Ion/molecule reactions in a miniature RIT mass spectrometer

Ion/molecule reactions were explored in a newly developed miniature mass spectrometer fitted with a rectilinear ion trap (RIT) mass analyzer. The tandem mass spectrometry performance of this instrument is demonstrated using collision induced dissociation (CID) and ion/molecule reactions. The latter includes Eberlin transacetalization reactions and electrophilic additions. Selective detection of the chemical warfare simulant dimethyl methyl phosphonate (DMMP) was achieved through selective Eberlin reactions of its characteristic phosphonium fragment ion CH3OP(+)(O)CH3 (m/z 93), with 1,4-dioxane or 1,3-dioxolane. Efficient adduct formation as a result of electrophilic attack by the phosphonium ion on various nucleophilic reagents, including 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl urea, methanesulfonic acid methyl ester, dimethyl sulfoxide and methyl salicylate, was also observed using the RIT device. The product ions of these reactions were analyzed using CID and the characteristic fragmentation patterns of the ionic addition products were recorded using multiple-stage experiments in the miniature RIT instrument. This study clearly demonstrates that a small, home-built, miniature RIT mass spectrometer can be used to perform analytically useful ion/molecule reactions and also that instruments like this have the potential to provide a portable platform for in situ detection of organophosphorus esters and related compounds with high specificity using tandem mass spectrometry.     

Regioselective cyclization of unsymmetrical dicyanoanilines to novel 2,3-bifunctionalised indole regioisomers and their use in the synthesis of 4,5-dihydro[1,3]oxazino[5,4-b]indole-6-carbonitriles

Synthesis of novel-2,3-bifunctionalised indole regioisomers (2/3 and 6/7) from unsymmetrical dicyanoanilines 1 by regioselective cyclization in two independent ways. Regioisomers 6 are further utilized in synthesis of novel 4,5-dihydro[1,3]oxazino[5,4-b] indole-6-carbonitriles 9.     

Synthesis, Characterization and Two-Photon Absorption Properties of a Novel Pyridinium Salt

A novel pyridinium salt, 2,4-bis[p-(N,N-dimethylamino)styryll-N-metlayl pyridinium iodide (BMSPI) was synthesized and characterized by TG, ^1H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis, and the reaction process was studied by using ES-MS. When BMSPI was pumped by a pulsed 1064 nm, 50 ps laser beam, it manifests highly efficient TPA (Two-Photon Absorption) and up-conversion superradiance. The up-conversion efficiency was 6.0% at the pump energy of 4-6 mJ and the lifetime of two-photon fluorescence was measured as 59 ps.     

Synthesis of new tropinone derivatives by palladium-catalyzed couplings of 8-azabicyclo[3.2.1]oct-2-enyl nonaflates

Whereas tropinone derived nonaflate 3 was no suitable precursor for Heck-reactions, the related carbamate 7 was an excellent substrate for palladium-catalyzed processes. Nonaflate 7 was either isolated in excellent yield by LDA treatment of ketone 5 followed by trapping with NfF (nonafluorobutanesulfonyl fluoride) or generated in situ by fluoride-catalyzed reaction of silyl enol ether 6 with NfF. The desired 1,3-diene 8 was prepared by conventional Heck-reaction of nonaflate 7 with methyl acrylate in almost quantitative yield. Alternatively, the one-pot nonaflation-Heck protocol starting from silyl enol ether 6 provided 8 in good yield. The couplings of acrylonitrile or phenyl vinyl sulfone were also performed with in situ generated 7 and they afforded the expected 1,3-dienes 9 and 10 in good yields. The Sonogashira-reaction with phenylacetylene also started from silyl enol ether 6 and provided enyne 11 via 7 in good yield. A Diels-Alder reaction of 1,3-diene 8 with N-phenyl maleimide at 100 °C furnished tetracyclic adduct 12 in good yield, with excellent diastereofacial selectivity, but with low endo-exo-selectivity. Nonaflate 14 was easily obtained from the corresponding unsaturated bicyclic ketone 13. It behaved differently in an attempted Heck-reaction and mainly led to fragmentation products 15 and 16, whereas the expected 1,3-diene 17 was formed only as minor component. However, 14 could successfully be used in a Sonogashira-reaction with phenylacetylene to afford compound 18. These transformations demonstrate the great potential of tropinone derived alkenyl nonaflates for diversity oriented syntheses of interesting compounds containing an 8-azabicyclo[3.2.1]octane scaffold.     

