Seismic base isolation by nonlinear mode localization

Summary In this paper, the performance of a nonlinear base-isolation system, comprised of a nonlinearly sprung subfoundation tuned in a 1∶1 internal resonance to a flexible mode of the linear primary structure to be isolated, is examined. The application of nonlinear localization to seismic isolation distinguishes this study from other base-isolation studies in the literature. Under the condition of third-order smooth stiffness nonlinearity, it is shown that a localized nonlinear normal mode (NNM) is induced in the system, which confines energy to the subfoundation and away from the primary or main structure. This is followed by a numerical analysis wherein the smooth nonlinearity is replaced by clearance nonlinearity, and the system is excited by ground motions representing near-field seismic events. The performance of the nonlinear system is compared with that of the corresponding linear system through simulation, and the sensitivity of the isolation system to several design parameters is analyzed. These simulations confirm the existence of the localized NNM, and show that the introduction of simple clearance nonlinearity significantly reduces the seismic energy transmitted to the main structure, resulting in significant attenuation in the response. On the complexity of enumerating pseudo-intents

We investigate whether the pseudo-intents of a given formal context can efficiently be enumerated. We show that they cannot be enumerated in a specified lexicographic order with polynomial delay unless P=NP. Furthermore we show that if the restriction on the order of enumeration is removed, then the problem becomes at least as hard as enumerating minimal transversals of a given hypergraph. We introduce the notion of minimal pseudo-intents and show that recognizing minimal pseudo-intents is polynomial. Despite their less complicated nature, surprisingly it turns out that minimal pseudo-intents cannot be enumerated in output-polynomial time unless P=NP.     

Substitution and Solvent Effect of Some Substituted Hydroxy Schiff Bases

Abstract

The uv-vis spectra of eight ortho-hydroxy- andpara-hydroxy schiff bases were recorded in different solvents. Inductive and resonance effect of the substituents affect the electronic spectra of those molecules, while, intra-molecular hydrogen bond formation or breakage have little effect on the uv-visible spectra.

RS和GIS技术在新疆地质和矿产资源评价中的应用

发展宏观、快速、高效地资源管理及评价方法是开展现代地质找矿工作的需要，“3S”技术由于具有上述特点而在地质找矿领域得到越来越广泛的应用。本文针对新疆地质找矿现状，通过对“3S”技术特点的介绍，在以往新疆地质找矿工作的基础之上，系统的提出了在新疆运用RS和GIS技术建立遥感本底数据库及进行矿产资源评价、地质灾害预测的主要内容、方法，同时指出了存在的问题和发展前景。     

Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Thermoanalysis of Complex of Zn(Ⅱ) with Aminomethanesulfonic Acid-5-bromosalicylaldelyde Schiff Base

The title complex [Zn(L)(phen)(CH3OH)] (L= C8H6BrO4NS, aminomethanesulfonic acid 5-bromo-salicylaldelyde schiff base; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction method. The crystal belongs to monoclinic, space group P21/c with a = 1.8712(3), b = 1.38008(19), c = 0.83685(12) nm, β = 97.791 (2)°, Mr = 569.72, V = 2.1411(5)nm3,Z= 4, Dc = 1.767 g/cm3, μ = 3.151 mm-1, F(000) = 1144, the final R = 0.0402 and wR = 0.0885. The central Zn(Ⅱ) is six-coordinated by one nitrogen and two oxygen atoms from the Schiff base, two nitrogen atoms from 1,10-phenanthroline and one oxygen from methanol to form a distorted octahedral coordination geometry.     

Hadamard matrices of small order and Yang conjecture

We show that 138 odd values of n<10000 for which a Hadamard matrix of order 4n exists have been overlooked in the recent handbook of combinatorial designs. There are four additional odd n=191, 5767, 7081, 8249 in that range for which Hadamard matrices of order 4n exist. There is a unique equivalence class of near‐normal sequences NN(36), and the same is true for NN(38) and NN(40). This means that the Yang conjecture on the existence of near‐normal sequences NN(n) has been verified for all even n⩽40, but it still remains open. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Synthesis,Characterization and Mesomorphic Properties of New Rod-like Thiophene Based Liquid Crystals

Two new mesogenic homologous series of Schiff base esters, 2-[4-(4′-n-Alkoxy benzoyloxy) benzylidenamino] 3-cyno thiophine (Series-A) and Schiff base cinnamates, 2-[4-(4′-n-alkoxy cinnamoyloxy) benzylidenamino] 3-cyano thiophene (Series-B), comprising a thiophene moiety were synthesized. Structural elucidation was carried out using elemental analysis and spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, ¹H-NMR and ¹³C-NMR, and mass spectrometry. The mesomorphic properties and thermal stabilities of the title compounds were studied by using differential scanning calorimetry and optical polarizing microscopy. All the derivatives are mesomorphic in nature showing the nematic phase, and the higher members of Series-A show a smectic C phase whereas Series-B exhibits only the nematic mesophase. The mesomorphic properties of the present series are compared with other structurally related compounds.     

我国高端工程机械产业基地评选研究

分析了高端工程机械产业基地应具有的特点;给出了高端工程机械产业基地评选的基本原则;建立了合理的候选高端工程机械产业基地评价指标体系及评价方法,并将该方法应用于我国高端工程机械产业基地的评价与选择.研究结果表明:在国内高端工程机械行业已形成10个主要产业集群的情况下,若在全国范围内设立三个高端工程机械战略性新兴产业基地,则这些基地应分别在徐州、柳州和长沙组建.
