Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) combined with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) for determination of volatile small molecules to evaluate compatibility of antimicrobial peptide PL-5 spray with packaging materials

A simple and efficient method involving microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) combined with GC–MS was established to determine 1,3-di-tert-butylbenzene (DBB), 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol (DBP), 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (DBHBA) for evaluating the compatibility of antimicrobial peptide PL-5 spray with drug-packaging materials. In this study, the antimicrobial peptide PL-5 spray was purified using a Welchrom C18 column, and the high-density polyethylene spray bottle with liquid collection tube was first mixed with absolute ethanol, which would be subjected to MAE for further measurement by GC–MS. Various experimental parameters were systematically optimized, and good linearities were obtained within the range of 0.05–1.00 μg/mL for DBB and DBHBA and 0.50–10.00 μg/mL for DBP, with limits of detection (LODs) of 0.99 ng/mL (DBB), 16.34 ng/mL (DBP), and 1.64 ng/mL (DBHBA). Satisfactory recoveries that ranged from 96.0% to 107.2% were acquired, and the relative standard deviation was ≤ 4.7%. The results showed that the maximum daily usage of DBB, DBP, and DBHBA was 9.859, 163.445, and 16.399 ng, respectively, which was far below the corresponding permitted daily exposure values according to the safety assessment, indicating that the migration of analytes did not bring any potential safety risk. The compatibility between the drug and the packaging materials was favorable.

Piezoelectric/electroluminescent composites for low voltage input flat-panel display devices

In the present work, we report enhanced electro-mechano-optical conversion in piezoelectric/electroluminescent composites, composed of ZnS-type electroluminescence phosphor (doped with Cu, Cl, Mn) placed adjacent to a single-crystal piezoelectric transformer. The effect originates from the combined functions of electroluminescent characteristics and amplified piezoelectric effects. The composites can realize a comparatively low exciting voltage of 2 V rms to start electroluminescence in various materials. Through the naked eye strong green-light emission can be seen under an input voltage of 4.95 V rms. We can easily control the emission brightness by adjusting the driving frequency due to the resonating characteristics of the piezoelectric transformer. Influence of DC bias fields on the linear/nonlinear magnetoelectric effect and the sensitivity in laminate composites

The nonlinear and linear properties in Metglas/piezofiber magnetoelectric composites under DC bias fields (H_bias) have been investigated via a frequency‐conversion technique. It was found that the major noise near the carrier frequency (f_C) is caused by the driven source. Both linear ME coefficient and noise floor near f_C (bandwidth of noise measurement is 10 Hz) were dependent on H_bias, while the nonlinear ME coefficient was independent. A high magnetic‐field sensitivity of 40 pT was obtained after optimizing H_bias. (© 2014 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)     

Growth and magneto‐optical characteristics of cerium‐doped terbium gallium garnet by the floating zone method

Cerium‐doped terbium gallium garnet single crystal having a large Verdet constant was grown by floating zone (FZ) method, which was suitable for the use in optical devices. The lattice parameters and the X‐ray rocking curve measurement of the crystal was determined by X‐ray diffraction analysis. The Verdet constant of the crystal (B = 0.55 T) at the wavelength of 632.8 nm was −165.8 rad m⁻¹ T⁻¹ at room temperature, 23.7% larger than that of pure TGG (−134.0 rad m⁻¹ T⁻¹). The performance of the high optical quality and excellent magneto‐optical properties of the crystal shows the great potential of using this new method to meet the increasing demand of VI‐NIR Faraday rotators.     

A family of quadriphase sequences of period 4(2 n − 1) with low correlation and large linear span

In this paper, a new family of quadriphase sequences with period 4(2 ⁿ ? 1) is proposed for n = me, where m is an odd integer. The correlation values of the family, their distribution, and the linear spans of the proposed sequences are completely determined under two situations.

Further properties of several classes of Boolean functions with optimum algebraic immunity

Based on a method proposed by the first author, several classes of balanced Boolean functions with optimum algebraic immunity are constructed, and they have nonlinearities significantly larger than the previously best known nonlinearity of functions with optimal algebraic immunity. By choosing suitable parameters, the constructed n-variable functions have nonlinearity for even for odd n, where Δ(n) is a function increasing rapidly with n. The algebraic degrees of some constructed functions are also discussed.      

Constructions of complete permutation polynomials

Based on the Feistel and MISTY structures, this paper presents several new constructions of complete permutation polynomials (CPPs) of the finite field \({\mathbb {F}}_{2^{n}}^2\) for a positive integer n and three constructions of CPPs over \({\mathbb {F}}_{p^{n}}^m\) for any prime p and positive integer \(m\ge 2\). In addition, we investigate the upper bound on the algebraic degree of these CPPs and show that some of them can have nearly optimal algebraic degree.
