Regenerative queueing processes and their qualitative and quantitative analysis

Recently developed methods of qualitative analysis for regenerative processes arising in queueing are presented. These methods are essentially qualitative and use notions such as coupling, probability metrics, etc. They are developed for studying various properties of regenerative models, including convergence rate to a stationary regime, continuity of their characteristics with respect to some parameters and first-occurrence time of an event such as queue overflowing. In spite of their qualitative nature they lead to good quantitative estimates of underlying properties with computer methods available to calculate them.

The class of co-Namioka compact spaces is stable under product

In an earlier paper we have established that the cartesian product of a family of co-Namioka compact spaces is co-Namioka if and only if all finite cartesian products of this family are co-Namioka. The purpose of this note is to show that the product of two co-Namioka compact spaces is always co-Namioka. The class of co-Namioka compact spaces is consequently stable under arbitrary products.

     

The rate of convergence of q-Bernstein polynomials for

In the note, we obtain the estimates for the rate of convergence for a sequence of q-Bernstein polynomials {B_n,q(f)} for 0<q<1 by the modulus of continuity of f, and the estimates are sharp with respect to the order for Lipschitz continuous functions. We also get the exact orders of convergence for a family of functions , and the orders do not depend on α, unlike the classical case.     

Absolutely continuous functions of several variables and diffeomorphisms

In [4], a class of absolutely continuous functions of d-variables, motivated by applications to change of variables in an integral, has been introduced. The main result of this paper states that absolutely continuous functions in the sense of [4] are not stable under diffeomorphisms. We also show an example of a function which is absolutely continuous with respect cubes but not with respect to balls.
