Stereoselective synthesis of (E)-N,N-diethyl-3-(imidazo[1,2-a]pyrid-2-yl)-2-(phenylsulfonyl)propenamide

The title compound, gem-amidovinylsulfone 3, was synthesized stereoselectively by aldolic condensation of N,N-diethylphenylsulfonylacetamide 1 on imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-2-carbaldehyde 2 adding Et₃N at the end. The X-ray crystal structure of 3 [C₂₀H₂₁N₃O₃S: M_r=383.5, monoclinic, P2₁, a=8.191(4) Å, b=21.132(2) Å, c=11.752(1) Å, β=96.40(2)°, V=2022(1) Å³, Z=4 (two molecules per asymmetric unit), D_calc=1.260 g cm⁻³, λ(Mo Kα)=0.71073 Å, μ=0.184 mm⁻¹, F(000)=808, T=293(2)K, R=0.059 for 5105 observed reflections with I≥2σ(I)] was determined, and confirmed the (E) configuration.     

Synthesis, Crystal and Magnetic Structures of the Sodium Ferrate (IV) Na4FeO4 Studied by Neutron Diffraction and Mössbauer Techniques

The alkali sodium ferrate (IV) Na₄FeO₄ has been prepared by solid-state reaction of sodium peroxide Na₂O₂ and wustite Fe_1−xO, in a molar ratio Na/Fe=4, at 400°C under vacuum. Powder X-ray and neutron diffraction studies indicate that Na₄FeO₄ crystallizes in the triclinic system P−1 with the cell parameters= a=8.4810(2) Å, b=5.7688(1) Å, c=6.5622(1) Å, α=124.662(2)°, β=98.848(2)°, γ=101.761(2)° and Z=2. Na₄FeO₄ is isotypic with the other known phases Na₄MO₄ (M=Ti, Cr, Mn, Co and Ge, Sn, Pb). The solid solution Na₄Fe_xCo_1−xO₄ exists for x=0-1 and we have followed the evolution of the cell parameters with x to determine the lattice parameters of the triclinic cell of Na₄FeO₄. A three-dimensional network of isolated FeO₄ tetrahedra connected by Na atoms characterizes the structure. This compound is antiferromagnetic below T_N=16 K. At 2 K the magnetic cell is twice the nuclear cell and the magnetic structure is collinear (μ_Fe=3.36(12) μ_B at 2 K). This black compound is highly hygroscopic. In water or on contact with the atmospheric moisture it is disproportionated in Fe³⁺ and Fe⁶⁺. The Mössbauer spectra of Na₄FeO₄ are fitted with one doublet (δ=− 0.22 mm/s, Δ=0.41 mm/s at 295 K) in the paramagnetic state and with a sextet at 8K. These parameters characterize Fe⁴⁺ high-spin in tetrahedral FeO₄ coordination.     

Reaction of cyclopentadienyllutetium anthracenide with azobenzene. Synthesis and molecular and crystal structure of the binuclear complex [C5H5(THF)Lu(μ−η2:η2−PhN—NPh)]2(THF)2 and its dynamic behavior in solution

The reaction of the cyclopentadienyllutetium anthracenide, C₅H₅Lu(C₁₄H₁₀)²⁻(THF)₂ (1), with azobenzene yielded the [C₅H₅(THF)Lu(μ−η²:η²−PhN—NPh)]₂(THF)₂ (2) binuclear complex. The structure of the reaction product was established by X-ray structural analysis. About Perrhenates. 3 On the Structure of the Mesoperrhenate Na₃[ReO₅] By tempering powder samples (prepared from mixtures of binary oxides: Na₂O₂/ReO₂ and Na₂O/ReO₃ respectively, Na : Re = 3 : 1, Ar and O₂ atmosphere respectively, 400–450°C, corundum boat) in a closed Ag cylinder (500–550°C, 10 d) yellow single crystals of Na₃ReO₅, sensitive to moisture, were grown. The compound crystallizes trigonal, space group P3₁, P3₂ respectively, with a = 5.544(1), c = 13.580(7) Å, Z = 3, d_rö. = 4.62 g/cm³. The crystal structure [4-circle diffractometer data, 1091 I₀(hkl), AgKα, R = 6.14, R_w = 6.08%] is characterized by “isolated” bipyramids ReO₅. Na⁺ ions are occupying all the tetrahedral (Na2, Na3) and octahedral (Na1) holes of the pseudocubic face centred (c/a = 2.441) Re part of the lattice; resulting in a Na₃Re kation framework corresponding to the Li₃Bi type of structure. Effective Coordination Numbers (ECoN), the Madelung Part of Lattice energy (MAPLE) and the charge distribution (CHARDI) are computed and discussed.

