Heterocyclic compounds from 3-(4-phenyl) benzoyl propionic acid

3-(4-Phenyl) benzoyl propionic acid was used as the starting material for the synthesisof furanones (2), pyrrolinones (5), pyridazinones (7), benzoxazinones (8) and quinazolinones (9-11). The behaviour of the derivatives of furanones and benzoxazinones toward different nucleophiles is reported.     

Influence of vanadium doping on the behavior of YBa_2Cu_3O_7-y

YBa2Cu3-xVxO7-y(x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6) superconductors have been prepared. X-ray diffraction shows that the system remains orthorhombic for all compositions studied, but for x > 0.4 V2O5 was detected as an impurity phase. Substitution of V5+ for Cu2+ occurs in the Cu(2) sites on the Cu(2)-O planes. The introduction of the high valence element, vanadium, produces the extra free-electrons. These electrons recombine with the positive carrier of the system. It makes depression of the mobility and the Hall number of YBa2Cu3-xVxO7-v and also results in a depression of TC.     

CHEMILUMINESCENCE AND FLUORESCENCE OF THE EUROPIUM IONS-ADENINE NUCLEOTIDES SYSTEM AND ITS POSSIBLE BIOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Abstract— Chemiluminescence of the Eu(II)/Eu(III)-adenine nucleotide-H₂O₂ system and fluorescence of the Eu(III)-adenosine triphosphate system have been investigated. The spectral distribution of the chemiluminescence emission has shown an occurrence of three main bands (Λ=470–480,590–620 and ca. 700 nm). The energy transfer process from the adenosine triphosphate molecules to the Eu(III) ions has been observed in the fluorescence spectrum. The examined chemiluminescence and fluorescence spectra show that these both kinds of emission originate from the ⁵ D _***τ⁷F_*** ( n =1–4) transitions in the Eu(III) ions.     

Comparison of direct and indirect methods of measuring the precursors of beta-methyl-gamma-octalactone and their application to the analysis of Sessile oak wood

A new indirect method for measuring the level of beta-methyl-gamma-octalactone precursors in oak wood by GC-MS is described. This level is calculated from the difference between the amount of free beta-methyl-gamma-octalactone and the amount formed after hydrolysis and lactonization. It is compared to the level of a precursor of cis-beta-methyl-gamma-octalactone, a 6'-O-gallate derivative of (3S,4S)-4-[3-beta-glucopyranosyloxy-3-methyloctanoic acid, determined directly by HPLC. These two methods are applied to 12 powdered samples of Sessile oak wood and the results show that the 6'-O-gallate derivative of (3S,4S)-4-beta-D-glucopyranosyloxy-3-methyloctanoic acid is by far the most abundant precursor of beta-methyl-gamma-octalactone in this wood.     

A Colorimetric Sensor Array for the Detection of the Date‐Rape Drug γ‐Hydroxybutyric Acid (GHB): A Supramolecular Approach

γ‐Hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), a colourless, odourless and tasteless chemical, has become one of the most dangerous illicit drugs of abuse today. At low doses, this drug is a central nervous system depressant that reduces anxiety and produces euphoria and relaxation, sedating the recipient. There is an urgent need for simple, easy‐to‐use sensors for GHB in solution. Here, we present a colorimetric sensor array based on supramolecular host–guest complexes of fluorescent dyes with organic capsules (cucurbiturils) for the detection of GHB.     

An adaptive control scheme for a continuous plant under Known output delay, unmodelled dynamics, and input saturation

This paper deals with robustness of adaptive control of continuoussystems subject to known output delay, input saturation, unmodelledlinear dynamics, and bounded disturbances. A simple gradient-typealgorithm with a relative deadzone is used. The relative deadzoneis built with an estimated contribution of the unmodelled dynamicsto the system output. The basic tool used for stability androbustness analysis is Gronwall's lemma.     

Synthesis and photophysical investigation of squaraine rotaxanes by "clicked capping"

Pseudorotaxane complexes of squaraine dyes and tetralactam macrocycles are converted into permanently interlocked rotaxane structures using copper-catalyzed and copper-free cycloaddition reactions with bulky stopper groups. The photophysical properties of the encapsulated squaraine depend on the structure of the macrocycle. In one case, squaraine rotaxanes are produced in near-quantitative yields and with intense near-IR fluorescence. In another case, squaraine fluorescence is greatly diminished upon macrocyclic encapsulation but the signal can be restored by dye displacement with anions.

Quantitative determination of beta-ionone in red wines and grapes of Bordeaux using a stable isotope dilution assay.

Quantitative analysis of beta-ionone has been developed, using a stable isotope dilution assay. This was applied to red wines from different cultivars and regions. The Burgundy Pinot noir wines exhibited the highest levels of beta-ionone. The variation in the levels of beta-ionone in grape samples and in their corresponding wines, of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet franc from Bordeaux regions was monitored at four different stages towards the end of maturation: the levels of beta-ionone were almost similar, exhibiting only a slight decrease during maturation. beta-Ionone occurred in all the grapes and wines samples analysed at levels higher than, or close to its odour threshold which was determined in a model wine solution and was found to be of 90 ng l-1. In a previously supplemented model wine solution with beta-ionone (250 ng l-1), the odour threshold was found to be of 980 ng l-1 (total levels).
