was achieved as 2.33?±?0.09 mol H2/mol glucose at 175 mg/L of FeNPs. In addition, the hydrogen content and hydrogen production rate were also increased from 34?±?0.8 to 52?±?0.8 % and 23 to 25.3 mL/h, respectively. The effect of FeNPs was compared with supplementation of FeSO4 on fermentative process. The supplementation of FeNPs enhanced the hydrogen production in comparison with control and FeSO4. The supplementation of FeNPs led to the change of the metabolic pathway towards high hydrogen production due to the enhancement of ferredoxin activity. The fermentation type was shifted from butyrate to acetate/butyrate fermentation type at the addition of FeNPs.  相似文献
