2,4,6-Trichloro-1,3,5-triazine catalyzed synthesis of thiiranes from oxiranes under solvent-free and mild conditions

A simple, mild and efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of thiiranes from epoxides using a catalytic amount of 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine under solvent-free conditions.     

Sodium Tetrafluoroborate as a New and Highly Efficient Catalyst for One‐Pot Synthesis of 3,4‐Dihydropyrimidin‐2(1H)‐Ones and Thiones

Sodium tetrafluoroborate (NaBF₄) is found to catalyze the three component condensation of an aldehyde, 1,3‐dicarbonyl compound and urea or thiourea to afford the corresponding 3,4‐dihydropyrimidin‐2(1 H)‐ones and thiones in high yields. This method is very useful for the synthesis of a wide range of 3,4‐dihydropyrimidin‐2(1 H)‐ones and thiones from aromatic, heterocyclic, α,β‐unsaturated aldehydes and aliphatic aldehydes.     

An efficient method for the synthesis of acylals from aldehydes using silica-supported perchloric acid (HClO4-SiO2)

The synthesis of acylals from structurally diverse aldehydes has been performed in excellent yields under solvent-free conditions using HClO₄-SiO₂ as a mild, convenient, reusable, and heterogeneous catalyst. The procedure is operationally simple, environmentally benign and has the advantage of enhanced atom utilization. Furthermore, the catalyst can be recovered simply and reused efficiently a number of times without appreciable loss of activity.     

Synthesis and characterization of poly(4-vinyl,2′-carboxybensophenone)

The synthesis and characterization of poly(4-vinyl,2′-carboxybenzophenone) ion exchange resin is described. This resin displays a remarkably high capacity for Cu²⁺. Control of pH permits selective adsorption and estimation of Fe³⁺. This ion-exchanger is quite stable to loading acid washing cycles. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

2,4,6-Tris(4-iodophenoxy)-1,3,5-triazine as a new recyclable “iodoarene” for in situ generation of hypervalent iodine(III) reagent for α-tosyloxylation of enolizable ketones

The synthesis of 2,4,6-tris[(4-iodo)phenoxy)]-1,3,5-triazine 6, as a new recyclable nonpolymeric analogue of iodobenzene is achieved using the reaction of 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine with 4-iodophenol in the presence of KOH. The application of 6 as a recyclable ‘iodoarene’ is demonstrated for α-tosyloxylation of enolizable ketones via in situ generation of hypervalent iodine(III) species using PTSA and MCPBA as the terminal oxidant. The recyclability of the reagent 6 was possible owing to the facile recovery and reuse from the reaction mixture due to its near insolubility in methanol.     

Synthesis of Polysubstituted Quinolines Using Cyanuric Chloride as a Catalyst Under Aqueous Conditions

A mild, eco‐friendly and efficient route for the synthesis of quinolines and polycyclic quinolines via Friedländer annulation using cyanuric chloride as a catalyst under aqueous conditions is described.     

ZrCl4-mediated regio- and chemoselective Friedel-Crafts acylation of indole

An efficient method for regio- and chemoselective Friedel-Crafts acylation of indole using acyl chlorides in the presence of ZrCl(4) has been discovered. It minimizes/eliminates common competing reactions that occur due to high and multiatom-nucleophilic character of indole. In this method, a wide range of aroyl, heteroaroyl alkenoyl, and alkanoyl chlorides undergo smooth acylation with various indoles without NH protection and afford 3-acylindoles in good to high yields.
