5-Aza-2′-deoxycytidine reactivates the CDH1 gene without influencing methylation of the entire CpG island or histone modification in a human cancer cell line

It is well-recognized that DNA methylation and histone modifications play critical roles in epigenetic regulation of gene activity through the alteration of chromatin structure. Recent studies have shown that in a subset of cancer cells, the silencing of the human E-cadherin (CDH1) gene is associated with hypermethylation of the CpG island. However, the associated molecular mechanism remains unclear. To understand the mechanism, we have investigated the alteration of CpG island methylation and histone modifications during the reactivation of the CDH1 gene by treatment with 5-aza-2′-deoxycytidine (5-aza-dC). Although the CDH1 gene expression was recovered by treatment with 5-aza-dC in a liver cancer cell line Li21, the methylation status of the entire CpG island and acetylation and methylation status of associated histones were not significantly altered. These results demonstrate that the silenced CDH1 gene can be reactivated without apparent alteration of histone modification or CpG island methylation.     

Calculus of functors and model categories

The category of small covariant functors from simplicial sets to simplicial sets supports the projective model structure [B. Chorny, W.G. Dwyer, Homotopy theory of small diagrams over large categories, preprint, 2005]. In this paper we construct various localizations of the projective model structure and also give a variant for functors from simplicial sets to spectra. We apply these model categories in the study of calculus of functors, namely for a classification of polynomial and homogeneous functors. In the n-homogeneous model structure, the nth derivative is a Quillen functor to the category of spectra with Σn-action. After taking into account only finitary functors—which may be done in two different ways—the above Quillen map becomes a Quillen equivalence. This improves the classification of finitary homogeneous functors by T.G. Goodwillie [T.G. Goodwillie, Calculus. III. Taylor series, Geom. Topol. 7 (2003) 645-711 (electronic)].     

Realization of 2-solvable nilpotent groups as groups of classes of homotopy self-equivalences

Let X be a 1-connected CW-complex of finite type and ε_?(X) be the group of homotopy classes of self-equivalences of X which induce the identity on homotopy groups. In this paper, we prove that every finitely generated 2-solvable rational nilpotent group is realizable as ε_?(X) where X is the rationalization of a 1-connected CW-complex of finite type.     

Symmetrisation of n-operads and compactification of real configuration spaces

It is well known that the forgetful functor from symmetric operads to nonsymmetric operads has a left adjoint Sym₁ given by product with the symmetric group operad. It is also well known that this functor does not affect the category of algebras of the operad. From the point of view of the author's theory of higher operads, the nonsymmetric operads are 1-operads and Sym₁ is the first term of the infinite series of left adjoint functors Symn, called symmetrisation functors, from n-operads to symmetric operads with the property that the category of one object, one arrow, …, one (n−1)-arrow algebras of an n-operad A is isomorphic to the category of algebras of Symn(A).In this paper we consider some geometrical and homotopical aspects of the symmetrisation of n-operads. We follow Getzler and Jones and consider their decomposition of the Fulton-Macpherson operad of compactified real configuration spaces. We construct an n-operadic counterpart of this compactification which we call the Getzler-Jones operad. We study the properties of Getzler-Jones operad and find that it is contractible and cofibrant in an appropriate model category. The symmetrisation of the Getzler-Jones operad turns out to be exactly the operad of Fulton and Macpherson. These results should be considered as an extension of Stasheff's theory of 1-fold loop spaces to n-fold loop spaces n?2. We also show that a space X with an action of a contractible n-operad has a natural structure of an algebra over an operad weakly equivalent to the little n-disks operad. A similar result holds for chain operads. These results generalise the classical Eckman-Hilton argument to arbitrary dimension.Finally, we apply the techniques to the Swiss-Cheese type operads introduced by Voronov and prove analogous results in this case.     

Long-Term Changes in a Heat Exchanger Steel

The steel ASTM A213 P22 is used for superheater outlet header in power plants. During duty cycles lasting over tens of years the temperature is of the order of 545°C and the pressure 125 atm. The microscopic changes in these steels are hard to analyze under working conditions, but they are believed to be responsible for the appearance of creeps in such devices. Investigation of the microscopic modifications will help to predict future failures due to creeps, increasing the reliability and saving a lot of money.We report the investigation of such changes in ASTM A213 P22 steel in use for 30 years as a Superheater header at Haifa power station. The analysis has been carried out using Mössbauer Spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and optical microscopy. As a result it seems that the morphology and phase change of the carbide phases M₃C/M₇C₃ and M₂₃C₆ are the most prominent changes leading to the material failures.     

Ce3+-冠醚配合物的紫外有机电致发光

采用5d-4f跃迁的稀土Ce³⁺-冠醚配合物(Ce-二环己基并-18-冠-6,Ce-DC18C6)作为发光掺杂剂,4,4'-二(9-咔唑基)联苯(CBP)为基质,设计制备了紫外发光器件:ITO/CuPc/Ce-DC18C6:CBP/Bu-PBD/LiF/Al,首次观测到峰位于376nm的Ce³⁺离子的紫外电致发光。通过对比器件的EL谱与Ce³⁺-冠醚配合物薄膜的PL谱发现,EL光谱中有部分来自Ce³⁺配合物中的Ce³⁺离子的。这种5d-4f电子跃迁的掺杂质量分数为3%时,该UV-发光器件的最大辐射功率为13μW/cm²。     

具有高机械强度的掺Er~(3 )∶TeO_2-Nb_2O_5玻璃的光谱性质研究

熔制了掺铒碲铌玻璃样品(100-X)TeO2-XNb2O5(X=5,10,15,20mol%),测试了其密度、折射率、转变温度、析晶温度、维氏机械强度、吸收光谱、荧光光谱、荧光寿命等参量。利用Judd-Ofelt和McCumber理论分别计算了铒离子强度参量Ωt(t=2,4,6)和受激发射截面σemi的大小,研究了掺铒碲铌玻璃样品光谱参量对Nb2O5成分的依赖性,并与典型的碲锌钠玻璃(75TeO2-20ZnO-5Na2O)在热学、机械强度、光谱性质和放大品行四个方面进行了比较.     

枸橼酸莫沙必利的合成

分别以邻羟基对氨基苯甲醇钠，对氟苯甲醛，邻苯二甲酰亚胺为起始原料，制得3个中间体，用其中2个中间体经偶合，环化后与第3个中间体反应，再经成盐制得产品，其摩尔总收率为31．5％。     

HeI photoelectron spectroscopic (PES) and quantum chemistry study on the dimeric compound of 2(5H) furanone

The He1 photoelectron (PE) spectra of both 2(5H) furanone and itstrans-chair-dimeric-compound (t-c-DFN) are reported. The assignment of the PES bands is made on the basis of band shapes, the PES results of the molecules which have the similar atomic groups, and the restricted Hartree-Fock (RHF) calculations for the molecules studied. From the results of both PES experimental and theoretical calculations, it is proved that the ionization potential (IPS) of the HOMO for the dimeric-compound is lower than that of the HOMO for the monomer. And the total energy computed for thet-c-DFN is the lowest in the four possible configurations of dimeric-compounds of 2(5H) furanone. Therefore the synthesis oft-c-DFN is also the easiest. The homotopy categorical crossed module of a CW-complex

Crossed modules have longstanding uses in homotopy theory and the cohomology of groups. The corresponding notion in the setting of categorical groups, that is, categorical crosses modules, allowed the development of a low-dimensional categorical group cohomology. Now, its relevance is also shown here to homotopy types by associating, to any pointed CW-complex (X,∗), a categorical crossed module that algebraically represents the homotopy 3-type of X.
