Synthesis of chiral 2′,3′-pyranone(pyrrolidinone)-fused tryptamines

Chiral pyrano- and pyrrolidino-fused tryptamines were prepared by a diasteroselective trimolecular condensation between indole, Garner's aldehyde and Meldrum's acid, followed by selective functional group transformations.     

Quantum-Chemical Study of Structural and Energy Characteristics of Benzonitrile Dimers

Ab initio MP2 calculations with several basis sets proved the existence of a stable benzonitrile dimer with a planar structure and a short contact between the H atom of one molecule and the N atom of another. The structure is greatly stabilized by attraction between the neighboring oppositely directed dipoles and donor-acceptor interaction between the orbital of the lone electron pair of the N′ atom and the vacant antibonding orbital localized on the C-H bond.Original Russian Text Copyright © 2004 by O. Modified Coumarins. 9. Synthesis of Amino-Acid Derivatives of 3-(2,3,5-Trimethyl-7-oxofuro[3,2-g]chromen-6-yl)propanoic Acid

Furocoumarins modified by amino acids were prepared by condensation of the N-hydroxysuccinimide ester of 3-(2,3,5-trimethyl-7-oxofuro[3,2-g]chromen-6-yl)propanoic acid with amino acids.     

Fractional Derivatives Applied to Phase-Space Reconstructions

The concept and application of phase-space reconstructions are reviewed. Fractional derivatives are then proposed for the purpose of reconstructing dynamics from a single observed time history. A procedure is presented in which the fractional derivatives of time series data are obtained in the frequency domain. The method is applied to the Lorenz system. The ability of the method to unfold the data is assessed by the method of global false nearest neighbors. The reconstructed data is used to compute recurrences and correlation dimensions. The reconstruction is compared to the commonly used method of delays in order to assess the choice of reconstruction parameters, and also the quality of results.     

InCl3·4H2O Promoted Green Preparation of Xanthenedione Derivatives in Ionic Liquids

Xanthenediones derivatives have attracted considerable interests in recent times because they constitute a structural unit in a number of natural products1 and have been used as versatile synthons due to the inherent reactivity of the inbuilt pyran ring2. The conventional syntheses of xanthenediones were acid or base catalyzed condensation of appropriate active methylene carbonyl compounds with aldehydes3. However, many of these procedures involved longer reaction times,low yields and side reactions of aldehydes. In recent years, room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) have been used as novel green reaction media4. Considering that InCl3 is an efficient Lewis acid catalyst used in promoting many organic reactions, especially in several condensation processes, we herein wish to report a very simple and green method for the preparation of poly-hydrogenated xanthenediones through InCl3·4H2O promoted cascade reaction of aldehydes and 5,5-dimethyl-l,3-cyclohexanedione in ionic liquid,1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([bmim][BF4]). The preparative process presented here is operationally simple, environmentally benign and has the advantage of enhanced atom utilization. Furthermore, the solvent and the catalyst used can be recovered easily and reused efficiently.     

A new reaction of vicinal sulfonyliminocarboxylates with phosphites

The reaction of alkyl trifluoro(organylsulfonylimino)propionates with phosphites occurs with NC transfer of the RSO₂ group and leads to sulfonyl-substituted trifluoroalanine derivatives. The novel rearrangement is interpreted as cheletropic 1,4-cycloaddition of the phosphite and subsequent 1,2-shift of the sulfonyl group in the intermediate cyclic phosphorane.

A Modified SQP Method and Its Global Convergence

The sequential quadratic programming method developed by Wilson, Han andPowell may fail if the quadratic programming subproblems become infeasibleor if the associated sequence of search directions is unbounded. In [1], Hanand Burke give a modification to this method wherein the QP subproblem isaltered in a way which guarantees that the associated constraint region isnonempty and for which a robust convergence theory is established. In thispaper, we give a modification to the QP subproblem and provide a modifiedSQP method. Under some conditions, we prove that the algorithm eitherterminates at a Kuhn–Tucker point within finite steps or generates aninfinite sequence whose every cluster is a Kuhn–Tucker point.Finally, we give some numerical examples.     

Rapid and reproducible capillary electrophoretic separation of double-stranded DNA fragments in a simple methyl cellulosic sieving system

Summary A rapid, robust and reproducible method providing excellent separation performance and simplicity using a 0.5% MC-4000 methyl cellulosic sieving medium in DB-1 coated capillaries has been developed. The method is suitable for qualitative comparison of DNA restriction profiles for fragments in the size range 100–1000 base pairs (bp). Efficiencies up to 8.5 million plates/m (1057 bp fragment) were recorded. Peak resolution of 6 bp (291/297 bp, 335/341 bp) and 4 bp (238/242 bp, 341/345 bp) was achieved. In addition, 1 bp partial resolution of 123/124 bp and 298/297 bp was obtained. Run-to-run (n=15), day-to-day (n=4), and capillary-to-capillary (n=3) variations of 0.1–0.2% RSD, 0.3–0.5% RSD, and 0.1–0.3% RSD, respectively, were observed. The MC-4000 sieving matrix was found to be better than hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and hydroxypropyl cellulose, in terms of both performance and stability in the DB-1 coated capillaries. The efficiency and resolution in DB-WAX capillaries were inferior to those obtained in DB-1 capillaries. The commercially available DB-1 capillaries were stable for months in the sieving medium at pH 8.3 and could be regenerated to provide high efficiency after accidental current breaks.     

Substitution Reaction of Tetracyanoethylene with Acetone-Anils

The products from the condensation of acetone-anils ( 1 ) and TCNE reaction were characterized after separation. The main products, tricyanoethylene derivatives ( 7–9 ) were isolated with the malonodinitrile derivatives ( 10–12 ), respectively. The [2+2] cycloaddition product ( 13 ), namely 5-methoxy-3,4-(2′,2′,3′,3′-tetracyanocyclobutano)-l,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline also has been isolated. The distribution of these three products is substituent dependent.
