Summary The successful application of the formerly presented concept of diffusion-averaged molecular weight, Md, to vacuum residues of crude oils, or their fractions, is described. The samples for establishing the calibration curve, logDvs. logM, were crude oil fractions with polydispersities smaller than 1.1. In a surprisingly good approximation the calibration curve is independent of the origin of these fractions if 500<M<10000. The validity of our calibration curve was demonstrated with more than 10 crude oil residues and with some of their hydrogenation residues [2].  相似文献

Summary Recent developments in computing and in the theory of simulation have extended greatly the successes of the modelling of ionic crystals pioneered by Mott and Littleton. This has changed the way in which computer experiments are brought to bear on an increasing range of solid-state phenomena. Yet applied science creates new demands, both in the form of new types of system and in terms of the complexity and subtlety of what is studied. The author's brief survey looks at some of the successes and gaps from interfaces and catalysts to neurotransmitters and from superconductors to slags.  相似文献

The Taylor–Aris chromatographic technique was employed for the determination of diffusion coefficients of 2-fluoroanisole, 2-bromoanisole, allylbenzene and 1,3-divinylbenzene at infinite dilution in supercritical carbon dioxide from 313.16 to 333.16 K and pressures between 15 and 35 MPa. As expected, the diffusivities rise when temperature increases and pressure decreases. Numerous predictive equations are compared with experimental data: Lai–Tan, Liu–Ruckenstein cluster formula, Woerlee, Hippler–Schubert–Troe, Catchpole–King, Eaton–Akgerman, He, He–Yu, Liu–Silva–Macedo, Funazukuri and coworkers, Dariva–Coelho–Oliveira, Zhu–Lu–Zhou–Wang–Shi and the Liu–Ruckenstein RHS formula. The equations of He, He–Yu and Catchpole–King are the best of all, but cannot be used in the whole range of temperatures and solvent densities.  相似文献

Monte Carlo simulations, experimental titrations and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy experiments were used to investigate the conformational and electrical properties of polyacrylic acids (PAA). On the one hand, titration curves were calculated to get an insight into the role of pH on the degree of ionization and conformation of PAA chains. On the other hand, experimental potentiometric titrations of PAA were also achieved for different PAA molecular weights and compared to the calculated titration curves obtained by Monte Carlo coarse grained simulations. It was found that for a large range at intermediate PAA ionizations, a good correlation is obtained between experimental and simulations data thanks to the prominence of electrostatic interactions in this domain. The effect of ionic concentration and PAA molecular weight on the titration curves was also investigated. In order to get a better understanding of PAA conformational behavior, we also investigated PAA diffusion properties in aqueous solutions as a function of pH and ionic strength by fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), thanks to its high sensitivity to measure diffusion coefficients of tracer solutes. Good qualitative agreements were observed between experimental diffusivities and polymer properties calculated from MC simulations. It was shown that the high molecular weight PAA chains display more significant changes in diffusivity in agreement with the ionization degrees and conformational changes observed in the simulations.  相似文献

Short-term solid-phase microextraction (SPME) was performed to test a recently proposed semi-empirical model for the prediction of concentrations of analyte in water samples from the fibre-extracted mass without further calibration. The mass uptake rates obtained for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and p-xylene (BTEX) differ considerably from the before published, showing that interfibre comparability is a serious issue. The relative prediction errors are between -55% for benzene and +82% for p-dichlorobenzene under optimal conditions, i.e. they are by an order of magnitude higher than originally published. A sensitivity analysis shows the dominant influence of the estimated thickness of the diffusional boundary layer around the fibre on the concentration predicted. Empirical modification of the model equation for this parameter yields satisfactory results under the conditions tested for both BTEX and the selected chlorobenzenes.  相似文献

The fluorescence method was used to study the interdiffusion of polymer chains during annealing of latex above its glass transition temperature (Tg). The latex film was prepared from mixture of naphthalene (N) (donor) and pyrene (P) (acceptor)-labeled poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) latex particles. Heptane was used as the coalescent agent. A steady-state fluorescence technique was employed to measure the amount of direct nonradiative energy transfer from N to P during the interdiffusion of polymer chains across the particle–particle junction. Various latex films with different latex contents were used to measure the percentage critical occupation for the reliable steady-state fluorescence measurements. Diffusions activation energies in these latex films were measured and found to be around 30 kcal/mol, which was attributed to the backbone motion of PMMA chains.  相似文献

Li4Ti5O12 thin films for rechargeable lithium batteries were prepared by a sol-gel method with poly(vinylpyrrolidone). Interfacial properties of lithium insertion into Li4Ti5O12 thin film were examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiostatic intermittent titration technique (PITT). Redox peaks in CV were very sharp even at a fast scan rate of 50 mV s−1, indicating that Li4Ti5O12 thin film had a fast electrochemical response, and that an apparent chemical diffusion coefficient of Li+ ion was estimated to be 6.8×10−11 cm2 s−1 from a dependence of peak current on sweep rates. From EIS, it can be seen that Li+ ions become more mobile at 1.55 V vs. Li/Li+, corresponding to a two-phase region, and the chemical diffusion coefficients of Li+ ion ranged from 10−10 to 10−12 cm2 s−1 at various potentials. The chemical diffusion coefficients of Li+ ion in Li4Ti5O12 were also estimated from PITT. They were in a range of 10−11-10−12 cm2 s−1.  相似文献

In many polymers under corrosive liquids, degradation followed after permeation of environmental solution for a long period. The permeation rate of environmental solution, in many cases, is very low in corrosion-resistant polymeric materials. Therefore, the observation of the permeation of environmental solution and degradation of polymeric materials are very difficult in practical application. A simulation of permeation of solution is required in order to understand the permeation behavior of environmental solution and polymer degradation. A detailed analysis of the permeation behavior of solution accompanied by chemical reaction is important to study for improving the lifetime of polymers. Polyamide 66 (PA66) and sulfuric acid solution were used to investigate the quantitative study of permeation of environmental solution and its relation to degradation of polymeric materials. Correlation between diffusion process and degradation of PA66 related to the decrease of weight average molecular weight was defined. The diffusion rate of sulfuric acid solution was found to increase by decreasing weight average molecular weight of PA66 due to the established chain scission by hydrolysis reaction. The permeation of sulfuric acid solution that affected the decomposition reaction was modeled and quantitative evaluation of permeation of sulfuric acid was established.  相似文献

The behavior of water in close proximity to other materials under ambient conditions is of great significance due to its importance in a broad range of daily applications and scientific research. The structure and dynamics of water at an interface or in a nanopore are often significantly different from those of its bulk counterpart. Until recently, experimental access to these interfacial water structures was difficult to realize. The advent of two-dimensional materials, especially graphene, and the availability of various scanning probe microscopies were instrumental to visualize, characterize and provide fundamental knowledge of confined water. This review article summarizes the recent experimental and theoretical progress in a better understanding of water confined between layered Van der Waals materials. These results reveal that the structure and stability of the hydrogen bonded networks are determined by the elegant balance between water-surface and water-water interactions. The water-surface interactions often lead to structures that differ significantly from the conventional bilayer model of natural ice. Here, we review the current knowledge of water adsorption in different environments and intercalation within various confinements. In addition, we extend this review to cover the influence of interfacial water on the two-dimensional material cover and summarize the use of these systems in potential novel applications. Finally, we discuss emerged issues and identify some flaws in the present understanding.  相似文献