Period-doubling and chaotic oscillations in the ferroin-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction in a CSTR

The ferroin-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky(BZ) reaction,the oxidation of malonic acid by acidic bromate,is the most commonly investigated chemical system for understanding spatial pattern forma-tion. Various oscillatory behaviors were found from such as mixed-mode and simple period-doubling oscillations and chaos on both Pt electrode and Br-ISE at high flow rates to mixed-mode oscillations on Br-ISE only at low flow rates. The complex dynamic behaviors were qualitatively reproduced with a two-cycle coupling model proposed initially by Gy?rgyi and Field. This investigation offered a proper medium for studying pattern formation under complex temporal dynamics. In addition,it also shows that complex oscillations and chaos in the BZ reaction can be extended to other bromate-driven nonlinear reaction systems with different metal catalysts.

TheSemmler-Wolff aromatization andSchmidt reaction applied to some pyrido[2′,3′:3,4]pyrazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]benzotriazines

Pyrido[2,3:3,4]pyrazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]benzotriazin-4(1H)ones were transformed via their oximes in aSemmler-Wolff aromatization process in the tetracyclic heteroaromatic amines4 or bySchmidt reaction into a mixture of the same amine4 and a ring enlarged lactam3. Syntheses of some halo pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridines and a photochemical transformation of 3-azidopyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine are also described.

Zusammenfassung Pyrido[23:3,4]pyrazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]benzotriazin-4(1H)one werden über Oxime in einerSemmler-Wolff-Reaktion in die tetracyklischen aromatischen Amine4 umgewandelt. In einerSchmidt-Reaktion wurden dieselben Ketone in ein Gemisch aus Amin4 und Lactam3 übergeführt. Synthesen von halogensubstituierten Pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridinen und photochemische Umwandlung von 3-Azidopyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridin werden beschrieben.

     

内分子DIELS-ALDER反应合成DRIMANE类倍半萜化合物DRIMENIN, POLYGODIAL及CINNAMOLIDE的全合成

近年来有不少报道从事于生理活性Drimane类倍半萜的合成,较多采用了分子间Diels-Alder反应来建立Drimane的骨架。本文首次采用内分子Diels-Alder反应作为关键反应合成了Drimane类化合物。同时还在引入了手性诱导基团后,首次完成了从无手性的原料化合物β-紫罗兰酮至光学活性(-)-drimenin1的不对称合成。     

Analysis of phosphorus herbicides by ion-pairing reversed-phase liquid chromatography coupled to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry with octapole reaction cell

A reversed phase ion-pairing high performance liquid chromatographic (RPIP-HPLC) method is developed for the separation of two phosphorus herbicides, Glufosinate and Glyphosate as well as Aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), the major metabolite of Glyphosate. Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide is used as the ion-pairing reagent in conjunction with an ammonium acetate/acetic acid buffering system at pH 4.7. An inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) is coupled to the chromatographic system to detect the herbicides at m/z = 31P. Historically, phosphorus has been recognized as one of the elements difficult to analyze in argon plasma. This is due to its relatively high ionization potential (10.5 eV) as well as the inherent presence of the polyatomic interferences 14N16O1H+ and 15N16O+ overlapping its only isotope at m/z = 31. An octapole reaction cell is utilized to minimize the isobaric polyatomic interferences and to obtain the highest signal-to-background ratio. Detection limits were found to be in the low ppt range (25-32 ng/l). The developed method is successfully applied to the analysis of water samples collected from the Ohio River and spiked with a standard compounds at a level of 20 microg/l.     

Copper-catalyzed dimerization of chromium Fischer carbene complexes: synthesis of dialkoxytrienes and their Nazarov-type cyclization to 2-alkoxy-2-cyclopentenones

Fischer carbene complexes 1 underwent a clean ligand dimerization reaction yielding functionalized olefins and trienes 4 in the presence of copper (I) catalysts. If treated with trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), trienes 4c, d, f undergo a cyclization process (Nazarov reaction) which furnishes cyclopentenone derivatives 6c, d, 7c, d and 8 in good yields. Finally, the Fischer aminocarbene 9 efficiently cyclodimerizes to the substituted arene 10 in the presence of CuBr.
