Certain condition on the second fundamental form of CR submanifolds of maximal CR dimension of complex Euclidean space 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We treat m-dimensional real submanifolds M of complex space forms ̿M when the maximal holomorphic tangent subspace is (m−1)-dimensional. On these manifolds there exists an almost contact structure F which is naturally induced from the ambient space and in this paper we study the condition h(FX,Y)−h(X,FY) = g(FX,Y)η, η∊ T⊥(M), on the structure F and on the second fundamental form h of these submanifolds. Determination of contact stresses in problems on bending of a package of transversely isotropic bars

A mechanomathematical model for bending of packages of transversely isotropic bars of rectangular cross section is proposed. Adhesion, slippage, and separation zones between the bars are considered. The resolving equations for deflections and tangential displacements are supplemented with a system of linear differential equations for determining the normal and tangential contact stresses, and boundary conditions are formulated. A scheme for analytical solution of two contact problems—a package under the action of a distributed load and a round stamp—is considered. For these packages, a transition is performed from the initial system of differential equations for determining the contact stresses, where the unknown functions are interrelated by recurrent relationships, to one linear differential equation of fourth order and then to a system of linear algebraic equations. The standard view of mechanical adhesive contact is as a competition between a reduction in free energy when surfaces with bonding potential come into contact and an increase in free energy due to elastic deformation that is required to make these surfaces conform. An equilibrium state is defined by an incremental balance between these effects, akin to the Griffith crack growth criterion. In the case of adhesion of biological cells, the molecules that tend to form surface-to-surface bonds are confined to the cell wall but they are mobile within the wall, adding a new phenomenon of direct relevance to adhesive contact. In this article, the process of adhesive contact of an initially curved elastic plate to a flat surface is studied for the case in which the binders that account for adhesion are able to migrate within the plate. This is done by including entropic free energy of the binder distribution in the total free energy of the system. By adopting a constitutive assumption that binders migrate at a speed proportional to the local gradient in chemical potential, the transient growth of an adhesion zone due to binder transport is analyzed. For the case of a plate of very large extent, the problem can be solved in closed form, whereas numerical methods are invoked for the case of a plate of limited extent. Results are presented on the rate of growth of an adhesion zone in terms of system parameters, on the evolution of the distribution of binders and, in the case of a plate of limited extent, on the long-term limiting size of the adhesion zone. 相似文献

The direct preparation of grafting polymer brushes from commercial poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) films with surface‐initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is demonstrated. The direct initiation of the secondary fluorinated site of PVDF facilitated grafting of the hydrophilic monomers from the PVDF surface. Homopolymer brushes of 2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) and poly (ethylene glycol) monomethacrylate (PEGMA) were prepared by ATRP from the PVDF surface. The chemical composition and surface topography of the graft‐functionalized PVDF surfaces were characterized by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, attenuated total reflectance/Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy. A kinetic study revealed a linear increase in the graft concentration of poly[2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PDMAEMA) and poly[poly(ethylene glycol) monomethacrylate] (PPEGMA) with the reaction time, indicating that the chain growth from the surface was consistent with a controlled or living process. The living chain ends were used as macroinitiators for the synthesis of diblock copolymer brushes. The water contact angles on PVDF films were reduced by the surface grafting of DMAEMA and PEGMA. Protein adsorption experiments revealed a substantial antifouling property of PPEGMA‐grafted PVDF films and PDMAEMA‐grafted PVDF films in comparison with the pristine PVDF surface. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The research described in this paper presents a method for chemically modifying the surface of plant photosynthetic membranes
in such a way that electrical contact can be made. Colloidal platinum was prepared, precipitated directly onto thylakoid membranes
from aqueous solution, and entrapped on fiberglass filter paper. This composition of matter was capable of sustained simultaneous
photoevolution of hydrogen and oxygen when irradiated at any wavelength (400–700 nm) in the chlorophyll absorption spectrum.
Experimental data support the interpretation that part of the platinum metal catalyst is precipitated adjacent to the photosystem-I
reduction site of photosynthesis and that electron transfer occurs across the interface between photosystem I and the catalyst.
When contacted with metal electrodes, the thylakoid-platinum combination was capable of generating a sustained flow of current
through an external load resistor. Procedures for preparing this material and experimental data on its catalytic and electronic
properties are presented. Also presented is an analysis of the flow of photocurrent in terms of the interfacial electron transfer

The grafting method that has successfully been applied to methacrylic acid and liquid crystalline monomers was expanded to
prepare amphoteric carbon fiber surfaces using 2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate as monomer. The obtained carbon fiber surfaces were characterized by contact angle and ζ-potential
measurements. The expected basic behavior was not observed, instead an amphoteric character of the modified carbon fiber surface
was found. The fiber surfaces display a basic character in the acidic pH-range, while they are acidic in the alkaline part
of the pH-scale.
An important influence is derived from the amount of initiator used to graft the monomers onto the fibers. The smaller the
initiator concen-tration used during polymerization, the larger the amount of amino functionalities introduced to the carbon
fiber surface.
The wetting behavior versus water depends on the overall conformation of the immobilized polymer. During immersion into water
the polymer acts hydrophobic, while during emersion, a hydrophilic character is observed, probably derived from conformational
changes and swelling during the contact angle measure-ments in water.
