Digital nets and sequences constructed over finite rings and their application to quasi-Monte Carlo integration

A detailed study of digital (t, m, s)-nets and digital (T,s)-sequences constructed over finite rings is carried out. We present general existence theorems for digital nets and sequences and also explicit constructions. Special attention is devoted to the case where the finite ring is a residue class ring of the integers. This study is motivated by the problem of numerical integration of multivariate Walsh series by quasi-Monte Carlo methods, for which we also provide a general error bound.The third author was supported by the CEI Project PACT, WP5.1.2.1.3.     

Associated families of pluriharmonic maps¶and isotropy

Like minimal surface immersions in 3-space, pluriharmonic maps into symmetric spaces allow a one-parameter family of isometric deformations rotating the differential (“associated family”); in fact, pluriharmonic maps are characterized by this property. We give a geometric proof of this fact and investigate the “isotropic” case where this family is constant. It turns out that isotropic pluriharmonic maps arise from certain holomorphic maps into flag manifolds. Further, we also consider higher dimensional generalizations of constant mean curvature surfaces which are K?hler submanifolds with parallel (1,1) part of their soecond fundamental form; under certain restrictions there are also characterized by having some kind of (“weak”) associated family. Examples where this family is constant arise from extrinsic K?hler symmetric spaces. Received: 8 July 1997     

Motivic integral of K3 surfaces over a non-archimedean field

We prove a formula expressing the motivic integral (Loeser and Sebag, 2003) [34] of a K3 surface over C((t)) with semi-stable reduction in terms of the associated limit mixed Hodge structure. Secondly, for every smooth variety over a complete discrete valuation field we define an analogue of the monodromy pairing, constructed by Grothendieck in the case of abelian varieties, and prove that our monodromy pairing is a birational invariant of the variety. Finally, we propose a conjectural formula for the motivic integral of maximally degenerate K3 surfaces over an arbitrary complete discrete valuation field and prove this conjecture for Kummer K3 surfaces.     

Modulation spaces, Wiener amalgam spaces, and Brownian motions

We study the local-in-time regularity of the Brownian motion with respect to localized variants of modulation spaces and Wiener amalgam spaces . We show that the periodic Brownian motion belongs locally in time to and for (s−1)q<−1, and the condition on the indices is optimal. Moreover, with the Wiener measure μ on T, we show that and form abstract Wiener spaces for the same range of indices, yielding large deviation estimates. We also establish the endpoint regularity of the periodic Brownian motion with respect to a Besov-type space . Specifically, we prove that the Brownian motion belongs to for (s−1)p=−1, and it obeys a large deviation estimate. Finally, we revisit the regularity of Brownian motion on usual local Besov spaces , and indicate the endpoint large deviation estimates.

A complete determination of Rabinowitsch polynomials

Let m be a positive integer and fm(x) be a polynomial of the form fm(x)=x²+x−m. We call a polynomial fm(x) a Rabinowitsch polynomial if for and consecutive integers x=x₀,x₀+1,…,x₀+s−1, |fm(x)| is either 1 or prime. In this paper, we show that there are exactly 14 Rabinowitsch polynomials fm(x).     

Representability theorems for presheaves of spectra

Suppose that M is a simplicial model category and that F is a contravariant simplicial functor defined on M which takes values in pointed simplicial sets. This note displays conditions on the simplicial model category M and the functor F such that F is representable up to weak equivalence. The conditions on F are homotopy coherent versions of the classical conditions for Brown representability, while M should have the fundamental properties of the stable model structure for presheaves of spectra on a Grothendieck site.
