Elliptic Equations with Degenerate Coercivity： Gradient Regularity

In this paper, we prove higher integrability results for the gradient of the solutions of some elliptic equations with degenerate coercivity whose prototype is where for example, a(x,u)=(1+|u|)^−θ with θ ∈ (0,1). We study the same problem for minima of functionals closely related to the previous equation.     

On copositive approximation in some classical spaces of sequences

In this paper the author writes a simple characterization for the best copositive approximation in c; the space of convergent sequences, by elements of finite dimensional Chebyshev subspaces, and shows that it is unique.

FRACTIONAL DIFFUSION EQUATIONS WITH INTERNAL DEGREES OF FREEDOM

We present a generalization of the linear one-dimensional diffusion equation by com-bining the fractional derivatives and the internal degrees of freedom. The solutions areconstructed from those of the scalar fractional diffusion equation. We analyze the in-terpolation between the standard diffusion and wave equations defined by the fractionalderivatives. Our main result is that we can define a diffusion process depending on theinternal degrees of freedom associated to the system.     

A Global Solution to a Two-dimensional Riemann Problem Involving Shocks as Free Boundaries

We present a global solution to a Riemann problem for the pressure gradient system of equations.The Riemann problem has initially two shock waves and two contact discontinuities. The angle between the two shock waves is set initially to be close to 180 degrees. The solution has a shock wave that is usually regarded as a free boundary in the self-similar variable plane. Our main contribution in methodology is handling the tangential oblique derivative boundary values.     

Testing Lack-of-fit for a Polynomial Errors-in-variables Model

When a regression model is applied as an approximation of underlying model of data, the model checking is important and relevant. In this paper, we investigate the lack-of-fit test for a polynomial error-in-variables model. As the ordinary residuals are biased when there exist measurement errors in covariables,we correct them and then construct a residual-based test of score type. The constructed test is asymptotically chi-squared under null hypotheses. Simulation study shows that the test can maintain the significance level well.The choice of weight functions involved in the test statistic and the related power study are also investigated.The application to two examples is illustrated. The approach can be readily extended to handle more general models.     

Some Limit Theorems in Geometric Processes

Geometric process (GP) was introduced by Lam[4,5], it is defined as a stochastic process {Xn, n = 1, 2,…} for which there exists a real number a > 0, such that {an-1 Xn, n = 1,2, …} forms a renewal process (RP). In this paper, we study some limit theorems in GP. We first derive the Wald equation for GP and then obtain the limit theorems of the age, residual life and the total life at t for a GP. A general limit theorem for Sn with a > 1 is also studied. Furthermore, we make a comparison between GP and RP, including the comparison of their limit distributions of the age, residual life and the total life at t.     

THE SPACE—FRACTIONAL TELEGRAPH EQUATION AND THE RELATED FRACTIONAL TELEGRAPH PROCESS

The space-fractional telegraph equation is analyzed and the Fourier transform of its fundamental solution is obtained and discussed.A symmetric process with discontinuous trajectories, whose transition function satisfies the space-fractional telegraph equation, is presented. Its limiting behaviour and the connection with symmetric stable processes is also examined.

Let R be a commutative ring without nil-factor. In this paper, we discuss the problem of quasi-valuation ring presented in the reference “Wang Shianghaw, On quasi-valuation ring, Northeast People‘s Univ. Natur. Sci. J., (1)(1957), 27-40”,when the quotient field of R is an algebraic number field or an algebraic function field, and we obtain a characterization of quasi-valuation rings.     

Comparison of MINQUE and Simple Estimate of the Error Variance in the General Linear Models

Comparison is made between the MINQUE and simple estimate of the error variance in the normal linear model under the nean square errors criterion,where the model matrix need not have full rank and the dispersion matrix can be singular.Our results show that any one of both estimates cannot be always superior to the other.Some sufficient criteria for any one of them to be better than the other are established.Some interesting relations between these two estimates are also given.
