As determined by scratch tests, self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of octadecylphosphonic acid (OPA) on a muscovite mica substrate were found to be mechanically robust and to serve as a lubricant to protect the underlying mica substrate. For comparison purposes, three polymer films were subjected to scratch tests under the same conditions. The scratch tests were conducted using a diamond-tipped stylus, and the resultant scratches were examined using atomic force microscopy. The excellent mechanical strength of OPA SAMs is supported by analysis with time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, which suggests that the headgroup of the OPA is strongly bonded to the substrate atoms. The molecular lubrication provided by OPA SAMs suggests that the interaction between the headgroup and the substrate is sufficiently strong to endure significant shear force and that the hydrocarbon chains are able to dissipate shear energy. 相似文献

The use of 1H-NMR-based metabolomics to distinguish and identify unique markers of five Ontario ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) landraces and two ginseng species (P. quinquefolius and P. ginseng) was evaluated. Three landraces (2, 3, and 5) were distinguished from one another in the principal component analysis (PCA) scores plot. Further analysis was conducted and specific discriminating metabolites from the PCA loadings were determined. Landraces 3 and 5 were distinguishable on the basis of a decreased NMR intensity in the methyl ginsenoside region, indicating decreased overall ginsenoside levels. In addition, landrace 5 was separated by an increased amount of sucrose relative to the rest of the landraces. Landrace 2 was separated from the rest of the landraces by the increased level of ginsenoside Rb1. The Ontario P. quinquefolius was also compared with Asian P. ginseng by PCA, and clear separation between the two groups was detected in the PCA scores plot. The PCA loadings plot and a t-test NMR difference plot were able to identify an increased level of maltose and a decreased level of sucrose in the Asian ginseng compared with the Ontario ginseng. An overall decrease of ginsenoside content, especially ginsenoside Rb1, was also detected in the Asian ginseng’s metabolic profile. This study demonstrates the potential of NMR-based metabolomics as a powerful high-throughput technique in distinguishing various closely related ginseng landraces and its ability to identify metabolic differences from Ontario and Asian ginseng. The results from this study will allow better understanding for quality assessment, species authentication, and the potential for developing a fully automated method for quality control. Figure

A diverse collection of tetracycline derivatives has been synthesized utilizing Heck, Suzuki, and other palladium-coupling reactions via tetracycline arenediazonium and iodoarene salts. Large numbers of tetracyclines are now possible via these reactions, including numerous upper periphery derivatives of doxycycline, minocycline, sancycline, and methacycline modified at positions C7, C9, and C6-C13 on the tetracycline naphthacene ring. Application of palladium-coupling reactions to the tetracyclines has yielded new tetracycline classes with differing structural attributes, greatly increasing the structural diversity of this family of antibiotics, one of the last of the early antibiotic families to be expanded by organic and medicinal chemistry. 相似文献

High-quality TiO2 thin films have been deposited from aqueous titanium-peroxo solutions via spin coating. The effects of precursor solution pH on the crystallization behavior, morphology, density, and refractive index of the films are reported. From X-ray diffraction measurements, the amorphous as-deposited films are found to crystallize in the anatase phase at 250 °C. Surface and cross-section SEM images reveal that films deposited from an acidic precursor are more uniform and denser than those deposited from a basic precursor. X-ray reflectivity measurements show that films with smooth surfaces and high densities (up to 87% of single-crystal anatase) can be produced at temperatures as low as 300 °C. Measured densities are consistent with high refractive indices at 633 nm of 2.24 and 2.11 for films derived from acidic and basic precursors, respectively. The uniformity and dense nature of the films have allowed fabrication of multilayer dielectric optical elements with thermal processing at only 300 °C. The distributed Bragg reflector with four bilayers exhibits a reflectance of 92% and a stop band width of 150 nm. The optical microcavity has a quality factor of 20. The optical properties of all elements agree well with theoretical models, indicating good optical quality. Use of the precursor chemistry for direct photopatterning of TiO2 films without a polymer resist is also demonstrated. 相似文献

The aim of this paper is to compare radioxenon beta–gamma analysis algorithms using simulated spectra with experimentally measured background, where the ground truth of the signal is known. We believe that this is among the largest efforts to date in terms of the number of synthetic spectra generated and number of algorithms compared using identical spectra. We generate an estimate for the minimum detectable counts for each isotope using each algorithm. The paper also points out a conceptual model to put the various algorithms into a continuum. Our results show that existing algorithms can be improved and some newer algorithms can be better than the ones currently used.

