In [12], P. Scowcroft and L. van den Dries proved a cell decomposition theorem for p‐adically closed fields. We work here with the notion of P‐minimal fields defined by D. Haskell and D. Macpherson in [6]. We prove that a P‐minimal field K admits cell decomposition if and only if K has definable selection. We discuss minimality conditions for the speed of monotone travelling waves in a sample of smectic C∗ liquid crystal subject to a constant electric field, dealing with both isotropic and anisotropic cases. Such conditions are important in understanding the properties of domain wall switching across a smectic layer, and our focus here is on examining how the presence of anisotropy can affect the speed of this switching. We obtain an estimate of the influence of anisotropy on the minimal speed, sufficient conditions for linear and non‐linear minimal speed selection mechanisms to hold in different parameter regimes, and a characterisation of the boundary separating the linear and non‐linear regimes in parameter space. 相似文献

In this paper we investigate two generalizations of the Pareto minimality concept: infimality and approximate minimality. It is shown that existence conditions for these optimality notions are much weaker and that they allow a more complete characterization via linear and nonlinear scalarization than Pareto minimality. We further study some relations between those optimality structures and apply the results to the image of a vector-valued mapping.The author is indebted to Professor J. In this paper, new classes of generalized convex functions are introduced, extending the concepts of quasi-convexity, pseudoconvexity, and their associate subclasses. Functions belonging to these classes satisfy certain local-global minimum properties. Conversely, it is shown that, under some mild regularity conditions, functions for which the local-global minimum properties hold must belong to one of the classes of functions introduced.Dedicated to R.
