Cavity-enhanced laser cooling of solid-state materials in a standing-wave cavity

We propose a new method to cool the yb^3＋-doped ZBLANP glass in a standing-wave cavity. There are two advantages of this cavity-enhanced technique： the pumping power is greatly enhanced and the absorption of the cooling material is greatly increased. We introduce the basic principle of the cavity-enhanced laser cooling and discuss the cooling effect of a solid-state material in a cavity. From the theoretical study, it is found that the laser cooling effect is strongly dependent on the reflectivity of the cavity mirrors, the length of the solid material, the surface scattering of the material, and so on. Some optimal parameters for efficient laser cooling are obtained.

Explicit exact solutions for a new generalized Hamiltonian amplitude equation with nonlinear terms of any order

Making use of a proper transformation and a generalized ansatz, we consider a new generalized Hamiltonian amplitude equation with nonlinear terms of any order, iu_x + u_tt + (|u|^p + |u|^2p)u + u_xt = 0. As a result, many explicit exact solutions, which include kink-shaped soliton solutions, bell-shaped soliton solutions, periodic wave solutions, the combined formal solitary wave solutions and rational solutions, are obtained.Received: April 4, 2002

Nonlinear evolution of quantum states in the adiabatic regime

We investigate adiabatic evolution of quantum states as governed by the nonlinear Schr?dinger equation and provide examples of applications with a nonlinear tunneling model for Bose-Einstein condensates. Our analysis not only spells out conditions for adiabatic evolution of eigenstates but also characterizes the motion of noneigenstates which cannot be obtained from the former in the absence of the superposition principle. We find that Aharonov-Anandan phases play the role of classical canonical actions and are conserved in the adiabatic evolution of noneigenstates.     

A Generalized Method and Exact Solutions in Bose-Einstein Condensates in an Expulsive Parabolic Potential

In the paper, a generalized sub-equation method is presented to construct some exact analytical solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations. Making use of the method, we present rich exact analytical solutions of the onedimensional nonlinear Schr(o)dinger equation which describes the dynamics of solitons in Bose-Einstein condensates with time-dependent atomic scattering length in an expulsive parabolic potential. The solutions obtained include not only non-traveling wave and coefficient function's soliton solutions, but also Jacobi elliptic function solutions and Weierstrass elliptic function solutions. Some plots are given to demonstrate the properties of some exact solutions under the Feshbachmanaged nonlinear coefficient and the hyperbolic secant function coefficient.
