To study hydrodynamic behavior on thin shell high Mach number blast waves, experiments have been performed in which spatially tailored shock waves have been launched in a gas of clusters using an intense 35 fs laser pulse. The target medium was first modified by destroying clusters in specific locations using a spatially modulated laser focus. Under subsequent intense laser irradiation, the efficient absorption properties of the remaining clustered regions compared to those regions with no clusters led to a pattern of hot and cold plasma resulting in a cylindrical blast wave with a periodic modulation imprinted on the shock front. This technique may provide a method for studying thin shell instabilities in strongly radiative blast waves. 相似文献

We are concerned with the problem of recovering edges of piecewise smooth functions with finitely many jump discontinuities. In a series of papers, Gelb and Tadmor presented computationally simple methods for this task that are based on the conjugate Fourier series with different concentration kernels. In this article we present experimental results comparing conjugate series based methods with a new approach based on polynomial filters and suitable approximations. The stability of phase transition fronts in water flows through porous media is considered. In the short-wave approximation a linear stability analysis is carried out and a sufficient condition of hydrodynamic instability of the phase discontinuity is proposed. The problem of injection of a water-vapor mixture into a two-dimensional mixture-saturated formation is solved and its numerical solution is compared with an exact solution of the corresponding one-dimensional self-similar problem. It is discovered that, instead of the unstable discontinuities in the one-dimensional formulation, in the two-dimensional case a lengthy mixing zone with a characteristic scale that increases self-similarly with time is formed. 相似文献

The self-similar problem of the oblique interaction between a slow MHD shock wave and a tangential discontinuity is solved within the framework of the ideal magnetohydrodynamic model. The constraints on the initial parameters necessary for the existence of a regular solution are found. Various feasible wave flow patterns are found in the steady-state coordinate system moving with the line of intersection of the discontinuities. As distinct from the problems of interaction between fast shock waves and other discontinuities, when the incident shock wave is slow the state ahead of it cannot be given and must to be determined in the process of solving the problem. As an example, a flow in which the slow shock wave incident on the tangential discontinuity is generated by an ideally conducting wedge located in the flow is considered. We study Alfvén discontinuities for the equations of ideal compressible magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). The Alfvén discontinuity is a characteristic discontinuity for the hyperbolic system of the MHD equations but, as for shock waves, the gas crosses its front. By numerical testing of the Lopatinskii condition, we carry out spectral stability analysis, i.e. we find the parameter domains of stability and violent instability of planar Alfvén discontinuities. We also show that Alfvén discontinuities can be only weakly stable in the sense that the uniform Lopatinskii condition is never satisfied. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

This paper is the second part of the article and is devoted to the construction and analysis of new non-linear optimal weights for WENO interpolation capable of rising the order of accuracy close to discontinuities for data discretized in the cell averages. Thus, now we are interested in analyzing the capabilities of the new algorithm when working with functions belonging to the subspace $L^1\cap L^2$ and that, consequently, are piecewise smooth and can present jump discontinuities. The new non-linear optimal weights are redesigned in a way that leads to optimal theoretical accuracy close to the discontinuities and at smooth zones. We will present the new algorithm for the approximation case and we will analyze its accuracy. In this paper, A numerical technique, called short-open calibration (SOC), in conjunction with edge-based finite element method (FEM) is employed to analyze millimeter wave circuit that can be segmented into two distinct section: static model of feedlines and dynamic model of circuit discontinuity. The derivation of reflection coefficient of 3D discontinuities is arranged in two steps. In the first step, this SOC technique is incorporated into the FEM for mesh truncation of computaional domain. In this way, much faster convergence is achieved for large-sparse linear matrix equations from FEM by this termination than by perfectly matching layers (PML). The field distribution of the dominated mode in uniform feedlines and entire circuit is obtained individually by exciting a pair of even and odd impressed voltages along the struture. In step two, Scattering parameters based on the voltages and current defintion is calculated by integral of electric and magnetic fields. Numerical solutions for a class of planar circuit discontuities are very well compared with those published in the available literatures. 相似文献
