Phase rotation scheme of laser-produced ions for reduction of the energy spread

In order to widely spread out particle beams utilized in cancer therapy, laser-produced ions are developed as the injection beam for an ion synchrotron dedicated for cancer therapy. Such a laser ion source is expected to contribute largely to the realization of compactness of the size and low cost of the cancer therapy accelerator. The energy spectrum of the laser-produced ions, however, has no peak, but their intensities decrease exponentially according to the increase of the energy. For the purpose of modifying such a situation, we have proposed a scheme to rotate the beam in the longitudinal phase space with the use of the RF electric field, which is phase-adjusted with the pulse laser. We aim for a reduction of the energy spread of ± 5% selected by an energy analyzer and slits to ±1% by such phase rotation. For this purpose, a quarter wavelength resonator with two gaps with the same resonant frequency as the source laser has already been fabricated, together with its RF power source. The above phase rotation system and its recent experimental realization are presented.

In Situ Processing of Nano Crystalline Oxide Particles/Polymer Hybrid

Nano sized crystalline particles/polymer hybrids were synthesized form designed metal-organic precursors. The newly developed method is composed of the synthesis of organic matrix by polymerization and the in situ nucleation and growth of crystalline oxide particles in the organic matrix below 100°C. The design of metal-organic precursor modified with polymerizable ligand and the selection of reaction conditions does influence the size and crystallinity of ceramic particles in organic matrix. The nano-sized magnetic particle/polymer hybrid exhibits the interesting feature of superparamagnetism and quantum size effect. The crystalline particles of BaTiO₃/, PbTiO₃/, and KNbO₃/polymer hybrids behave to be dielectric and show the typical electro-rheological behavior.     

Enantioselective reduction of ketones with optically active 2,2′-diamino-6,6′-dimethylbiphenyl-lithium aluminum hydride complex

Enantioselective reductions of prociral ketones with chiral hydride reagent prepared from optically active 2,2′-diamino-6,6′-dimethylbiphenyl and lithium aluminum hydride were accomplished in O.Y. more than 50%.     

Structure-activity study of intact porcine motilin

Biologically important sites on intact porcine motilin (pMTL) were explored using its partial peptides. The partial peptides were synthesized using Fmoc (9-fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl) solid phase methodology, and tested for the binding activity to motilin receptor and the smooth muscle contractile activity. The results were as follows: important residues for the contractile activity were found to be Phe1, Ile4, and Tyr7, and an open space existed beyond the N-terminus between motilin and its receptor. On the model of interaction between motilin and motilin receptor evolved from these results, the three points of interaction, due to Phe1, Ile4, and Tyr7, and the presence of an open space were expected. The motilin agonist and antagonist, designed on this model, will help the inquiry into motilin associated diseases.     

Processing and characterization of Pb(Mg,Nb)O3-PbTiO3 thin films from metal alkoxide-derived gels

The sol-gel processing is one of promising methods to fabricate well-derived integrated thin films at relatively low temperature. Ferroelectric niobates films do afford the possibilities for adding the values by the hybridization with semiconductor and/or electro-optic systems. The molecular level designing of the precursor solution was stressed as well as the control of key processing factors. The advantages of this sol-gel have been extended to prepare the ferroelectric Pb(Mg, Nb)O₃-PbTiO₃ solid solution films integrated on Si wafers. The crystallization of the films with desired crystal structure could be promoted by the controlled partial hydrolysis of designed alkoxide solution in the intermediate state and the pre-heated treatment of alkoxide-derived films in flow of water vapor and oxygen gas mixture.     

High enantioselectivity in rhodium-catalyzed allylic alkylation of 1-substituted 2-propenyl acetates

[reaction: see text] Rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation of 1-substituted 2-propenyl acetates with dimethyl malonate proceeded with high enantioselectivity in the presence of cesium carbonate as a base and a rhodium catalyst generated from Rh(dpm)(C(2)H(4))(2) (dpm = dipivaloylmethanato) and a chiral phosphino-oxazoline whose basic skeleton is axially chiral binaphthyl to give branch alkylation products in greater than 90% ee.     

Palladium-catalyzed regio- and diastereo-selective allylic alkylation using 2-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid: construction of vicinal quaternary and tertiary carbon centers

The palladium-catalyzed regio- and diastereo-selective allylic alkylation of allyl acetates with carbon nucleophiles occurred. The stereochemistry was highly controlled by the palladium catalyst with 2-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid as the ligand, and vicinal quaternary and tertiary carbon centers were constructed.     

Oxygenation of Trimethylsilylallenes Readily Obtainable from Organoboranes. Syntheses of 1-Trimethylsilyl-1-alkyn-3-ones and 1-Trimethylsilyl-1-alkyn-3-ols

Abstract

Recently we have reported that the reaction of sodium methoxide with ate-complexes (1) readily prepared from trimethyl-silylpropargyl phenyl ether and organoboranes gives trimethyl-silylallenes (2) selectively (eq. 1).¹ In an attempt to find a new synthetic application of such silylallenes (2), the oxidation of 2 was examined. Although the usual oxidants such as m-chloro-perbenzoic acid were found to be unsuitable for the oxidation of the silylallenes, it was discovered that 2 was autoxidized at room temperature to propargylic hydroperoxide (3) (eq. 2). For example, the acidified starch-iodine test² strongly suggested the presence of the organic hydroperoxide in the reaction mixture obtained from 1,2-heptadienyltrimethylsilane (2, R=Bu) and oxygen. The hydroperoxide (3, R=Bu) was isolated in a 40% yield by distillation, 45–48 [ddot]C/0.1 mmHg. In the infrared spectrum, the OH stretching frequency appears at 3430 cm^?1 and the C°C at 2180 cm,^?1     

Iridium-catalyzed allylic alkylation of monosubstituted allylic acetates with azlactone, and separation of diastereoisomers by sequential aza-Cope rearrangement

The iridium-catalyzed allylic alkylation with azlactone and sequential aza-Cope rearrangement was demonstrated. The sequential reaction was effective in separating of diastereoisomers and afforded a diastereomerically pure azlactone derivative and oxazolinone derivative.
