Multi-dimensional asymptotically quasi-Toeplitz Markov chains and their application in queueing theory

Multi-dimensional asymptotically quasi-Toeplitz Markov chains with discrete and continuous time are introduced. Ergodicity and non-ergodicity conditions are proven. Numerically stable algorithm to calculate the stationary distribution is presented. Pseudo-Anosov foliations on periodic surfaces

We study lifts of the stable foliation of a pseudo-Anosov diffeomorphism to abelian covers. Under certain conditions, we show that it is ergodic but not uniquely ergodic and describe the ergodic measures.     

Special simplices and Gorenstein toric rings

Athanasiadis [Ehrhart polynomials, simplicial polytopes, magic squares and a conjecture of Stanley, J. Reine Angew. Math., to appear.] studies an effective technique to show that Gorenstein sequences coming from compressed polytopes are unimodal. In the present paper we will use such the technique to find a rich class of Gorenstein toric rings with unimodal h-vectors arising from finite graphs.     

Connections between semidefinite relaxations of the max-cut and stable set problems

We describe links between a recently introduced semidefinite relaxation for the max-cut problem and the well known semidefinite relaxation for the stable set problem underlying the Lovász’s theta function. It turns out that the connection between the convex bodies defining the semidefinite relaxations mimics the connection existing between the corresponding polyhedra. We also show how the semidefinite relaxations can be combined with the classical linear relaxations in order to obtain tighter relaxations. This work was done while the author visited CWI, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Svata Poljak untimely deceased in April 1995. We shall both miss Svata very much. Svata was an excellent colleague, from whom we learned a lot of mathematics and with whom working was always a very enjoyable experience; above all, Svata was a very nice person and a close friend of us. Rigid nitronyl-nitroxide-labelled anchoring molecules: syntheses, structural and magnetic investigations

The syntheses of two rigid organic molecular rods bearing a nitronyl-nitroxide radical and a terminal nitrogen-based functionality like a pyridine or a cyano group are reported. Both new paramagnetic molecules are fully characterized, including crystal structure analysis. Furthermore their magnetic behaviours in the crystalline state are investigated and their spin concentration corroborate their excellent purity. While the pyridine functionalized rod is synthesized by converting the corresponding benzaldehyde to the phenyl-nitronyl-nitroxide radical, the synthesis of the cyano functionalized rod demonstrates the accessibility of highly sophisticated spin-labelled molecules via cross-coupling reaction with a meta-iodo-phenyl-nitronyl-nitroxide moiety.     

Complete Surjections and Complete Epimorphisms over Completely Distributive Lattices

Generators and lattice properties of the poset of complete homomorphisic images of a completely distributive lattice are exploited via the localic methods. Some intrinsic and extrinsic conditions about this poset to be a completely distributive lattice are given. It is shown that the category of completely distributive lattices is co-well-powered,and complete epimorphisms on completely distributive lattice are not necessary to be surjections. Finally, some conditions about complete epimorphisms to be surjections are given.     

The Convergence of (r|~)_s(b_0h_n-h_1b_(n-1))

This paper computes the Thorn map onγ2 and proves that it is represented by 2b2,0h1,2 in the ASS. The authors also compute the higher May differential of 62,0, from which it is proved thatγs(b0hn-h1bn-1) for 2≤s < p - 1 are permanent cycles in the ASS.     

On error operators related to the arbitrary functions principle

The error on a real quantity Y due to the graduation of the measuring instrument may be asymptotically represented, when the graduation is regular and fines down, by a Dirichlet form on R whose square field operator does not depend on the probability law of Y as soon as this law possesses a continuous density. This feature is related to the “arbitrary functions principle” (Poincaré, Hopf). We give extensions of this property to Rd and to the Wiener space for some approximations of the Brownian motion. This gives new approximations of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck gradient. These results apply to the discretization of some stochastic differential equations encountered in mechanics.

Synthesis of stable azomethine ylides by the rearrangement of 1,3-dipolar cycloadducts of 3,4-dihydroisoquinoline-2-oxides with DMAD

1-Aryl-6,7-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines were prepared according to a one-pot procedure involving the reaction of 2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-ethylamine with aromatic aldehydes in TFA at reflux. The tetrahydroisoquinolines were treated with H₂O₂-WO₄²⁻ in methanol at room temperature to give the corresponding 3,4-dihydroisoquinoline-2-oxides. Treatment of these cyclic nitrones with DMAD in toluene at room temperature gave the corresponding isoxazolo[3,2-a]isoquinolines. These compounds were heated in toluene at reflux to give the corresponding ylides in high yields (Method A). The effect of the substituents on the rate of the rearrangement of such compounds prompted us to discuss a new mechanism involving consecutive C-C bond heterolysis and 1,3-sigmatropic shift. A one-pot reaction involving the treatment of the nitrones with equimolar amounts of DMAD in refluxing toluene also gave the ylides (Method B). The structures of the prepared compounds were elucidated by spectral means and elemental analyses.
