A three-field local projection stabilized (LPS) finite element method is developed for computations of a three-dimensional axisymmetric buoyancy driven liquid drop rising in a liquid column where one of the liquid is viscoelastic. The two-phase flow is described by the time-dependent incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, whereas the viscoelasticity is modeled by the Giesekus constitutive equation in a time-dependent domain. The arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation with finite elements is used to solve the governing equations in the time-dependent domain. Interface-resolved moving meshes in ALE allows to incorporate the interfacial tension force and jumps in the material parameters accurately. A one-level LPS based on an enriched approximation space and a discontinuous projection space is used to stabilize the numerical scheme. A comprehensive numerical investigation is performed for a Newtonian drop rising in a viscoelastic fluid column and a viscoelastic drop rising in a Newtonian fluid column. The influence of the viscosity ratio, Newtonian solvent ratio, Giesekus mobility factor, and the Eötvös number on the drop dynamics are analyzed. The numerical study shows that beyond a critical Capillary number, a Newtonian drop rising in a viscoelastic fluid column experiences an extended trailing edge with a cusp-like shape and also exhibits a negative wake phenomena. However, a viscoelastic drop rising in a Newtonian fluid column develops an indentation around the rear stagnation point with a dimpled shape. 相似文献

This article presents an improved fifth-order finite difference weighted essentially nonoscillatory (WENO) scheme to solve Hamilton-Jacobi equations. A new type of nonlinear weights is introduced with the construction of local smoothness indicators on each local stencil that are measured with the help of generalized undivided differences in L1-norm. A novel global smoothness measurement is also constructed with the help of local measurements from its linear combination. Numerical experiments are conducted in one- and two-dimensions to demonstrate the performance enhancement, resolution power, numerical accuracy for the proposed scheme, and compared it with the classical WENO scheme. 相似文献

In recent days, humans are easily exposed to many work-related health issues. N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDE), which is considered to be a harmful carcinogenic agent released from rubber-based industries imparts a long-lasting effect on human health and immunity system. The current research investigates the ability of the two-dimensional nanomaterial, blue phosphorene nanosheet (BPNS) to detect the presence of NDE in the environment. Besides, the electronic and structural characteristics of BPNS are initially explored and NDE target vapour is permitted to interact with the chief component, BPNS. We have also designed blue phosphorene device to study the adsorption properties of NDE vapours based on current–voltage characteristics. The adsorption attributes are accounted for the target vapour adsorbed chief component, the results suggest that BPNS can be employed in detecting NDE vapours. 相似文献

PurposeSpeech-Language Pathologists can be categorized as Level II professional voice users who play the roles of voice therapist or vocal coach to treat voice problems. SLPs may be at the risk of experiencing vocal fatigue due to vocal loading and other contributing factors. The present study was undertaken to find the percentage of SLPs reporting vocal fatigue, the probable factors resulting in vocal fatigue, the measures that are taken to avoid/reduce the occurrence of vocal fatigue, its effect on their professional and personal life and the measures taken to tackle it.ResultsThe results of this study are based on data collected from 142 SLPs and 50 controls using a questionnaire. 71.13% SLPs reported that they experience vocal fatigue. Some of the contributing factors that are mainly reported are long durations of voice use, voice use for recreational purposes, speaking loudly, frequent throat clearing, lack of adequate hydration and working in noisy or air-conditioned environments. The major symptoms reported were dryness in throat, tightness in neck and shoulder, choking sensation, effortful speech and pain in the throat. 59% SLPs reported that vocal fatigue affected their professional life while 44% SLPs reported that it affects their personal life also to varying degrees. Measures taken to avoid/ reduce the occurrence of vocal fatigue included vocal warm up, break in between sessions, and play activities. Only a few SLPs took intervention measures like ENT consultation, voice therapy, and home remedies.ConclusionSLPs are inevitably at high risk of experiencing vocal fatigue which, if left untreated, will lead to organic voice problems. However, many young SLPs who experience vocal fatigue reported vocal abuse, do not follow vocal hygiene program and do not follow evidence-based preventive or intervention practices to treat vocal fatigue. 相似文献

This paper investigates nonlinear combined parametric transverse vibrations of a traveling viscoelastic beam. The combined parametric excitations originate from the time dependency of axial velocity as well as axial tension. Two parametric excitations are enforced into the system amid the internal resonance. Two-frequency parametric resonance is assumed to be comprised of combination parametric resonance of first two modes due to the time dependency of axial velocity, and the principal parametric resonance of first mode due to the variable tension in the axial direction in the presence of internal resonance for viscoelastic beam is considered for the first time. The higher-order integro-partial differential equation of motion is solved through direct method of multiple scales. Continuation algorithm is employed to explore the stability and various bifurcations of the nonlinear dynamic system. Focus has been made to study the effect of variations of fluctuating tension component, fluctuating velocity component independently and when combined, internal and parametric frequency detuning parameters and damping on the system response. Frequency response equilibrium curves are complex and unique in shapes which are embodied with various bifurcations. Such steady-state behavior is not seen in the existent literature. With variation in fluctuating velocity component, the number of steady-state nontrivial equilibrium curves increases to three and with variation in fluctuating axial tension, they become four. In this process, significant changes in stability, number and position of various bifurcations like supercritical and subcritical pitchfork, Hopf and saddle node are observed. Unlike the previous study, the shape, stability and bifurcations of equilibrium curves under the combined effect of axial velocity and tension closely match with the case of fluctuating axial tension component. The effect of variation in internal and parametric frequency detuning parameter is more realized for second mode compared to first mode. A comparison of the present work with a previous one where axial tension is variable reveals many qualitative and quantitative similarities and dissimilarities. But when compared with earlier work where axial velocity is constant, significant dissimilarities are surfaced. The system displays a wide ranging dynamic behavior including stable periodic, quasiperiodic and unstable chaotic behavior. The numerical computation depicts various nonlinear characteristics and oscillatory behaviors which are not found so far in the existent literature. 相似文献

