The rectifying junction characteristics of the organic compound pyronine-B film on a p-type Si substrate has been studied. The pyronine-B has been sublimed on the top of p-Si surface. The barrier height and ideality factor values of 0.79±0.04 and 1.13±0.06 eV for this structure have been obtained from the forward bias current-voltage (I-V) characteristics. From the low capacitance-frequency (C-f) characteristics as well as conductance-frequency (G-f) characteristics, the energy distribution of the interface states and their relaxation time have been determined in the energy range of (0.53−Ev)-(0.79−Ev) eV taking into account the forward bias I-V data. The interface state density Nss ranges from 4.93×1010 cm−2 eV−1 in (0.79−Ev) eV to 3.67×1013 cm−2 eV−1 in (0.53−Ev) eV. Furthermore, the relaxation ranges from 3.80×10−3 s in (0.53−Ev) eV to 4.21×10−4 s in (0.79−Ev) eV. It has been seen that the interface state density has an exponential rise with bias from the midgap towards the top of the valence band. Summary This review highlights recent advances in the use of quantum dots (QD’s) as luminescent sensors. The bulk of the study concentrates
on systems that possess organic ligands bound to the surface of QD’s. These ligands vary from low molecular weight thiols
to larger molecules such as maltose binding protein. All have one thing in common: when a target analyte binds to the ligand/receptor,
a perturbation of the system occurs, that registers itself as a change in the luminescence intensity of the QD. Two main mechanisms
are prevalent in controlling the luminescent intensity in such systems. The first is Photoinduced Electron Transfer (PET)
and the second energy transfer. This review looks at current sensors that operate by using these mechanisms. Two component
systems are also investigated where a quencher is first added to a solution of the QD, followed by addition of the target

The present paper reviews aspects related to the biocompatibility of NiTi shape memory alloys used for medical applications. These smart metallic materials, which are characterised by outstanding mechanical properties, have been gaining increasing importance over the last two decades in many minimal invasive surgery and diagnostic applications, as well as for other uses, such as in orthodontic appliances. Due to the presence of high amounts of Ni, the cytotoxicity of such alloys is under scrutiny. In this review paper we analyse work published on the biocompatibility of NiTi alloys, considering aspects related to: (1) corrosion properties and the different methods used to test them, as well as specimen surface states; (2) biocompatibility tests in vitro and in vivo; (3) the release of Ni ions. It is shown that NiTi shape memory alloys are generally characterised by good corrosion properties, in most cases superior to those of conventional stainless steel or Co–Cr–Mo-based biomedical materials. The majority of biocompatibility studies suggest that these alloys have low cytotoxicity (both in vitro and in vivo) as well as low genotoxicity. The release of Ni ions depends on the surface state and the surface chemistry. Smooth surfaces with well-controlled structures and chemistries of the outermost protective TiO2 layer lead to negligible release of Ni ions, with concentrations below the normal human daily intake. 相似文献

This article examines the current status of Markov processes in single molecule fluorescence. For molecular dynamics to be described by a Markov process, the Markov process must include all states involved in the dynamics and the first-passage time (FPT) distributions out of those states must be describable by a simple exponential law. The observation of non-exponential FPT distributions or other evidence of non-Markovian dynamics is common in single molecule studies and offers an opportunity to expand the Markov model to include new dynamics or states that improve understanding of the system. 相似文献

Two different rehydration procedures in the liquid or gas phase have been applied to reconstruct mixed oxides derived from calcined hydrotalcite-like materials to be used as catalysts for aldol condensation reactions. The as-synthesized hydrotalcite, its decomposition product, as well as the reconstructed solids upon rehydration were characterized by XRD, N(2) adsorption, He pycnometry, FTIR, SEM, TEM, (27)Al MAS-NMR and CO(2)-TPD (TPD=temperature-programmed desorption). Compared to the Mg-Al mixed oxide rehydrated in the gas phase (HT-rg), that rehydrated in the liquid phase (HT-rl) exhibits a superior catalytic performance with respect to the aldol condensation of citral with ketones to yield pseudoionones and in the self-aldolization of acetone. The textural properties of HT-rl and HT-rg differ strongly and determine the catalytic behavior. A memory effect led to a higher degree of reconstruction of the lamellar structure when the mixed oxide was rehydrated in the gas phase rather than in the liquid phase, although liquid-phase rehydration under fast stirring produced a surface area that was 26 times greater. This contrasts to typical statements in the literature claiming a higher degree of reconstruction in the presence of large amounts of water in the medium. CO(2)-TPD shows that the number of OH(-) groups and their nature are very similar in HT-rg and HT-rl, and cannot explain the markedly different catalytic behavior. Accordingly, only a small fraction of the available basic sites in the rehydrated samples is active in liquid-phase aldol condensations. Our results support the model in which only basic sites near the edges of the hydrotalcite platelets are partaking in aldol reactions. Based on this, reconstructed materials with small crystallites (produced by exfoliation during mechanical stirring), that is, possessing a high external surface area, are beneficial in the reactions compared to larger crystals with a high degree of intraplatelet porosity. 相似文献

In this work, a combination of complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) microchip system with capillary array electrophoresis (CAE) is demonstrated as a system for optimizing conditions for enzymatic reaction. Dimethylacridinone (DDAO)-phosphate substrate and alkaline phosphatase conjugate were selected for the enzymatic reaction, which was applicable to the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique. Laser-induced fluorometry with a miniature semiconductor laser was used to detect the enzymatic products. The speed of the enzymatic reaction between the DDAO-phosphate and the alkaline phosphatase conjugate was investigated as a function of reaction time. The microchip-CAE detection system could determine the pH condition and the concentration of enzyme that are suitable for rapid and low-cost analysis. This result shows the feasibility of using the microchip-CAE system for application to miniaturized screening systems. 相似文献
