Existence and Asymptotic Behaviour of Large Solutions of Semilinear Elliptic Equations

In this paper we are interested in the semilinear elliptic equations of the type u=u(,u), on bounded smooth domain of R ⁿ . We also treat existence of positive solution of u=p(x)f(u), which explodes near the boundary of (called large solutions). Our approach is based on potential theory.     

Extension of Transient Resolvents

For a submarkovian resolvent U=(U )_>0 with bounded initial kernel U ₀ on a Radon space X, we construct a minstable cone of potentials C on a compact metrizable space YX such that U extends to a subordonated (to C) resolvent on Y.     

On the connection between the existence of zeros and the asymptotic behavior of resolvents of maximal monotone operators in reflexive Banach spaces

A more systematic approach is introduced in the theory of zeros of maximal monotone operators , where is a real Banach space. A basic pair of necessary and sufficient boundary conditions is given for the existence of a zero of such an operator . These conditions are then shown to be equivalent to a certain asymptotic behavior of the resolvents or the Yosida resolvents of . Furthermore, several interesting corollaries are given, and the extendability of the necessary and sufficient conditions to the existence of zeros of locally defined, demicontinuous, monotone mappings is demonstrated. A result of Guan, about a pathwise connected set lying in the range of a monotone operator, is improved by including non-convex domains. A partial answer to Nirenberg's problem is also given. Namely, it is shown that a continuous, expansive mapping on a real Hilbert space is surjective if there exists a constant such that The methods for these results do not involve explicit use of any degree theory.

     

Uniqueness of the Bistable Traveling Wave for Mutualist Species

For a system of reaction–diffusion equations that models the interaction of n mutualist species, the existence of the bistable traveling wave solution has been proved where the nonlinear reaction terms possess a certain type of monotonicity. However the problem of whether there can be two distinct traveling waves remains open. In this paper we use a homotopy approach incorporated with the Liapunov–Schmidt method to show that the bistable traveling wave solution is unique. Our method developed in this paper can also be applied to study the existence and uniqueness of traveling wave solutions for some competition models.     

Weak and Strong Convergence Theorems for Maximal Monotone Operators in a Banach Space

In this paper, we introduce an iterative sequence for finding a solution of a maximal monotone operator in a uniformly convex Banach space. Then we first prove a strong convergence theorem, using the notion of generalized projection. Assuming that the duality mapping is weakly sequentially continuous, we next prove a weak convergence theorem, which extends the previous results of Rockafellar [SIAM J. Control Optim. 14 (1976), 877–898] and Kamimura and Takahashi [J. Approx. Theory 106 (2000), 226–240]. Finally, we apply our convergence theorem to the convex minimization problem and the variational inequality problem.

Ergodic potential

Potential Theory for ergodic Markov chains (with a discrete state spare and a continuous parameter) is developed in terms of the fundamental matrix of a chain.A notion of an ergodic potential for a chain is introduced and a form of Riesz decomposition theorem for measures is proved. Ergodic potentials of charges (with total charge zero) are shown to play the role of Green potentials for transient chains.     

Über Positive Resolventenwerte Positiver Operatoren

In this paper we study the positive resolvent values of positive operators respectively of positive elements in Banach lattice ordered algebras. In the matrix case these values are just the inverse M-matrices. One of the main results is the following: Let A be a Banach lattice ordered algebra. A positive invertible element xA is a resolvent value of a positive element yA if and only if the element x satisfies the negative principle: If aA, < 0 and xaa then xa 0.
