Synthesis and Photochemical Properties of a New Substituted Phenol Covalently Linked to Ruthenium （Ⅱ） Tris-bipyridine Containing Four Ester Groups as Sensitizer

As photosensitizer for solar cell, a new ruthenium (Ⅱ) complex with four ester groups had been synthesized, in which a phenol substituted by {[(2-hydroxy-5-tert-butylbenzyl)(pyridyl-2-methyl)amino]methyl} is covalently linked to ruthenium (Ⅱ) tris-bipyridine. The structures of the new compounds were confirmed by NMR and ESI-MS spectra. The electrochemical and photochemical properties were also studied.     

Continuous dependence on modelling for a complex Ginzburg–Landau equation with complex coefficients

Continuous dependence on a modelling parameter is established for solutions of a problem for a complex Ginzburg–Landau equation. A homogenizing boundary condition is also used to discuss the continuous dependence results. We derive a priori estimates that indicate that solutions depend continuously on a parameter in the governing differential equation. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Ground-state complex formation of perylene with pyromellitic dianhydride studied by static fluorescence quenching

The association of complex formation with static quenching in CT systems was investigated. Evaluation of the data made evident that the inner filter effect must be allowed for. Time-resolved and temperature-dependent stationary measurements of fluorescence led to the separation of dynamic and static quenching components. The static quenching constant is discussed with respect to the equilibrium constant of complex formation determined by absorption spectroscopy.     

Spectral Theory for Slowly Oscillating Potentials II. Schrödinger Operators

This paper continues the investigation about the singularity theory in dual rich quasi–Banach spaces given in T. Runst [Ru 2]. The abstract results are applied to the study of the solution structure of semilinear elliptic boundary value problems in spaces of Besov – Triebel – Lizorkin type.

松纵坑切梢小蠹虫害的仿真模型与生态防治的优化策略

根据松纵坑切梢小蠹的主要生物学特征,通过分析抚育间伐持续控制松纵坑切梢小蠹虫害的机理,应用复杂适应系统(CA S)理论,建立了模拟松纵坑切梢小蠹虫害的一种动态演化数学模型,并讨论了模型的收敛性.然后选用昆明小哨林场为背景,进行了各种抚育间伐决策的仿真,从中优选抚育间伐决策.结果表明:模拟优化方案与实际调查统计分析结果一致:均为弱度间伐与中弱度间伐控制蠹害效果最好.最后通过森林积材量与虫害程度之间的优化,给出了抚育间伐的优化策略.     

Complex Behaviors of a Simple Traffic Model

In this paper, we propose a modified traffic model in which a single car moves through a sequence of traffic lights controlled by a step function instead of a sine function. In contrast to the previous work [Phys. Rev. E 70 (2004)016107], we have investigated in detail the dependence of the behavior on four parameters, ω, α, η, and a1, and given three kinds of bifurcation diagrams, which show three kinds of complex behaviors. We have found that in this model there are chaotic and complex periodic motions, as well as special singularities. We have also analyzed the characteristic of the complex period motion and the essential feature of the singularity.

Trovacene Chemistry. 13 [1] On Being Lead and Mislead in the Synthesis of Di([5]trovacenyl)ketone Di([5]trovacenyl)ketone ( 3¨ ) has been prepared from lithio‐[5]trovacene and dimethylcarbamoyl chloride and studied by X‐ray diffraction, cyclic voltammetry, magnetic susceptometry and EPR spectroscopy. Slight variation of the synthetic protocol affords an unusual trinuclear complex 5 ? that is also fully characterized. Spin‐spin exchange interaction is smaller in 3¨ than in 1,1‐di([5]trovacenylethene ( 2¨ ), which differs from 3¨ by a replacement of O for CH₂. The novel trinuclear complex 5 ? , however, displays exchange coupling very similar to that observed in 1‐methoxy‐2,5,6‐tri([5]trovacenyl)benzene ( 7 ? ). In both cases, an unsymmetrical triangular arrangement of S = 1/2 centers is encountered. These findings are discussed in terms of the nature of the respective spacers.     

Evolution in complex systems

What features characterize complex system dynamics? Power laws and scale invariance of fluctuations are often taken as the hallmarks of complexity, drawing on analogies with equilibrium critical phenomena. Here we argue that slow, directed dynamics, during which the system's properties change significantly, is fundamental. The underlying dynamics is related to a slow, decelerating but spasmodic release of an intrinsic strain or tension. Time series of a number of appropriate observables can be analyzed to confirm this effect. The strain arises from local frustration. As the strain is released through “quakes,” some system variable undergoes record statistics with accompanying log‐Poisson statistics for the quake event times. We demonstrate these phenomena via two very different systems: a model of magnetic relaxation in type II superconductors and the Tangled Nature model of evolutionary ecology and show how quantitative indications of aging can be found. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