Reduced Clusters with Remarkable Topological and Electronic Properties of the Type of [V₁₈O₄₂(X)]^n? (X = SO₄, VO₄) with T_d-Symmetry and Related Clusters [V_(18—p)As_2pO₄₂(X)]^m? (X = SO₃, SO₄, H₂O; p = 3, 4) The novel cluster-compounds Na₆[V₁₈O₄₂H₉(VO₄)] · 21 H₂O, (NH₄)₈[V₁₈O₄₂(SO₄)] · 25 H₂O, K₆[V₁₅As₆O₄₂(H₂O)] · 8 H₂O, (NH₄)₆[V₁₄As₈O₄₂(SO₃)], (NH₄)₆[V₁₄As₈O₄₂(SO₄)] and [N(CH3)₃]₄[₄V₁₄As₈0₄₂(H₂0)] were prepared and characterized by IR- and UV/Vis/NIR-spectroscopy, magnetic measurements and complete crystal structure analysis. Topological relations to the rhombicuboctahedron spanned by 24 0-atoms of the genuine hypothetical a-Keggin ion, at which the square planes are capped by V?O or As₂O groups, are discussed. Of particular interest are the ?extended”? Keggin ions [V₁₈O₄₂(X)]ⁿ- (X = SO₄ VO₄), (formaly derived from the hypothetical genuine a-Keggin ion by addition of six V?O groups) which have quite different electron populations in spite of the same structure of their cluster shells.

Color Displays with Gel-Glass Dispersed Liquid Crystals

Liquid crystal microdroplets trapped into silica gel-glasses by sol-gel processes may be used for display applications. Gel-glass dispersed liquid crystals (GDLC) are switched between opaque and transparent states by applying external AC-voltage signals; no polarizers are required. The feasibility of applying these materials to colored displays has been explored. A comparative study of different dyes for GDLC color displays, which were either embedded in the sol-gel matrix or dissolved in the liquid crystal microdroplets is presented.     

SYNTHESIS OF A NOVEL "MESOGEN-JACKETED LIQUID CRYSTAL POLYMER" BASED ON VINYLTEREPHTHALIC ACID

Poly{2, 5- bis [ (p- methoxyphenyl ) oxycarbonyl] styrene } was successfully syn-thesized. This new polymer has a structure characteristic of mesogen-jacketed liquidcyrstalline polymers (MJLCPs) and does form a liquid crystal phase above its glass tran-sition. It thus became the starting member of a new series of MJLCPs. The synthesis ofthe polymer as well as the liquid crystalline properties of the polymer and its monomerwas discussed. A brief comparison of the new monomer and polymer with some previouslyreported counterparts was also included.     

Thermal stability and crystal structure of potassium fluoride monoperoxosolvate KF·H2O2

Potassium fluoride peroxosolvate KF-H₂O₂ was obtained upon action of a 30% aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide on solid potassium fluoride dihydrate. As compared to other peroxosolvates, KF-H₂O₂ is characterized by the highest thermal stability: the decomposition rate constantk ₁, at 120°C is 1.4 10^–3 min^–1, the enthalpy of H₂O₂ addition to KF is 8.1 kcal/ mol. The correlation between the high stability of KF-H₂O₂ and the absence of catalytic properties of KF towards H₂O₂, and the formation of strong intermolecular O-H...F and intramolecular O-H...O hydrogen bonds in the crystal is discussed.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk.
