Pressure and compositional dependence of electric conductivity in the (Mg1 − xFex)1 − δO (x = 0.01–0.40) solid-solution

(Mg_1 ? xFe_x)_1 ? δO (x = 0.01–0.43) single crystals (~ 8 mm in diameter) were made by a melt-growth method. Electrical conductivity measurements were carried out as functions of temperature and frequency by a complex impedance method under pressure (~ 43 GPa and ~ 673 K and at 0.1 MPa and ~ 1400 K). Our experimental results show a change in charge transport mechanism in the (Mg_1 ? xFe_x)_1 ? δO solid solution at high temperature. The temperature of inflection point of the slope in Arrhenius plots depend greatly on both composition and extrinsic factors of crystals. The low-temperature conduction mechanism in (Mg_1 ? xFe_x)_1 ? δO solid solution is small polaron. Pressure effect of the electric conductivity was observed and the conductivity increased to 0.5 at log scale of S/m with increasing pressure up to 43.4 GPa. The activation energy was decreased linearly with increasing pressure. Chemical composition and homogeneity of specimen rather than pressure greatly influence the electric conductivity. The activation energy of 2.37(4) eV for the (Mg_0.99Fe_0.01)_1 ? δO solid solution might correspond to a migration enthalpy of O ions through thermally formed defects. It is proposed that a possible dominant electrical conduction mechanism in ferropericlase under the lower mantle conditions, at least in the higher temperature region, is super ionic conduction.     

Synthetic studies on glycosphingolipids from protostomia phyla: synthesis of amphoteric glycolipid analogues from the porcine nematode,Ascaris suum

A novel amphoteric glycosphingolipid, cholinephosphoryl-(-->6)-beta-D-GlcpNAc-(1-->3)-beta-D-Manp-(1-->4)-beta-D-Glcp-(1-->)-Cer, isolated from the porcine parasitic nematode, Ascaris suum, may be expected to be involved in host-parasite interactions. This glycosphingolipid analogue containing octyl residue in place of ceramide was synthesized as follows: The key reaction of this synthetic procedure is the formation of a intramolecular aglycon delivery (IAD) approach for beta-selective mannosylation. Then, a coupling of phosphocholine group at the position C-6' of 16 was attempted using 2-chloro-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphospholane, followed by reaction of the resulting cyclic phosphate intermediate with anhydrous trimethylamine to give 17. Subsequent debenzylation and debenzylidenation afforded target compound (2).     

Quantitative structure-activity relationship study of N-(3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[1,4]thiazine-6-carbonyl)guanidines as potent Na/H exchange inhibitors

We have previously reported that N-(4-isopropyl-2,2-dimethyl-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[1,4]oxazine-6-car bonyl)guanidine (4b) methanesulfonate salt (KB-R9032) is a potent and highly water-soluble Na/H exchange inhibitor. In a series of studies on Na/H exchange inhibitors, we designed and synthesized N-(3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[1,4]thiazine-6-carbonyl)guanidines (5) as more potent inhibitors with high water-solubility. The design strategy for 5 was based on a quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) study, involving the proportional relationship between the biological activity and hydrophobicity of the ring structure of compounds 4. As expected, compounds 5 showed more potent activity than 4. It was found by using the QSAR analysis that 5 were about five-fold more potent than 4. The increase in potency of compounds 5 well agreed with our previous QSAR analysis result. The most potent derivative was the methanesulfonate salt 5d of the 4-isopropyl derivative (IC50=0.0091 microM). And in addition to the in vitro study, 5d showed significant protective activity against a rat acute myocardial infraction model.     

Acceleration effects of 1,5,7‐triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec‐5‐ene with 2‐methylimidazole‐intercalated α‐zirconium phosphate as a latent thermal initiator in the reaction of glycidyl phenyl ether and hexahydro‐4‐methylphthalic anhydride

The catalytic effects of 1,5,7‐Triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec‐5‐ene (TBD) with 2‐methylimidazole‐intercalated α‐zirconium phosphate (α‐ZrP?2MIm) in the reaction of glycidyl phenyl ether (GPE) and hexahydro‐4‐methylphthalic anhydride (MHHPA) were investigated. The reaction did not proceed within 1 h at 60 °C. On increasing the temperature to 100 °C, the conversion reached 93% for 1 h. Without the addition of TBD, the conversion was 67% at 100 °C for 1 h. Under storage conditions at 25 °C for 7 days, the conversion of GPE was only 18%. The curing behavior of 2,2‐bis(4‐glycidyloxyphenyl)propane (DGEBA) and MHHPA in the presence of TBD with α‐ZrP?2MIm was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry. The addition of TBD with α‐ZrP?2MIm as a latent thermal initiator, the storage stability was maintained and the reaction proceeded rapidly under heating conditions. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Photonic Band Effect in Ordered Polystyrene Particle Layers

Abstract

Quasi two-dimensional (2D) photonic band structures have been investigated on ordered polystyrene particle layers by means of polarized transmission spectra for oblique incidence of light. The results are discussed in terms of quasi-2D photonic band effect.     

Syntheses of the metabolites of 1-(2-ethoxyethyl)-2-(hexahydro-4-methyl-1H-1,4-diazepin-1-yl)-1H benzimidazole difumarate (KG-2413) and related compounds

The metabolites of 1-(2-ethoxyethyl)-2-(hexahydro-4-methyl-1H-1,4-diazepin-1-yl)-1H-b enzimidazole difumarate (KG-2413), which has a potent H1-antihistaminic activity, were predicted on the basis of metabolic studies of related compounds and were synthesized to aid in identification of the actual metabolites and for examination of their antihistaminic activity. Among the twelve compounds prepared, nine compounds were actually found as the metabolites of KG-2413 in rat urine. The antihistaminic activities of these metabolites were found to be lower than that of KG-2413.     

Theoretical study of the Smith-Purcell effect involving photonic crystals

The Smith-Purcell radiation spectrum is calculated for the trajectory of a running charge parallel to the surface of a photonic crystal of dielectric spheres. Analysis is given for the dependence of the spectrum on the velocity of the running charge, the distance of the trajectory from the photonic crystal, and on the light absorption of the photonic crystal. It is shown that all the characteristic features of the radiation spectrum are satisfactorily explained by treating a direct light emitted by the charge as an incident light on the photonic crystal.
