A detailed microscopic equation is derived, governing the size distribution of crystallites in supersaturated solutions. Comparing the results of a numerical analysis of this equation with a similar analysis of the more approximate Lifshitz-Slyozov equation and of its approximate analytic solution yields differences that may be significant.
