The slab band quantum computational approach in the Vienna ab initio simulation package (VASP) is used to calculate the adsorption energies of reactants, reaction intermediates, and products in O2 reduction and in water oxidation in acid on three crystallographic surfaces of pentlandite structure Co9S8. Reversible potentials for the reaction steps involving electron and proton transfer are determined by using the energies in a linear Gibbs free energy relationship. On the basis of these results, we find that the partially OH-covered (202) surface is active toward O2 reduction and should have overpotential behavior similar to that observed for platinum electrodes. One structure in the predicted four-electron reduction mechanism is novel: S2- provides an adsorption site for O following O-O bond scission, which, unlike the case of platinum electrodes, takes place prior to the first reduction step.  相似文献

In this work, mesostructured silica nanoparticles (MSN(AP)) with high adsorptivity were prepared by a modification with 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) as a pore expander. The performance of the MSN(AP) was tested by the adsorption of MB in a batch system under varying pH (2-11), adsorbent dosage (0.1-0.5gL(-1)), and initial MB concentration (5-60mgL(-1)). The best conditions were achieved at pH 7 when using 0.1gL(-1) MSN(AP) and 60mgL(-1)MB to give a maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 500.1mgg(-1) at 303K. The equilibrium data were evaluated using the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Harkins-Jura isotherms and fit well to the Freundlich isotherm model. The adsorption kinetics was best described by the pseudo-second order model. The results indicate the potential for a new use of mesostructured materials as an effective adsorbent for MB.  相似文献

In this short communication, a misconception about the maximum potential a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) cathode experiences due to the formation of fuel/air boundary at the anode during startup/shutdown is clarified. It is shown, conceptually, that the maximum potential experienced by a cathode in PEMFC under such condition is about twice the potential observed when one connects a driving fuel cell to a driven cell (electrolyzer), both of which having the same physical characteristics and operating under the same conditions.

Assuming the Riemann Hypothesis, Montgomery showed by meansof his pair correlation method that at least two-thirds of thezeros of Riemann's zeta-function are simple. Later he and Taylorimproved this to 67.25 percent and, more recently, Cheer andGoldston increased the percentage to 67.2753. Here we proveby a new method that if the Riemann and Generalized LindelöofHypotheses hold, then at least 70.3704 percent of the zerosare simple and at least 84.5679 percent are distinct.
