Mass and isotopic concentrations of water-insoluble refractory carbon in total suspended particulates at Mt.Waliguan Observatory(China)

Mass concentration and isotopic values δ¹³C and ¹⁴C are presented for the water-insoluble refractory carbon（WIRC） component of total suspended particulates（TSP）,collected weekly during 2003,as well as from October 2005 to May 2006 at the WMO-GAW Mt.Waliguan（WLG） site.The overall average WIRC mass concentration was（1183±120）ng/m³（n = 79）,while seasonal averages were 2081 ±1707（spring）,454±205（summer）,650±411（autumn）,and 1019±703（winter） ng/m3.Seasonal variations in WIRC mass concentrations were consistent with black carbon measurements from an aethalometer,although WIRC concentrations were typically higher,especially in winter and spring.The δ¹³C PDB value（-25.3 ± 0.8）%.determined for WIRC suggests that its sources are C₃ biomass or fossil fuel combustion.No seasonal change in δ¹³C PDB was evident.The average percent Modern Carbon（pMC） for ¹⁴C in WIRC for winter and spring was（67.2 ± 7.7）%（n = 29）.Lower pMC values were associated with air masses transported from the area east of WLG,while higher pMC values were associated with air masses from the Tibetan Plateau,southwest of WLG.Elevated pMC values with abnormally high mass concentrations of TSP and WIRC were measured during a dust storm event.     

Microporous Hypercross-linked Conjugated Quinonoid Chromophores of Anthracene: Novel Polymers for CO2 Adsorption

Microporous hypercross-linked conjugated quinonoid chromophores represent a novel class of amorphous polymers, synthesized by the reaction of anthracene with dimethoxy methane in the presence of FeCl3 catalyst. Their N2 adsorption isotherms confirm their microporous nature. Diffuse reflectance UV-Visible(DRS UV-Vis) spectroscopy confirms their matrix built with the conjugated quinonoids by their broad light absorption characteristics extending from 1000 nm to 200 nm with the absorbance maximum close to 400 nm. The catalyst cross-linked anthracene with ―CH2― bridges and subsequently dehydrogenating them to form quinonoids. Their Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectra showed their characteristic quinonoid vibrations between 1600 and 1700 cm-1. The synthesis of polymers was carried out at 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 ℃, but the quinonoid content of the polymer obtained at 80 ℃ was higher than that of the others. Their scanning electron microscopy(SEM) images showed microspheres of 1 to 5 μm size built with tiny particles. Their surfaces were not smooth. The polymer synthesized at 80 ℃ showed 5.1 wt% CO2 sorption at 25 ℃ and 0.1 MPa, but when it was recross-linked, the CO2 sorption increased to 8 wt%. Hence, hypercross-linked conjugated quinonoid chromophores of anthracene are good for sorption of CO2.

Integral closure of a quartic extension

Let R be a Noetherian unique factorization domain such that 2 and 3 are units,and let A=R[α]be a quartic extension over R by adding a rootαof an irreducible quartic polynomial p(z)=z4+az2+bz+c over R.We will compute explicitly the integral closure of A in its fraction field,which is based on a proper factorization of the coefficients and the algebraic invariants of p(z).In fact,we get the factorization by resolving the singularities of a plane curve defined by z4+a(x)z2+b(x)z+c(x)=0.The integral closure is expressed as a syzygy module and the syzygy equations are given explicitly.We compute also the ramifications of the integral closure over R.     

地磁对γγ方向角关联测量的影响

在γ-γ角关联实验中,发现能谱中全能峰的位置随探头方位角的改变而变化。本文通过不同的实验,验证了地磁对能谱测量的干扰以及对γ-γ方向角关联测量的影响。发现地磁对测量的影响主要来自光电倍增管,地磁方向与光电倍增管中电子飞行方向的夹角的改变,引起光电倍增管增益变化,最终给γ-γ方向角关联测量带来较大的影响。文中总结了如何减小地磁影响,改进γ-γ方向角关联实验测量的方法。

Evaluation of the performance of a soft X-ray charger for the bipolar charging of nanoparticles

The use of soft X-rays in a neutrahzer represents an alternative technique that could replace conventional radioactive sources.In this study,we evaluated the charging characteristics of a soft X-ray aerosol neutralize!".In addition,the results from the evaluation of the soft X-ray charger were compared with results obtained using a neutralizer incorporating an ²⁴¹Am radioactive source.The tandem differential mobility analyzer technique was used previously to determine the size-dependent positive,negative,and neutral charge fractions of a soft X-ray neutralizer.This technique was used to show that the neutral fractions obtained using the soft X-ray charger agreed well with the predictions of bipolar diffusion charging theory,and that the soft X-ray charger could be used as a neutralizer for a scanning mobility particle sizer system.
