A sequential injection method (SIA) for carbon speciation in inland bathing waters was developed comprising, in a single manifold, the determination of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), free dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2), total carbon (TC), dissolved organic carbon and alkalinity. The determination of DIC, CO2 and TC was based on colour change of bromothymol blue (660 nm) after CO2 diffusion through a hydrophobic membrane placed in a gas diffusion unit (GDU). For the DIC determination, an in-line acidification prior to the GDU was performed and, for the TC determination, an in-line UV photo-oxidation of the sample prior to GDU ensured the conversion of all carbon forms into CO2. Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) was determined by subtracting the obtained DIC value from the TC obtained value. The determination of alkalinity was based on the spectrophotometric measurement of bromocresol green colour change (611 nm) after reaction with acetic acid. The developed SIA method enabled the determination of DIC (0.24–3.5 mg C L−1), CO2 (1.0–10 mg C L−1), TC (0.50–4.0 mg C L−1) and alkalinity (1.2–4.7 mg C L−1 and 4.7–19 mg C L−1) with limits of detection of: 9.5 μg C L−1, 20 μg C L−1, 0.21 mg C L−1, 0.32 mg C L−1, respectively. The SIA system was effectively applied to inland bathing waters and the results showed good agreement with reference procedures.  相似文献

There is an ongoing debate regarding the mechanism of Pt electrochemical dissolution. However, only off-line methods have so far been used, where separation of Pt species is performed separately from their detection. In this study, ion exchange chromatography coupled to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used for the first time to separate and detect Pt species generated by the electro-dissolution of a Pt electrode in 0.5 M aqueous H2SO4 solution. Because these species are either neutral or cationic, they were converted to chloro-complexes using 0.1 M KCl to enable their separation by anion exchange chromatography. Chloro-aqua complexes were observed in addition to the two predominant species, namely PtCl42− and PtCl62−. A good linear relationship was observed between the sum of peak areas for all complexes of a given Pt oxidation state and the Pt concentration, with a detection limit of 0.1 μg L−1 being reached for Pt(II) and Pt(IV). Application of this speciation analysis method to real samples generated by potential cycling using cyclic voltammetry (CV) revealed that, in general, at least 80% of Pt was present as Pt(II), irrespectively of the cyclic potential range or of temperature (up to 60 °C). Still, quantitative spike recovery was achieved after adding known amounts of Pt(II) or Pt(IV) to a sample prepared by CV, which demonstrated that no significant species inter-conversion took place.  相似文献

A sequential extraction procedure (three-step), proposed by the Standards, Measurements and Testing Programme (formerly BCR) of the European Union, was applied to street dust and spiked soil samples for the determination of PGEs. Analyses were carried out using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The results indicate that up to 5% from Pt, 70% from Pd and 14% from Rh are in mobile forms in street dust. The results for the soil samples spiked with crushed catalytic converter are significantly lower indicating that PGEs are oxidised more efficiently in natural conditions. Additionally Pt and Pd bound to humic acids were investigated.  相似文献

In this article, the contents and distribution of total chromium, Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in various cigarettes and cigarette ashes were determined by using a cloud point extraction (CPE) separation/preconcentration combined with graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometric (GFAAS) detection. Different extraction reagents, such as tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH), Na2HPO4, Na2CO3/NaOH, NaOH and H2O, were tested for the extraction of Cr species, and the extraction efficiency was estimated. The experimental results showed that TMAH was the most efficient extraction reagent for the analyte in cigarette samples. By using the established method, the total chromium, Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in various cigarettes and cigarette ashes were determined and their distribution was studied. It was found that Cr(III) is a main species in cigarettes, but that it can be partly oxidized to Cr(VI) during smoking.  相似文献

A simple and reliable method for Hg determination in fish samples has been developed. Lyophilised fish tissue samples were extracted in a 25% (w/v) tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) solution; the extracts were then analysed by FI-CVAFS. This method can be used to determine total and inorganic Hg, using the same FI manifold. For total Hg determination, a 0.1% (w/v) KMnO4 solution was added to the FI manifold at the sample zone, followed by the addition of a 0.5% (w/v) SnCl2 solution, whereas inorganic Hg was determined by adding a 0.1% (w/v) L-cysteine solution followed by a 1.0% (w/v) SnCl2 solution to the FI system. The organic fraction was determined as the difference between total and inorganic Hg. Sample preparation, reagent consumption and parameters that can influence the FI-CVAFS performance were also evaluated. The limit of detection for this method is 3.7 ng g?1 for total Hg and 4.3 ng g?1 for inorganic Hg. The relative standard deviation for a 1.0 µg L?1 CH3Hg standard solution (n = 20) was 1.1%, and 1.3% for a 1.0 µg L–1 Hg2+ standard solution (n = 20). Accuracy was assessed by the analysis of Certified Reference Material (dogfish: DORM-2, NRCC). Recoveries of 99.1% for total Hg and 93.9% inorganic Hg were obtained. Mercury losses were not observed when sample solutions were re-analysed after a seven day period of storage at 4°C.  相似文献

