Some observations related to intermittency and multifractality in Si and C-nucleus collisions at

An attempt is made to study the existence of dynamical fluctuations of relativistic particles using the methods of modified multifractal moments, G_q, and scaled factorial moments, F_q, in terms of new scaled variable X(η) suggested by Bialas and Gazdzicki. For this purpose analyses of experimental and UrQMD data involving interactions of ²⁸Si and ¹²C nuclei at with nuclear emulsion are used. The variation of lnG_q and lnF_q with lnM in pseudorapidity (η) phase space reveals power law behaviour. The values of slopes, τ_q and _q determined from the analyses of G_q and F_q moments are discussed. The generalized fractal dimensions, D_q, determined from the above methods are found to decrease with the order of the moments, q, indicating multifractality in multiparticle production. It is also observed that the spectral function f(α_q) for heavier projectile is much broader than for lighter beam due to larger number of participating nucleons present in heavier projectile.

Flow with photon multiplicity detector: Past and future

Measurements of azimuthal distribution of inclusive photons using the fine granularity pre-shower photon multiplicity detector (PMD) at CERN SPS are used to obtain anisotropy in the azimuthal distributions. These results are used to estimate the anisotropy in the neutral pion distributions. The results are compared with results of charged particle data, both for first order and second order anisotropy. Assuming the same anisotropy for charged and neutral pions, the anisotropy in photons is estimated and compared with the measured anisotropy. The effect of neutral pion decay on the correlation between the first order and the second order event plane is also discussed. Data from PMD can also be used to estimate the reaction plane for studying any anisotropy in particle emission characteristics in the ALICE experiment at the large hadron collider (LHC). In particular, we show that using the event plane from the PMD, it will be possible to measure the anisotropy inJ/Ψ absorption (if any) in the ALICE experiment.

Pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at super proton synchrotron energies from the NA50 experiment

We present the measurements of charged particle pseudorapidity distributions dN_ch/dη performed by the NA50 experiment in Pb-Pb collisions at the CERN SPS. Measurements were done at incident energies of 40 GeV (√s = 8.77 GeV) and 158 GeV (√s = 17.3 GeV) per nucleon over a broad impact parameter range. The multiplicity distributions are studied as a function of centrality using the number of participating nucleons(N _part ), or the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions (N_coll). Their values at midrapidity exhibit a linear scaling withN _part at both energies. Particle yield increases approximately by a factor of 2 betweeny √s = 8.77 GeV and √s = 17.3 GeV.     

MULTIPLICITY OF POSITIVE SOLUTIONS FOR AN ELLIPTIC SYSTEM

By considering the properties of f(t,u,v)/u v, g(t,u,v)/u v, we show the multiplicity of at least two positive solutions of the elliptic system.
