On the simplicity of induced modules for reductive Lie algebras II

An open problem proposed by Friedlander and Parshall is considered. A sufficient condition is given for the simplicity of induced modules of reductive Lie algebras.     

Coleman automorphisms of finite groups and their minimal normal subgroups

In this paper, we show that all Coleman automorphisms of a finite group with self-central minimal non-trivial characteristic subgroup are inner; therefore the normalizer property holds for these groups. Using our methods we show that the holomorph and wreath product of finite simple groups, among others, have no non-inner Coleman automorphisms. As a further application of our theorems, we provide partial answers to questions raised by M. Hertweck and W. Kimmerle. Furthermore, we characterize the Coleman automorphisms of extensions of a finite nilpotent group by a cyclic p-group. Finally, we note that class-preserving Coleman automorphisms of p-power order of some nilpotent-by-nilpotent groups are inner, extending a result by J. Hai and J. Ge, where p is a prime number.     

Definable nilpotent and soluble envelopes in groups without the independence property

We prove that in a group without the independence property a nilpotent subgroup is always contained in a definable nilpotent subgroup of the same nilpotency class. The analogue for the soluble case is also shown when the subgroup is normal in the ambient group.     

Principal hierarchies of infinite-dimensional Frobenius manifolds: The extended 2D Toda lattice

We define a dispersionless tau-symmetric bihamiltonian integrable hierarchy on the space of pairs of functions analytic inside/outside the unit circle with simple poles at 0/∞$0/\infty$ respectively, which extends the dispersionless 2D Toda hierarchy of Takasaki and Takebe. Then we construct the deformed flat connection of the infinite-dimensional Frobenius manifold _M0$M_0$ introduced by Carlet, Dubrovin and Mertens (2011) [3] and, by explicitly solving the deformed flatness equations, we prove that the extended 2D Toda hierarchy coincides with principal hierarchy of _M0$M_0$.     

Infinitely many homoclinic orbits for a class of second‐order damped differential equations

We investigate the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic orbits for the second‐order damped differential equations For Equation 1 where L(t) and W(t,u) are neither autonomous nor periodic in t. Under certain assumptions on g, L, and W, we get infinitely many homoclinic orbits for superquadratic, subquadratic and concave–convex nonlinearities cases by using fountain theorem and dual fountain theorem in critical point theory. Fredholm boundary value problems for perturbed systems of dynamic equations on time scales

This paper offers conditions ensuring the existence of solutions of linear boundary value problems for systems of dynamic equations on time scales. Utilizing a method of Moore–Penrose pseudo‐inverse matrices leads to an analytical form of a criterion for the existence of solutions in a relevant space and, moreover, to the construction of a family of linearly independent solutions of such problems in a general case with the number of boundary conditions (defined by a linear vector functional) not coinciding with the number of unknowns of a system of dynamic equations. As an example of an application of the presented results, the problem of bifurcation of solutions of boundary value problems for systems of dynamic equations on time scales with a small parameter is considered.     

The (010) Surface of the Al45Cr7 Complex Intermetallic Compound: Insights from Density Functional Theory

The Al₄₅Cr₇ compound is considered to exhibit an approximant structure of the icosahedral Al₄Cr phase. Its (010) surface has been investigated in detail using density functional calculations. Surface energy calculations show that the stable terminations result from a cleavage of the crystal between adjacent atomic planes, in agreement with the layered structure of the compound. The integrity of the icosahedral atomic arrangements (icosahedral clusters) found in the bulk structure, is predicted to be removed at the surface. This result is in contrast to what has been previously concluded for the (010) surface of the Al₁₃Fe₄ quasicrystal approximant. Our findings are discussed in relation to the bonding network in the compound, calculated using the Crystal Orbital Hamiltonian Population approach, as possible reasons for such contrasted behavior.
