Multi-adjoint algebras versus non-commutative residuated structures

Adjoint triples and pairs are basic operators used in several domains, since they increase the flexibility in the framework in which they are considered. This paper introduces multi-adjoint algebras and several properties; also, we will show that an adjoint triple and its “dual” cannot be considered in the same framework.Moreover, a comparison among general algebraic structures used in different frameworks, which reduce the considered mathematical requirements, such as the implicative extended-order algebras, implicative structures, the residuated algebras given by sup-preserving aggregations and the conjunctive algebras given by semi-uninorms and u-norms, is presented. This comparison shows that multi-adjoint algebras generalize these structures in domains which require residuated implications, such as in formal concept analysis, fuzzy rough sets, fuzzy relation equations and fuzzy logic.     

Boundary Behavior of Semigroups of Holomorphic Mappings on the Unit Ball in C n

We study the asymptotic behavior of semigroups generated by holomorphic mappings by using an infinitesimal version of the boundary Schwarz-Wolff Lemma. In particular, the best rate of exponential convergence is obtained. In addition, we establish a geometrical version of the implicit function theorem.     

On Lattice-ordered Rees Matrix Semigroups

Relationship between different approaches to derive weighting functions related to atmospheric remote sensing problems

The paper is devoted to the investigation of the relationship between different methods used to derive weighting functions required to solve numerous inverse problems related to the remote sensing of the Earth's atmosphere by means of scattered solar light observations. The first method commonly referred to as the forward-adjoint approach is based on a joint solution of the forward and adjoint radiative transfer equations and the second one requires the linearized forward radiative transfer equation to be solved. In the framework of the forward-adjoint method we consider two approaches commonly used to derive the weighting functions. These approaches are referenced as the “response function” and the “formal solution” techniques, respectively. We demonstrate here that the weighting functions derived employing the formal solution technique can also be obtained substituting the analytical representations for the direct forward and direct adjoint intensities into corresponding expressions obtained in the framework of the response function technique. The advantages and disadvantages of different techniques are discussed.     

New approach to a generalized fractional integral

The paper presents a new fractional integration, which generalizes the Riemann-Liouville and Hadamard fractional integrals into a single form. Conditions are given for such a fractional integration operator to be bounded in an extended Lebesgue measurable space. Semigroup property for the above operator is also proved. We give a general definition of the fractional derivatives and give some examples.     

Affine Near-Semirings Over Brandt Semigroups

In order to study the structure of A ⁺(B _n )—the affine near-semiring over a Brandt semigroup—this work completely characterizes the Green's classes of its semigroup reducts. In this connection, this work classifies the elements of A ⁺(B _n ) and reports the size of A ⁺(B _n ). Further, idempotents and regular elements of the semigroup reducts of A ⁺(B _n ) have also been characterized and studied some relevant semigroups in A ⁺(B _n ).     

Adjoints of rationally induced composition operators

We give an elementary proof of a formula recently obtained by Hammond, Moorhouse, and Robbins for the adjoint of a rationally induced composition operator on the Hardy space H² [Christopher Hammond, Jennifer Moorhouse, Marian E. Robbins, Adjoints of composition operators with rational symbol, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 341 (2008) 626-639]. We discuss some variants and implications of this formula, and use it to provide a sufficient condition for a rationally induced composition operator adjoint to be a compact perturbation of a weighted composition operator.     

Poincaré like inequalities for semigroups, cosine and sine operator functions

Here we present Poincaré type general L _p inequalities regarding semigroups, cosine and sine operator functions.     

More non-semigroup Lie gradings

This note is devoted to the construction of two very easy examples, of respective dimensions 4 and 6, of graded Lie algebras whose grading is not given by a semigroup, the latter one being a semisimple algebra. It is shown that 4 is the minimal possible dimension for such graded Lie algebras.     

Zappa–Szép products of bands and groups

Zappa–Szép products arise when an algebraic structure has the property that every element has a unique decomposition as a product of elements from two given substructures. They may also be constructed from actions of two structures on one another, satisfying axioms first formulated by G. Zappa, and have a natural interpretation within automata theory. We study Zappa–Szép products arising from actions of a group and a band, and study the structure of the semigroup that results. When the band is a semilattice, the Zappa–Szép product is orthodox and ℒ-unipotent. We relate the construction (via automata theory) to the λ-semidirect product of inverse semigroups devised by Billhardt.