Twenty-five uncultivated surface soil samples collected from the northern and southern regions of Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ), industrial area of Bangladesh, were analyzed for their contents of Y, lanthanides and natural radionuclides (Th and U) using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). Analogous concentrations of the Y, lanthanides, Th and U were observed in the both regions of DEPZ around several kilometer distances. Further, the measured values showed no particular contamination. However, the concentrations of the light lanthanides (La, Ce and Nd) in the Bangladeshi soils were around twice the worldwide average value. But, the smooth curve of the chondrite normalized patterns of the lanthanides suggested that the lanthanide contents of the Bangladeshi soils in this area are the results of the natural dispersion process rather than anthropogenic activities. In addition, the relatively high Th and U concentrations and Th/U ratio were observed in Bangladeshi soils of this area, most likely due to the effect of their parent materials such as clay stones which have a high Th/U ratio. Since this is the first precise result for the Y, lanthanides, Th and U contents in Bangladeshi soils, it could be useful in understanding the background level and the characteristics of these elements in Bangladeshi soils.  相似文献

The use of microbial biomass in biosorption is already being studied as a potential alternative to (or combined with) conventional processes, where several algae and microorganisms have already shown promising ability to uptake metals. Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) are widespread organisms, with specific properties, such as high nutrient removal capacity and tolerance to highly variable conditions which make them well-suited for wastewater and remediation purposes. The main aim of this work was to evaluate the use of a marine cyanobacterium LEANCYA 21 (Synechocystis sp.), collected from the Portuguese southern border, for the removal of selected trace metals when in natural seawater culture medium. It was observed, for the first time, that this particular strain is capable of uptaking Pb, Ni and Zn (at nM levels) from seawater solutions using small amounts of biomass. Uptake values for Pb were up to 90% (0.75 mg g?1 biomass) in 6 h. The specific biosorption curves of Ni and Zn showed that these metals follow a first order kinetics biosorption in batch conditions. Solutions containing multimetals have revealed that Ni uptake is affected by the presence of Pb and Zn. The calculated specific absorption values were high enough to predict a possible application in aquaculture where such low levels of metals may inhibit microalgae growth.  相似文献

A simple, economic and sensitive method for selective determination of As(III) and As(V) in water samples is described. The method is based on selective coprecipitation of As(III) with Ce(IV) hydroxide in presence of an ammonia/ammonium buffer at pH 9. The coprecipitant was collected on a 0.45 µm membrane filter, dissolved with 0.5 mL of conc. nitric acid and the solution was completed to 2 or 5 mL with distilled water. As(III) in the final solutions was determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). Under the working condition, As(V) was not coprecipitated. Total inorganic arsenic was determined after the reduction of As(V) to As(III) with NaI. The concentration of As(V) was calculated by the difference of the concentrations obtained by the above determinations. Both the determination of arsenic with GF-AAS in presence of cerium and the coprecipitation of arsenic with Ce(IV) hydroxide were optimised. The suitability of the method for determining inorganic arsenic species was checked by analysis of water samples spiked with 4–20 µg L?1 each of As(III) and As(V). The preconcentration factor was found to be 75 with quantitative recovery (≥95%). The accuracy of the present method was controlled with a reference method based on TXRF. The relative error was under 5%. The relative standard deviations for the replicate analysis ( n?=?5) ranged from 4.3 to 8.0% for both As(III) and As(V) in the water samples. The limit of detection (3σ) for both As (III) and As(V) were 0.05 µg L?1. The proposed method produced satisfactory results for the analysis of inorganic arsenic species in drinking water, wastewater and hot spring water samples.  相似文献

Arsenic compounds were determined in extracts of branches, leaves and roots from plants growing in a mining contaminated area. The selected species were Dryopteris filix-max, Quercus pubescens, Dipsacus fullonum, Alnus glutinosa, Buxus sempervirens and Brachythecium cf. reflexum. Total arsenic content in the subsamples was analysed by ICPMS after acidic digestion. In general, concentrations in the plant parts followed the gradient roots?>?branches?>?leaves indicating that they are arsenic-resistant plants. Arsenic species were determined in water/methanol (9?+?1, v/v) extracts by HPLC-ICPMS. Different levels of organoarsenicals were found depending on plant part and plant species. Higher percentages of organoarsenic compounds were recorded in branches and leaves (up to 35% in the boxtree sample), than in roots (0.7–5.2% in the same plant species). The absence of organic arsenic species in the soil where the plants were collected and the low levels of organoarsenicals found in the roots, indicate that the studied plants have the ability to accumulate or synthesise organoarsenic compounds in relatively high percentages, and this information contributes to enlarge the knowledge of arsenic uptake and speciation in plants.  相似文献

The difference in toxicity between Cr(III) and Cr(VI) species is one of the main reasons for the recent developments in analytical procedures for their differentiate. Non-chromatographic methods offer highly convenient tools for this purpose and can be used as a fast and cheap alternative to the chromatographic processes. The present work overviews and discuss different non-chromatographic procedures for speciation of chromium in natural water samples such as coprecipitation, dialysis, solvent and solid phase extraction. This survey will attempt to cover the state of-the art from 2005 to 2010.  相似文献