Thin silica gel layers impregnated with optically pure l ‐glutamic acid were used for direct resolution of enantiomers of (±)‐isoxsuprine in their native form. Three chiral derivatizing reagents, based on DFDNB moiety, were synthesized having l ‐alanine, l ‐valine and S‐benzyl‐l ‐cysteine as chiral auxiliaries. These were used to prepare diastereomers under microwave irradiation and conventional heating. The diastereomers were separated by reversed‐phase high‐performance liquid chromatography on a C18 column with detection at 340 nm using gradient elution with mobile phase containing aqueous trifluoroacetic acid and acetonitrile in different compositions and by thin‐layer chromatography (TLC) on reversed phase (RP) C18 plates. Diastereomers prepared with enantiomerically pure (+)‐isoxsuprine were used as standards for the determination of the elution order of diastereomers of (±)‐isoxsuprine. The elution order in the experimental study of RP‐TLC and RP‐HPLC supported the developed optimized structures of diastereomers based on density functional theory. The limit of detection was 0.1–0.09 µg/mL in TLC while it was in the range of 22–23 pg/mL in HPLC and 11–13 ng/mL in RP‐TLC for each enantiomer. The conditions of derivatization and chromatographic separation were optimized. The method was validated for accuracy, precision, limit of detection and limit of quantification. A series of self‐assembled “double saddle”‐type trinuclear complexes of [Pd3L′3 L 2] formulation have been synthesized by complexation of a series of cis‐protected palladium(II) components with a slightly divergent “E‐shaped” non‐chelating tridentate ligand, 1,1′‐(pyridine‐3,5‐diyl)bis(3‐(pyridin‐3‐yl)urea ( L ). The cis‐protecting agents L′ employed in the study are ethylenediamine (en), tetramethylethylenediamine (tmeda), 2,2′‐bipyridine (bpy), and 1,10‐phenanthroline (phen), for 1 , 2 , 3 , and 4 , respectively. The crystal structures of [Pd3(tmeda)3( L )2](NO3)6 ( 2 ), [Pd3(bpy)3( L )2](NO3)6 ( 3 ), and [Pd3(phen)3( L )2](NO3)6 ( 4 ) unequivocally support the new architecture. Two of the “double saddle”‐type complexes ( 3 and 4 ) are suitably crafted with π surfaces at the strategically located cis‐protecting sites to facilitate intermolecular π–π interactions in the solid state. As a consequence, six units of the 3 (or 4 ) are assembled, by means of six‐pairs of π–π stacking interactions, in a circular geometry to form an octadecanuclear molecular ring of [(Pd3L′3 L 2)6] composition. The overall arrangement of the rings in the crystal packing is equated with the traditional Indian art form rangoli. 相似文献

An environmentally benign, multicomponent integrated chemical process has been developed for the synthesis of 3,5-dispirosubstituted piperidines by cyclo-condensation reaction of amines, formaldehyde, and dimedone using iron(III) trifluroacetate [Fe(F3CCO2)3] Lewis acid in aqueous micellar medium at ambient temperature (25–30 °C). The heterogeneous solid acid catalyst conveniently promotes this double amino methylation reaction in which six molecules condense in one pot to form six new covalent bonds. The synthesized 3,5-dispirosubstituted piperidines have been screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity using agar well method. Many of these compounds showed satisfactory antibacterial activity as compared to standard drugs against all the bacteria tested. 相似文献

Biodegradable poly(butylene succinate-co-lactate) (PBSL)/starch blends that contain various amounts of starch were prepared. In addition, luffa fiber (LF) and kenaf fiber (KF) were incorporated, individually, into PBSL/starch (70/30) blend to achieve biocomposites. The LF and KF were treated with NaOH(aq) prior to their addition to the blend. The Young's modulus and flexural modulus of PBSL increased with the addition of starch and increased further after the formation of the biocomposites. The highest Young's modulus increment, which was found in the KF-added system, was up to a 2.2-fold increase compared with neat PBSL. The tensile/flexural/impact strength of PBSL declined after the formation of the blends. With the further addition of LF/KF, the said properties leveled off. The blends exhibited higher complex viscosity and dynamic storage modulus in the melt state than the neat PBSL, and the values further increased in the biocomposites. The crystallization temperature of PBSL slightly decreased in the blends. By contrast, the biocomposites showed an increment in PBSL crystallization temperature, from 73.0 °C (PBSL) to 75.3 °C (KF-added composite), thereby confirming the surface nucleation effect of LF/KF. The blends showed a higher degree of water absorption than PBSL. The formation of biocomposites led to an even higher degree of water absorption. The current approach of including LF/KF in the PBSL/starch blend to enhance the rigidity and biodegradability was advantageous in expanding the applications of PBSL. 相似文献
