1,3-dihalo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin/NaNO2 as an efficient heterogeneous system for the N-nitrosation of N,N-dialkylamines under mild conditions

A combination of 1,3-dihalo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (X = Br, Cl) and sodium nitrite in the presence of wet SiO₂ was used as an effective nitrosating agent for the nitrosation of N,N-dialkyl amines to their corresponding nitroso derivatives under mild and heterogeneous conditions in good to excellent yields.     

Volatile constituents of flowers and leaves of Anthemis hyalina

The chemical composition of the essential oils of the flowers and leaves of Anthemis hyalina were analyzed by GC and GC-MS for the first time. The oils were found to contain seventy-two components. cis-Chrysanthenyl acetate (14.9% and 17.8%), camphor (11.6% and 1.7%), terpinen-4-ol (8.3% and 1.2%), germacrene-D (5.1% and 2.1%), β-caryophyllene (4.1% and 5.4%), myrcene (3.6% and 16.9%), bicyclogermacrene (3.5% and 0.9%), α-pinene (2.3% and 4.1%), cis-β-ocimene (2.1% and 4.3%) and isospathulenol (0.4% and 4.3%) were found to be the major constituents of the oils of flowers and leaves respectively. Synthesis of 2-substituted benzimidazoles and bis-benzimidazoles by microwave in the presence of alumina-methanesulfonic acid

A microwave-assisted method for the synthesis of 2-substituted benzimidazoles in the presence of alumina-methanesulfonic acid (AMA) is reported. In addition, by this method some new bis-benzimidazoles from the direct reaction of phenylenediamine and dicarboxylic acid under microwave irradiation in good to excellent yields are described.     

Grignard-Addition an Pyridin-N-oxid

Addition of phenyl-, alkyl-, alkenyl- and alkinyl-Grignard reagents to pyridine-N-oxide in THF leads to 5-substituted (2Z, 4E)-pentadien-aldoximes 6 having (E) (syn)-configuration of the C, N-double bond. The unsaturated oximes are shown to arise through an electrocyclic ring opening reaction from the primary Grignard adducts 5 . These can be trapped by protonation at low temperature.

A mild conversion of arylboronic acids and their pinacolyl boronate esters into phenols using hydroxylamine

Hydroxylamine was found to be a mild reagent for conversion of arylboronic acids and their pinacolyl boronate esters into phenols. This procedure works on most arylboronic acids at room temperature, yielding phenols in moderate to good yields, and efficiently on arylboronates also yielding phenols in good yields.     

Chemical Constituents of the Essential Oil of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Nepeta oxyodonta</Emphasis>

Water-distilled essential oil from the aerial parts of Nepeta oxyodonta Boiss. was analyzed by GC/MS for the first time. Fifty-eight components were identified. The major components were (E)-caryophyllene (12.6%), spathulenol (8.5%), β-bourbonene (8.1%), germacrene-D (7.4%), α-cadinol (7.3%), germacrene-D-4-ol (6.8%), T-cadinol (5.6%), and caryophyllene oxide (5.3%).__________Published in Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 2, pp. 141–142, March–April, 2005.     

Ru-catalyzed synthesis of substituted phthalides through C–H bond activation and functionalization

Synthesis of substituted phthalides through a ruthenium-catalyzed reaction of phthalic anhydrides with acrylates is described. The reaction proceeds via CH bond activation and leads to the formation of vinylated phthalides through a successive double vinylation accompanied by decarboxylation and annulation reactions.
