Hamilton cycle rich two‐factorizations of complete graphs

For all integers n ≥ 5, it is shown that the graph obtained from the n‐cycle by joining vertices at distance 2 has a 2‐factorization is which one 2‐factor is a Hamilton cycle, and the other is isomorphic to any given 2‐regular graph of order n. This result is used to prove several results on 2‐factorizations of the complete graph K_n of order n. For example, it is shown that for all odd n ≥ 11, K_n has a 2‐factorization in which three of the 2‐factors are isomorphic to any three given 2‐regular graphs of order n, and the remaining 2‐factors are Hamilton cycles. For any two given 2‐regular graphs of even order n, the corresponding result is proved for the graph K_n ‐ I obtained from the complete graph by removing the edges of a 1‐factor. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Subduction of coset representations

Summary Enumerations of compounds based on a parent skeleton with and without the influence of obligatory minimum valency (OMV) are reported. The effect of the OMV is formulated by assigning different weights to the respective orbits of the parent skeleton. This type of enumeration requires introduction of several new concepts that are derived from the subduction of coset representations, e.g., a unit subduced cycle index, a subduced cycle index and the number of suborbits.

许多时间序列 ,例如资本数据等经济类时间序列 ,是由众多错综复杂因素共同作用的结果 ,存在着种种线性和非线性作用机制 ,频谱分析及其种种变形不应该是这些时间序列周期分析的合适工具 ,R/S分析因为不象频谱分析那样有正弦或余弦的假设 ,因而具有明显的优势 .通过对上证指数的 R/S分析 ,发现上证指数具有长程正相关和大约 5个月一个周期的特点 .     

The existence of even cycles with specific lengths in Wenger’s graph

Wenger＇s graph Hm（q） is a q-regular bipartite graph of order 2qm constructed by using the mdimensional vector space Fq^m over the finite field Fq. The existence of the cycles of certain even length plays an important role in the study of the accurate order of the Turan number ex（n; C2m） in extremal graph theory. In this paper, we use the algebraic methods of linear system of equations over the finite field and the “critical zero-sum sequences” to show that： if m ≥ 3, then for any integer l with l ≠ 5, 4 ≤ l ≤ 2ch（Fq） （where ch（Fq） is the character of the finite field Fq） and any vertex v in the Wenger＇s graph Hm（q）, there is a cycle of length 21 in Hm（q） passing through the vertex v.     

On cyclically orientable graphs

Graph G is called cyclically orientable (CO) if it admits an orientation in which every simple chordless cycle is cyclically oriented. This family of graphs was introduced by Barot et al. [Cluster algebras of finite type and positive symmetrizable matrices, J. London Math. Soc. (3) 73 (2006) 545-564]. The authors obtained several nice characterizations of CO-graphs, being motivated primarily by their applications in cluster algebras. Here we obtain several new characterizations that provide algorithms for recognizing CO-graphs and obtaining their cyclic orientations in linear time. We show that the edge maximal CO-graphs are 2-trees; that is, G=(V,E) is a 2-tree if and only if G is CO and G^′=(V,E^′) is not CO whenever E is a proper subset of E^′.     

The Indian auto component industry – Estimation of operational efficiency and its determinants using DEA

In this paper, the performance analysis of the Indian auto component industry is carried out from the perspectives of an original equipment manufacturer and a component supplier. Various efficiency measures are estimated using Data Envelopment Analysis with publicly available financial data on a representative sample of 50 firms. The first stage analysis reveals various operational inefficiencies in the auto component industry which are subsequently decomposed into technical, input mix and scale efficiencies. The study finds evidence that a majority of the inefficient firms are operating in the diminishing returns to scale region and demonstrates potential savings through benchmark input targets. A second stage analysis aimed at exploring root causes of inefficiencies finds that substitution of labour for capital could be causing a variety of inefficiencies including the input mix inefficiency in the Indian component industry. The empirical results also suggest that, unlike the global auto supply chain, higher average inventories are required for higher operational efficiencies in the Indian context. Contrary to the popular expectations, the technology licensing does not show significant influence on efficiency, at least in the short term, whereas efficient working capital management does result in higher operational efficiencies. The study also unearths the need to reform labour laws which are significantly contributing to various inefficiencies in the Indian component industry.     

Reactor physic and reprocessing scheme for innovative molten salt reactor system

The molten salt reactor is one of the six concepts retained by the Generation IV forum in 2001. Based on the MSRE and MSBR concepts developed by ORNL in the 60s which involve a liquid fuel constituted of fluorine molten salt at a temperature close to 600 °C, new developments with innovative approach and technology have been realized which contribute to strongly improve the concept. The thorium breeder potentiality is closely related to the use of a liquid fuel which is able to be periodically treated. A reprocessing scheme has been established to treat used fuel by extraction of fission products. According to the Gen IV philosophy for closed cycle nuclear reactor, the actinides are sent back in the reactor core. In this way, the wastes radiotoxicity is strongly decreased and the use of natural resource is optimized. This paper describes an innovative reactor concept, the TMSR-NM (non-moderated thorium molten salt reactor), from the nuclear physic point of view and the different steps involving in the reprocessing scheme from the chemical point of view.     

Line graphs of complete multipartite graphs have small cycle double covers

It has been shown by MacGillivray and Seyffarth (Austral. J. Combin. 24 (2001) 91) that bridgeless line graphs of complete graphs, complete bipartite graphs, and planar graphs have small cycle double covers. In this paper, we extend the result for complete bipartite graphs, and show that the line graph of any complete multipartite graph (other than K_1,2) has a small cycle double cover.     

FROM THE GOLDEN AGE TO THE NEW INDUSTRIAL AGE: FISHERY MODELING IN THE EARLY 21ST CENTURY

ABSTRACT. If the Golden Age of fishery modeling is over, the New Industrial Age is beginning. In this new age (the early decades of the 21st century), we¹ expect to see increasing use of high‐level modeling tools, assessments closely tailored to each stock and its data, more multi‐agency collaboration, wider use of multiple‐model assessments, and extensive peer review of stock assessments. We hope that fishery management, as well, will be seen as a proper object of peer review, from which it should benefit substantially. We believe that increasing attention will be paid to financial efficiency, both in shaping data collection programs and in specifying what information must be modeled to effect management. If presently depleted stocks start to recover, analysts will be required to examine in more detail the dynamics of increasing stocks. That would constitute a pleasant duty, and one that may yield new insights in population biology.
