Stress concentration and effective stiffness of aligned fiber reinforced composite with anisotropic constituents

The paper addresses the problem of calculation of the local stress field and effective elastic properties of a unidirectional fiber reinforced composite with anisotropic constituents. For this aim, the representative unit cell approach has been utilized. The micro geometry of the composite is modeled by a periodic structure with a unit cell containing multiple circular fibers. The number of fibers is sufficient to account for the micro structure statistics of composite. A new method based on the multipole expansion technique is developed to obtain the exact series solution for the micro stress field. The method combines the principle of superposition, technique of complex potentials and some new results in the theory of special functions. A proper choice of potentials and new results for their series expansions allow one to reduce the boundary-value problem for the multiple-connected domain to an ordinary, well-posed set of linear algebraic equations. This reduction provides high numerical efficiency of the developed method. Exact expressions for the components of the effective stiffness tensor have been obtained by analytical averaging of the strain and stress fields.     

非线性Schrdinger方程的高精度守恒差分格式

本文首先分析线性Schrodinger方程一种高阶差分格式的构造方法,得到方程的耗散项.在此基础上对三次非线性Schrodinger方程,提出了一种精度为O(r2 h2)的差分格式,证明了该格式保持了连续方程的两个守恒量,且是收敛的与稳定的.并通过数值例子与已有隐格式进行了比较,结果表明,本文格式在计算量类似的情况下,提高了数值精度.     

γ-辐照对纯Y_2SiO_5和Eu~(3+)∶Y_2SiO_5晶体光谱性能的影响

研究了γ-辐照前后纯Y2SiO5和Eu3+掺杂的Y2SiO5晶体吸收光谱的变化,辐照后,未退火和氢气退火的纯Y2SiO5晶体在260~270 nm和320 nm波段产生了附加吸收峰,分别是由F心和O-心的吸收引起的;经过空气退火的纯YSO晶体中,由于消除了氧空位,因此辐照后没有出现色心吸收峰。在Eu3+∶Y2SiO5晶体中,不但有相同的F心和O-心吸收峰,而且还有Eu2+离子在300 nm和390 nm的吸收峰。随着辐照剂量的增加,色心附加吸收峰增强。空气退火能减少Eu3+∶Y2SiO5晶体中的色心,而氢气退火能增加色心。     

对流扩散方程的一种新型差分格式

对流扩散方程可以描述众多的物理化学现象，因而对其寻求稳定的，实用的数值解法有着重要的现实意义。本文针对形式较一般的一维非定常对流扩散方程，构造了对角元严格占优的Crank-Nicholson差分格式，然后对其分别用分离变量的方法以及能量估计的方法作了稳定性的分析，最后给出了数值试验的结果，数值结果表明本文构造的格式能够较好的处理经典的Crank-Nicholson格式所不能处理的对流项系数较大的对流扩散方程，并具有较好的精度。     

A parallel cell‐based DSMC method on unstructured adaptive meshes

A parallel DSMC method based on a cell‐based data structure is developed for the efficient simulation of rarefied gas flows on PC‐clusters. Parallel computation is made by decomposing the computational domain into several subdomains. Dynamic load balancing between processors is achieved based on the number of simulation particles and the number of cells allocated in each subdomain. Adjustment of cell size is also made through mesh adaptation for the improvement of solution accuracy and the efficient usage of meshes. Applications were made for a two‐dimensional supersonic leading‐edge flow, the axi‐symmetric Rothe's nozzle, and the open hollow cylinder flare flow for validation. It was found that the present method is an efficient tool for the simulation of rarefied gas flows on PC‐based parallel machines. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Implementation of an integrated glucose POCT system

In response to a change of the Belgian National Directives whereby hospital laboratories became responsible for all point-of-care testing (POCT) performed within hospital walls a standardized and automated POC glucose-testing system was implemented in our hospital. The system consists of 50 AccuCheck Inform instruments (Roche Diagnostics, Vilvoorde, Belgium), 50 docking stations, a DataCare Server, and connections to the medical laboratory information system (MOLIS, Sysmex, Barchon, Belgium) and to the hospital information system. Implementation involved many parties and extensive preparation and communication. Key issues were bar-coded patient and user identification, training, and responsibilities. One year after the hospital wide implementation of this system the quality of POC glucose testing has significantly increased, thereby improving patient safety. This study describes a stepwise change over involving the medical laboratory and with a focus on hands-on quality.Presented at the ninth conference on Quality in the Spotlight, 18–19 March 2004, Antwerp, Belgium.     

Standardization of BSE rapid test performances and experiences gathered during the implementation of large-scale testing

The accumulation of pathological prion protein is used as a diagnostic marker for transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. According to European Union (EU) regulations cattle older than 30 months of age (Germany, France, Italy, and Spain by national law >24 months) and slaughtered for human consumption must be tested by using rapid tests for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). Likewise fallen stock and clinically affected animals must be tested. This article gives a short overview of the incidence of BSE in Europe. The diagnostic hierarchy, i.e., the officially approved methodology for the confirmation of suspect rapid test cases, and the organization of the numerous laboratories involved in this large-scale testing for BSE are described. Special emphasis is given to necessary quality control measures currently in place for BSE rapid testing laboratories and to measures intended to assure a consistent performance of the commercially available rapid test kits.Presented at BERM-9—Ninth International Symposium on Biological and Environmental Reference Materials, 15–19 June 2003, Berlin, Germany.     

Error estimates for Hermite interpolation on spheres

In this paper, we prove convergence rates for spherical spline Hermite interpolation on the sphere S^d−1 via an error estimate given in a technical report by Luo and Levesley. The functionals in the Hermite interpolation are either point evaluations of pseudodifferential operators or rotational differential operators, the desirable feature of these operators being that they map polynomials to polynomials. Convergence rates for certain derivatives are given in terms of maximum point separation.     

A monotone iterative scheme for a nonlinear second order equation based on a generalized anti–maximum principle

In this paper, a generalized anti–maximum principle for the second order differential operator with potentials is proved. As an application, we will give a monotone iterative scheme for periodic solutions of nonlinear second order equations. Such a scheme involves the L^p norms of the growth, 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞, while the usual one is just the case p = ∞.
