Convergence of solutions for the fractional Cahn–Hilliard system

This paper deals with the Cauchy–Dirichlet problem for the fractional Cahn–Hilliard equation. The main results consist of global (in time) existence of weak solutions, characterization of parabolic smoothing effects (implying under proper condition eventual boundedness of trajectories), and convergence of each solution to a (single) equilibrium. In particular, to prove the convergence result, a variant of the so-called ?ojasiewicz–Simon inequality is provided for the fractional Dirichlet Laplacian and (possibly) non-analytic (but $C^1$) nonlinearities.     

UV‐ignited frontal polymerization of an epoxy resin

By combining frontal polymerization and radical‐induced cationic polymerization, it was possible to cure thick samples of an epoxy monomer bleached by UV light. The effect of the relative amounts of cationic photoinitiator and radical initiator was thoroughly investigated and was related to the front's velocity and its maximum temperature. The materials obtained were characterized by quantitative conversion also in the deeper layers, not reached by UV light. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. On the Essential Self-Adjointness of Wick Powers of Relativistic Fields and of Fields Unitary Equivalent to Random Fields

Global solution to a phase transition model based on a microforce balance

Our aim in this article is to prove the existence and the uniqueness of a global solution to a nonisothermal Ginzburg-Landau (Allen-Cahn) system. This system is obtained by considering, in addition to the fundamental laws of thermodynamics, a balance law for internal microforces proposed by M. Gurtin.     

Numerical analysis of roughness effect on microtube heat transfer

Roughness effect on the heat transfer and pressure loss performances of microscale tubes and channels are investigated through a finite element CFD code. Surface roughness is explicitly modelled through a set of random generated peaks along the ideal smooth surface. Different peak shapes and distributions are considered; geometrical parameters are representative of tubes in the diameter range from 50 to 150 μm. The use of a fine enough mesh allows the direct computation of tube performances under the assumption of incompressible fully developed flow. As a result, a significant increase in Poiseuille number is detected for all of the configurations considered, while the effect of roughness on heat transfer rate is smaller and highly dependent on the tube shape.     

Synthesis and cationic photopolymerization of new fluorinated,polyfunctional propenyl ether oligomers

New fluorinated, polyfunctional propenyl ether functionalized resins were synthesized, and their behavior in cationic photopolymerization was investigated. The photopolymerization proceeded efficiently with a high double‐bond conversion (>90%), giving rise to UV‐cured coatings characterized by low glass‐transition temperatures (?33 °C ≤ glass‐transition temperature ≤ ?15 °C) and hydrophobic surface properties. A fluorinated additive was also employed as a reactive additive in the cationic photopolymerization of trimethylolpropane tripropenyl ether, increasing the double‐bond conversion, polymer network flexibility, thermal stability, and surface hydrophobicity. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
