Dedekind’s linear independence theorem over commutative semirings

In this paper, Dedekind’s theorem on the linear independence of homomorphisms of commutative semirings is studied. Furthermore, this theorem is extended to the case of linear independence of compositions of homomorphisms and powers of a derivation. The results obtained in this paper generalize and develop previous results for fields.     

Non-triviality of Tate cohomology for certain classes of finite p-groups

We prove that the Tate cohomology groups ?ⁿ(G∕Φ(G),Z(Φ(G))) are non-trivial, whenever G is a finite p-group of class 3, or the pth term of the upper central series of G contains Z(Φ(G)). This confirms a conjecture of Schmid for these groups.

On weakly prime radical of modules and semi-compatible modules

Summary Let M be a left R-module. Then a proper submodule P of M is called weakly prime submodule if for any ideals A and B of R and any submodule N of M such that ABN ⊆ P, we have AN ⊆ P or BN ⊆ P. We define weakly prime radicals of modules and show that for Ore domains, the study of weakly prime radicals of general modules reduces to that of torsion modules. We determine the weakly prime radical of any module over a commutative domain R with dim (R) ≦ 1. Also, we show that over a commutative domain R with dim (R) ≦ 1, every semiprime submodule of any module is an intersection of weakly prime submodules. Localization of a module over a commutative ring preserves the weakly prime property. An R-module M is called semi-compatible if every weakly prime submodule of M is an intersection of prime submodules. Also, a ring R is called semi-compatible if every R-module is semi-compatible. It is shown that any projective module over a commutative ring is semi-compatible and that a commutative Noetherian ring R is semi-compatible if and only if for every prime ideal B of R, the ring R/\B is a Dedekind domain. Finally, we show that if R is a UFD such that the free R-module R⊕ R is a semi-compatible module, then R is a Bezout domain.     

Toward Verification of the Riemann Hypothesis: Application of the Li Criterion

We substantially apply the Li criterion for the Riemann hypothesis to hold. Based upon a series representation for the sequence {λ_k}, which are certain logarithmic derivatives of the Riemann xi function evaluated at unity, we determine new bounds for relevant Riemann zeta function sums and the sequence itself. We find that the Riemann hypothesis holds if certain conjectured properties of a sequence η_j are valid. The constants η_j enter the Laurent expansion of the logarithmic derivative of the zeta function about s=1 and appear to have remarkable characteristics. On our conjecture, not only does the Riemann hypothesis follow, but an inequality governing the values λ_n and inequalities for the sums of reciprocal powers of the nontrivial zeros of the zeta function. Properties of Higher-Dimensional Shintani Generating Functions and Cocycles on Pgl3(Q)

In an earlier paper the second author used the formal, algebraicproperties of 2-dimensional Shintani generating functions toconstruct a 1-cocycle on PGL₂{Q}. We aim to generalise theseresults by using such functions in dimension n to obtain an(n–1)-cocycle on PGL_n{Q}, presumably related to the Bernoulliand Eisenstein cocycles of R. Sczech. By improving our methodswe achieve this goal for n=3. For n>3 we encounter obstaclesrelated to degenerate configurations of hyperplanes in n-space.Nevertheless, we obtain partial results closely connected toreciprocity laws for certain n-dimensional Dedekind sums. 1991Mathematics Subject Classification: 11F20, 11F75.     

Finite p-groups with a minimal non-abelian subgroup of index p(Ⅱ)

We classify completely three-generator finite p-groups G such that Ф(G)≤Z(G)and|G′|≤p2.This paper is a part of the classification of finite p-groups with a minimal non-abelian subgroup of index p,and solve partly a problem proposed by Berkovich.
