An inverted conical flame anchored on a central bluff-body in an unconfined burner configuration features a distinctive acoustic response. This configuration typifies more complex situations in which the thermo-acoustic instability is driven by the interaction of a flame with a convective vorticity mode. The axisymmetric geometry investigated in this article features a shear region between the reactive jet and the surrounding atmosphere. It exhibits self-sustained oscillations for certain operating conditions involving a powerful flame collapse phenomenon with sudden annihilation of flame surface area. This is caused by a strong interaction between the flame and vortices created in the outer jet shear layer, a process which determines the amplitude of heat release fluctuation and its time delay with respect to incident velocity perturbations. This process also generates an acoustic field that excites the burner and synchronizes the vortex shedding mechanism. The transfer functions between the velocity signal at the burner outlet and heat release are obtained experimentally for a set of flow velocities fluctuations levels. It is found that heat release fluctuations are a strong function of the incoming velocity perturbation amplitude and that the time delay between these two quantities is mainly determined by the convection of the large scale vortices formed in the jet shear layer. A model is formulated, which suitably describes the observed instabilities.  相似文献

The NASA Langley Research Center Curved Duct Test Rig (CDTR) is designed to test aircraft engine nacelle liner samples in an environment approximating that of the engine on a scale that approaches the full scale dimensions of the aft bypass duct. The modal content of the sound in the duct can be determined and the modal content of the sound incident on the liner test section can be controlled. The effect of flow speed, up to Mach 0.5 in the test section, can be investigated. The results reported in this paper come from a study to evaluate the effect of duct configuration on the acoustic performance of single degree of freedom (SDOF) perforate-over-honeycomb liners. Variations of duct configuration include: asymmetric (liner on one side and hard wall opposite) and symmetric (liner on both sides) wall treatment; inlet and exhaust orientation, in which the sound propagates either against or with the flow; and straight and curved (outlet is offset from the inlet by one duct width) flow path. The effect that duct configuration has on the overall acoustic performance is quantified. The redistribution of incident mode content is shown, in particular the mode scatter effect that liner symmetry has on symmetric and asymmetric incident mode shapes. The Curved Duct Test Rig is shown to be a valuable tool for the evaluation of acoustic liner concepts.  相似文献

The unsteady motions of an inviscid vortex under the influence of a cylinder pair in the presence of a low Mach number mean flow and the corresponding sound generation are examined in the present study. The two cylinders are in close proximity. A semi-analytical approach using the conformal mapping together with the potential theory is adopted. The results show that the vortex will interact intensively with the cylinders under the right combinations of mean flow direction and initial vortex position. Such interactions result in a high rate of change of vortex propagation velocity, strong fluctuating forces on cylinder and strong sound radiations. However, it is found that much stronger acoustic energy radiation will result when the vortex approaches the cylinder pair from the bottom than from the top, unless the mean flow is nearly perpendicular to the horizontal cylinder pair axis. Stronger sound radiation is also observed for the identical cylinder cases in general, except the flow direction is close to some critical values.  相似文献

The Wave Based Method is a deterministic prediction technique to solve steady-state dynamic problems and is developed to overcome some of the frequency limitations imposed by element-based prediction techniques. The method belongs to the family of indirect Trefftz approaches and uses a weighted sum of so-called wave functions, which are exact solutions of the governing partial differential equations, to approximate the dynamic field variables. By minimising the errors on boundary and interface conditions, a system of equations is obtained which can be solved for the unknown contribution factors of each wave function. As a result, the system of equations is smaller and a higher convergence rate and lower computational loads are obtained as compared to conventional prediction techniques. On the other hand, the method shows its full efficiency for rather moderately complex geometries. As a result, various enhancements have been made to the method through the years, in order to extend the applicability of the Wave Based Method. This paper gives an overview of the current state of the art of the Wave Based Method, elaborating on the modelling procedure, a comparison of the properties of the Wave Based Method and element-based prediction techniques, application areas, extensions to the method such as hybrid and multi-level approaches and the most recent developments.  相似文献

The radiation efficiency of a flat rectangular plate is often used as a basis on which to represent the sound radiation from more complex plate-like structures. The solution for a plate set in a rigid baffle is well known, including the radiation efficiency for multi-modal response of the plate. In this case the assumption is usually made that each mode within a given frequency band has equal modal vibration energy. This paper explores a number of limitations of this simple result. First, the extent to which the radiation efficiency for a particular forcing point deviates from the modal-average result is investigated. Second, the difference is shown between the results for a baffled plate and an unbaffled plate. For a multi-modal response, an empirical formula is also presented which allows the radiation efficiency to be estimated for the unbaffled case. Finally, the effect of different boundary conditions on both baffled and unbaffled results is demonstrated by comparing the results for guided boundaries with those for simply supported boundaries.  相似文献

Whilst vibration analysis of planetary gearbox faults is relatively well established, the application of Acoustic Emission (AE) to this field is still in its infancy. The localization of plastic deformation is discussed as “stationary discontinuity” characterized by a vanishing velocity of an acceleration wave derived using the author’s proposed theory of ultrasonic wave velocities propagating in plastically deformed solids. To formulate the proposed theory, the elasto-plastic coupling effect was introduced to consider the elastic stiffness degradation due to the plastic deformation. The driving force of the deformation localization is caused by the yield vertex effect, which introduces a pronounced softening of the shear modulus, and geometrical softening due to double slip caused by lattice rotations. In the present paper, it is examined theoretically and experimentally that the diagonal terms of the introduced elasto-plastic coupling tensor represent a slight hardening followed by a pronounced softening of the elastic modulus induced by the point defect development caused by cross slides among dislocations at multiple slip stages similar to the yield vertex effects. The off-diagonal terms represent geometrical softening induced by lattice rotations such as texture evolution. Then, based on the coincidence of the onset strains between localization and acceleration waves of vanishing velocity, the diagrams of diffuse necking, localized necking and forming limit are analyzed by applying the proposed acoustic tensor, which is based on the generalized Christoffel tensor derived by the author, and solving cut off conditions of the quasi-longitudinal wave to determine the onset strains of deformation localization and localization modes. As a result, diagrams of diffuse necking, localized necking and forming limit were obtained. Moreover, the localization modes were determined and distinguished as the SH-mode, SV-mode, tearing mode and splitting mode.  相似文献
