On essential extensions of reduced rings and domains

A ring is said to be a left essential extension of a reduced ring (domain) if it contains a left ideal which is a reduced ring (domain) and intersects nontrivially every nonzero twosided ideal of the ring. We prove that every ring which is a left essential extension of a reduced ring is a subdirect sum of rings which are essential extensions of domains, but the converse implication does not hold. We give some applications of this result and discuss several related questions.Received: 6 January 2003     

Small generators of number fields

If K is a number field of degree n over Q with discriminant D _K and if α∈K generates K, i.e. K=Q(α), then the height of α satisfies with . The paper deals with the existence of small generators of number fields in this sense. We show: (1) For each $n$ there are infinitely many number fields K of degree $n$ with a generator α such that . (2) There is a constant d ² such that every imaginary quadratic number field has a generator α which satisfies .?(3) If K is a totally real number field of prime degree n then one can find an integral generator α with . Growth and long-run stability

This paper analyses the implications of persistent growth upon the stability properties of dynamic models. Besides the traditional concept of asymptotic stability, new stability criteria-strong/weak absolute, strong/weak relative, strong/weak logarithmic stability-are introduced, and global stability conditions for satisfying these criteria are stated for general first-order autonomous differential equations. The conflict between rapidity of growth and the degree of stability is demonstrated. Economic applications of the stability theorems are illustrated within the growth models of Harrod and Solow.     

Optimal Domains for <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript>0</Superscript>-valued Operators Via Stochastic Measures

We study extension of operators T: E→ L⁰([0, 1]), where E is an F–function space and L⁰([0, 1]) the space of measurable functions with the topology of convergence in measure, to domains larger than E, and we study the properties of such domains. The main tool is the integration of scalar functions with respect to stochastic measures and the corresponding spaces of integrable functions. The semidirect products of finite cyclic groups that areI-E groups

AnI-E group is a group in which the endomorphism near-ring generated by the group's inner automorphisms equals the endomorphism near-ring generated by its endomorphisms. In this paper we shall completely determine the finite groups that are semidirect products of cyclic groups and areI-E groups.     

Symmetric bi-derivations on prime and semi-prime rings

Summary LetR be a ring. A bi-additive symmetric mappingD(.,.): R × R R is called a symmetric bi-derivation if, for any fixedy R, a mappingx D(x, y) is a derivation. The purpose of this paper is to prove some results concerning symmetric bi-derivations on prime and semi-prime rings. We prove that the existence of a nonzero symmetric bi-derivationD(.,.): R × R R, whereR is a prime ring of characteristic not two, with the propertyD(x, x)x = xD(x, x), x R, forcesR to be commutative. A theorem in the spirit of a classical result first proved by E. Posner, which states that, ifR is a prime ring of characteristic not two andD ₁,D ₂ are nonzero derivations onR, then the mappingx D ₁(D ₂ (x)) cannot be a derivation, is also presented.     

ZnO超微粒子光催化氧化降解n-C7H16的研究

利用ZnO光催化氧化技术对气相n-C7H16进行了降解研究，考察了氧气、水燕气体积分数等因素对n-C7H16光催化氧化的影响，利用气相色谱－质谱联用仪和气相色谱仪对气相光催化反应过程中的气体组成进行了定性分析，并对主要中间产物丙醛进行了定量分析，结果发现，ZnO超微粒子光催化氧化n-C7H16的降解率较高，n-C7H16绝大部分被完全氧化成CO2，探讨了n-C7H16光催化氧化反尖的动力学行为及机理。     

On copowers of an ordered skew field

It is shown that the double of an ordered skew fieldE over a subfieldK, which is its own bicentralizer, can again be ordered, and a corresponding result for groups is deduced.
