This paper examines the unsteady two‐dimensional flow of a second‐grade fluid between parallel disks in the presence of an applied magnetic field. The continuity and momentum equations governing the unsteady two‐dimensional flow of a second‐grade fluid are reduced to a single differential equation through similarity transformations. The resulting differential system is computed by a homotopy analysis method. Graphical results are discussed for both suction and blowing cases. In addition, the derived results are compared with the homotopy perturbation solution in a viscous fluid (Math. Probl. Eng., DOI: 10.1155/2009/603916 ). The nonlinear attitude motion of gyrostat satellites in a central force field is investigated, with particular emphasis on their long-time dynamic behavior for a wide range of parameters. The numbers of equilibrium solutions, as well as their stability, vary with the rotor speed, and bifurcation diagrams have been obtained. Various dynamic behaviors of gyrostat satcllites, e.g. periodic, quasiperiodic, and chaotic, are studied via the Poincaré map technique. It is shown that the rotor speed has a significant effect on the dynamic behavior of gyrostat satellites.  相似文献

A rigorous approach of nonlinear continuum mechanics is used to derive nonlinear wave equations that describe the propagation and interaction of hyperelastic cylindrical waves. Nonlinearity is introduced by means of metric coefficients, the Cauchy—Green strain tensor, and the Murnaghan potential and corresponds to the quadratic nonlinearity of all basic relationships. Quadratically nonlinear wave equations are derived for three states (configurations): (i) axisymmetric configuration dependent on the radial and axial coordinates and independent of the angular coordinate, (ii) configuration dependent on the angular coordinate, and (iii) axisymmetric configuration dependent on the radial coordinate. Four ways of introducing physical and geometrical nonlinearities to the wave equations are analyzed. A boundary integral method was developed for simulating the motion and deformation of a viscous drop in an axisymmetric ambient Stokes flow near a rigid wall and for direct calculating the stress on the wall. Numerical experiments by the method were performed for different initial stand-off distances of the drop to the wall, viscosity ratios, combined surface tension and buoyancy parameters and ambient flow parameters. Numerical results show that due to the action of ambient flow and buoyancy the drop is compressed and stretched respectively in axial and radial directions when time goes. When the ambient flow action is weaker than that of the buoyancy the drop raises and bends upward and the stress on the wall induced by drop motion decreases when time advances. When the ambient flow action is stronger than that of the buoyancy the drop descends and becomes flatter and flatter as time goes. In this case when the initial stand-off distance is large the stress on the wall increases as the drop evolutes but when the stand-off distance is small the stress on the wall decreases as a result of combined effects of ambient flow, buoyancy and the stronger wall action to the flow. The action of the stress on the wall induced by drop motion is restricted in an area near the symmetric axis, which increases when the initial stand-off distance increases. When the initial stand-off distance increases the stress induced by drop motion decreases substantially. The surface tension effects resist the deformation and smooth the profile of the drop surfaces. The drop viscosity will reduce the deformation and migration of the drop.  相似文献

The initial boundary-value linear stability problem for small localised axisymmetric disturbances in a homogeneous elastic wave guide, with the free upper surface and the lower surface being rigidly attached to a half-space, is formally solved by applying the Laplace transform in time and the Hankel transforms of zero and first orders in space. An asymptotic evaluation of the solution, expressed as a sum of inverse Laplace-Hankel integrals, is carried out by using the approach of the mathematical formalism of absolute and convective instabilities. It is shown that the dispersion-relation function of the problem D0 (κ, ω), where the Hankel parameter κ is substituted by a wave number (and the Fourier parameter) κ, coincides with the dispersion-relation function D0 (k, ω) for two-dimensional (2-D) disturbances in a homogeneous wave guide, where ω is the frequency (and the Laplace parameter) in both cases. An analysis for localised 2-D disturbances in a homogeneous wave guide is then applied. We obtain asymptotic expressions for wave packets, triggered by axisymmetric perturbations localised in space and finite in time, as well as for responses to axisymmetric sources localised in space, with the time dependence satisfying eiω0t + O(e−εt) for t → ∞, where Im ω0 = 0, ε > 0, and t denotes time, i.e. for signalling with frequency ω0. We demonstrate that, for certain combinations of physical parameters, axisymmetric wave packets with an algebraic temporal decay and axisymmetric signalling with an algebraic temporal growth, as √t, i.e., axisymmetric temporal resonances, are present in a neutrally stable homogeneous wave guide. The set of physically relevant wave guides having axisymmetric resonances is shown to be fairly wide. Furthermore, since an axisymmetric part of any source is L2-orthogonal to its non-axisymmetric part, a 3-D signalling with a non-vanishing axisymmetric component at an axisymmetric resonant frequency will generally grow algebraically in time. The paper presents a technique for thermoelastoplastic stress–strain analysis of flexible laminated shells of revolution under complex axisymmetric loading. The constitutive deformation equations are used to describe loading along arbitrary plane paths. The problem is solved by the method of successive approximations. A series of axisymmetric solid-of-revolution elements with 8-node and quadrilateral cross section have been developed based on the assumed stress hybrid model. A quadratic boundary displacement assumption is employed for each element and a variety of interior stress assumptions have been made. Two different kinds of procedure used for developing stress field have been studied. Example problems of a thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure and a thick-walled sphere under internal pressure are utilized to evaluate the various elements and a desirable stress assumption has been identified. Comparisons of present results with those obtained by the use of 8-node element based on the assumed displacement model indicate that this hybrid stress element is far superior in predicting the stress distribution.  相似文献