The preparation and characterization of a series of magnesium(II) iodide complexes incorporating β‐diketiminate ligands of varying steric bulk and denticity, namely, [(ArNCMe)2CH]? (Ar=phenyl, (PhNacnac), mesityl (MesNacnac), or 2,6‐diisopropylphenyl (Dipp, DippNacnac)), [(DippNCtBu)2CH]? (tBuNacnac), and [(DippNCMe)(Me2NCH2CH2NCMe)CH]? (DmedaNacnac) are reported. The complexes [(PhNacnac)MgI(OEt2)], [(MesNacnac)MgI(OEt2)], [(DmedaNacnac)MgI(OEt2)], [(MesNacnac)MgI(thf)], [(DippNacnac)MgI(thf)], [(tBuNacnac)MgI], and [(tBuNacnac)MgI(DMAP)] (DMAP=4‐dimethylaminopyridine) were shown to be monomeric by X‐ray crystallography. In addition, the related β‐diketiminato beryllium and calcium iodide complexes, [(MesNacnac)BeI] and [{(DippNacnac)CaI(OEt2)}2] were prepared and crystallographically characterized. The reductions of all metal(II) iodide complexes by using various reagents were attempted. In two cases these reactions led to the magnesium(I) dimers, [(MesNacnac)MgMg(MesNacnac)] and [(tBuNacnac)MgMg(tBuNacnac)]. The reduction of a 1:1 mixture of [(DippNacnac)MgI(OEt2)] and [(MesNacnac)MgI(OEt2)] with potassium gave a low yield of the crystallographically characterized complex [(DippNacnac)Mg(μ‐H)(μ‐I)Mg(MesNacnac)]. All attempts to form beryllium(I) or calcium(I) dimers by reductions of [(MesNacnac)BeI], [{(DippNacnac)CaI(OEt2)}2], or [{(tBuNacnac)CaI(thf)}2] have so far been unsuccessful. The further reactivity of the magnesium(I) complexes [(MesNacnac)MgMg(MesNacnac)] and [(tBuNacnac)MgMg(tBuNacnac)] towards a variety of Lewis bases and unsaturated organic substrates was explored. These studies led to the complexes [(MesNacnac)Mg(L)Mg(L)(MesNacnac)] (L=THF or DMAP), [(MesNacnac)Mg(μ‐AdN6Ad)Mg(MesNacnac)] (Ad=1‐adamantyl), [(tBuNacnac)Mg(μ‐AdN6Ad)Mg(tBuNacnac)], and [(MesNacnac)Mg(μ‐tBu2N2C2O2)Mg(MesNacnac)] and revealed that, in general, the reactivity of the magnesium(I) dimers is inversely proportional to their steric bulk. The preparation and characterization of [(tBuNacnac)Mg(μ‐H)2Mg(tBuNacnac)] has shown the compound to have different structural and physical properties to [(tBuNacnac)MgMg(tBuNacnac)]. Treatment of the former with DMAP has given [(tBuNacnac)Mg(H)(DMAP)], the X‐ray crystal structure of which disclosed it to be the first structurally authenticated terminal magnesium hydride complex. Although attempts to prepare [(MesNacnac)Mg(μ‐H)2Mg(MesNacnac)] were not successful, a neutron diffraction study of the corresponding magnesium(I) complex, [(MesNacnac)MgMg(MesNacnac)] confirmed that the compound is devoid of hydride ligands. 相似文献
