The extraction of Al(III) and Zn(II) from an aqueous solution with two water-in-oil microemulsions, one containing di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (DEHPA), was investigated to aid the understanding of the role of the extractant and the metal specific characteristics in the mechanism of microemulsion extraction. The extraction of Al with the DEHPA microemulsion increased by a factor of about 10 with respect to that in the conventional DEHPA system, whereas the extraction of Zn was lower than that in the single DEHPA system. Extraction with the DEHPA-free microemulsion was very low, showing that metal ion solubilization was not important in the mechanism of microemulsion extraction. It is proposed that the effect of the mixed microemulsion on the metal distribution coefficient is the result of the balance between a decrease in the complexation reaction yield due to the interaction between butanol and DEHPA, and the adsorption of the metal complex at the macro- and microinterfaces. The former leads to a decrease in Zn(II) extraction and the latter to Al(III) extraction synergism. Copyright 2000 Academic Press.  相似文献

We provide an experimental test of the universal behavior arising in simulations of the electrophoretic collision of a long DNA molecule with an isolated, thin post. Our experiments take advantage of a robust protocol to embed matrices of circa 100 nm radius ZnO nanowires in a microfluidic channel. The density and height of the nanowires are easily controlled by the seeding and growth conditions. Single-molecule videomicroscopy of λ-DNA electrophoresis in a sparse nanowire array shows that the average holdup time decays exponentially with the impact parameter, in agreement with simulations. Only at the largest electric field studied here does the hooking probability approach that for an infinitesimally thin post.  相似文献

The mechanism and energetics are presented of the dimerization of two adsorbed surface SiH2 groups on the H-terminated Si(0 0 1)-(2 × 1) surface to form Si2H4 species during the initial stages of growth in plasma deposition of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) films. The reactions are observed during classical molecular-dynamics (MD) simulations of a-Si:H film deposition from SiH2 radical precursors impinging on an initially H-terminated Si(0 0 1)-(2 × 1) surface and substrate temperature, T, over the range 500T700 K. The Si2H4 species resulting from the surface SiH2 dimerization reactions undergo surface conformational changes resulting in either a non-rotated (NRD) or a rotated dimer (RD) configuration. The RD configuration is found to be the energetically favorable one. The MD simulation results for the structure of the NRD and RD surface Si2H4 configurations corroborate with ab initio calculations of optimized adsorption configurations of SiH2 radicals on crystalline Si surfaces, as well as results of STM imaging of the thermal decomposition of disilane on Si(0 0 1).  相似文献

Starting with metal dithiocarbamate complexes, we synthesize colloidal Cu(2)ZnSnS(4) (CZTS) nanocrystals with diameters ranging from 2 to 7 nm. Structural and Raman scattering data confirm that CZTS is obtained rather than other possible material phases. The optical absorption spectra of nanocrystals with diameters less than 3 nm show a shift to higher energy due to quantum confinement.  相似文献

Cuprous oxide (Cu2O) thin films were grown epitaxially on c-axis-oriented polycrystalline zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films by low-pressure metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) from Copper(II) hexafluoroacetylacetonate [Cu(C5HF6O2)2] at various substrate temperatures, between 250 and 400 °C, and pressures, between 0.6 and 2.1 Torr. Polycrystalline thin films of Cu2O grow as single phase with [1 1 0] axis aligned perpendicular to the ZnO surface and with in-plane rotational alignment due to (2 2 0)Cu2O(0 0 0 2)ZnO; [0 0 1]Cu2O[1 2¯ 1 0]ZnO epitaxy. The resulting interface is rectifying and may be suitable for oxide-based p–n junction solar cells or diodes.  相似文献

An important concern in the deposition of thin hydrogenated amorphous silicon () films is to obtain smooth surfaces. Herein, we combine molecular-dynamics simulations with first-principles density functional theory calculations to elucidate the smoothening mechanism of plasma deposited thin films. We show that the deposition precursor may diffuse rapidly on the film surface via overcoordinated surface Si atoms and incorporate into the film preferentially in surface valleys, with activation barriers for incorporation dependent on the local surface morphology. Experimental data on smoothening and precursor diffusion are accounted for.  相似文献

Background

The emergence of multi- and extensively-drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains has created an urgent need for new agents to treat tuberculosis (TB). The enzymes of shikimate pathway are attractive targets to the development of antitubercular agents because it is essential for M. tuberculosis and is absent from humans. Chorismate synthase (CS) is the seventh enzyme of this route and catalyzes the NADH- and FMN-dependent synthesis of chorismate, a precursor of aromatic amino acids, naphthoquinones, menaquinones, and mycobactins. Although the M. tuberculosis Rv2540c (aroF) sequence has been annotated to encode a chorismate synthase, there has been no report on its correct assignment and functional characterization of its protein product.

Results

In the present work, we describe DNA amplification of aroF-encoded CS from M. tuberculosis (Mt CS), molecular cloning, protein expression, and purification to homogeneity. N-terminal amino acid sequencing, mass spectrometry and gel filtration chromatography were employed to determine identity, subunit molecular weight and oligomeric state in solution of homogeneous recombinant Mt CS. The bifunctionality of Mt CS was determined by measurements of both chorismate synthase and NADH:FMN oxidoreductase activities. The flavin reductase activity was characterized, showing the existence of a complex between FMNox and Mt CS. FMNox and NADH equilibrium binding was measured. Primary deuterium, solvent and multiple kinetic isotope effects are described and suggest distinct steps for hydride and proton transfers, with the former being more rate-limiting.

Conclusion

This is the first report showing that a bacterial CS is bifunctional. Primary deuterium kinetic isotope effects show that C4-proS hydrogen is being transferred during the reduction of FMNox by NADH and that hydride transfer contributes significantly to the rate-limiting step of FMN reduction reaction. Solvent kinetic isotope effects and proton inventory results indicate that proton transfer from solvent partially limits the rate of FMN reduction and that a single proton transfer gives rise to the observed solvent isotope effect. Multiple isotope effects suggest a stepwise mechanism for the reduction of FMNox. The results on enzyme kinetics described here provide evidence for the mode of action of Mt CS and should thus pave the way for the rational design of antitubercular agents.
