Characteristic classes of flat bundles, II

On a smooth varietyX defined over a fieldK of characteristic zero, one defines characteristic classes of bundles with an integrableK-connection in a group lifting the Chow group, which map, whenK is the field of complex numbers andX is proper, to Cheeger-Simons' secondary analytic invariants, compatibly with the cycle map in the Deligne cohomology.     

Arithmetic cusp shapes are dense

In this article we verify an orbifold version of a conjecture of Nimershiem from 1998. Namely, for every flat n-manifold M, we show that the set of similarity classes of flat metrics on M which occur as a cusp cross-section of a hyperbolic (n + 1)-orbifold is dense in the space of similarity classes of flat metrics on M. The set used for density is precisely the set of those classes which arise in arithmetic orbifolds.

平带电位(E_(fb))是半导体/电解质溶液体系的重要概念,是半导体电极在平带状态时的电极电位,它是半导体电极特有的可以实验测定的物理量。利用Mott-Schottky曲线以及光电化学等方法可以测定平带电位,判断半导体的类型以及估算半导体的载流子浓度,其数值可用于推测半导体的能级结构,确定半导体材料的价带或导带能级位置。这对于与太阳能开发利用相关的半导体光催化和光电化学研究都是非常重要的。本文分析了半导体电极的能带弯曲及影响因素,首次提出半导体界面层内费米能级弯曲,阐明半导体电极平带电位的物理意义及其测定方法,以帮助初学者理解和应用平带电位。     

Prüfer and Morita Hulls of FCP Extensions

We examine in this paper some properties of Morita and Prüfer hulls of FCP and FIP extensions of rings. Dichotomy phenomena appear in the case of a quasi-local base ring. In the general case, we define relative supports that allow us to introduce the concept of direct factorization of an extension and to characterize these hulls.     

Dynamic behaviour of an axially moving plate undergoing small cylindrical deformation submerged in axially flowing ideal fluid

The out-of-plane dynamic response of a moving plate, travelling between two rollers at a constant velocity, is studied, taking into account the mutual interaction between the vibrating plate and the surrounding, axially flowing ideal fluid. Transverse displacement of the plate (assumed cylindrical) is described by an integro-differential equation that includes a local inertia term, Coriolis and centrifugal forces, the aerodynamic reaction of the external medium, the vertical projection of membrane tension, the bending resistance, and external perturbation forces. In the two-dimensional model thus set up, the aerodynamic reaction is found analytically as a functional of the cylindrical displacement, using the techniques of complex analysis. The resulting integro-differential problem is discretized in space with the Fourier-Galerkin method, and integrated in time with the diagonalization method. Examples are computed with physical parameters corresponding to air and some paper materials. The effects of the surrounding fluid on the critical velocity and first natural frequency are investigated, for stationary air, for an air mass moving with the plate, and for some arbitrary axial fluid velocities. The obtained results are applicable for both an ideal membrane and a plate with nonzero bending rigidity.     

The generalized Chern conjecture for manifolds that are locally a product of surfaces

We consider closed manifolds that admit a metric locally isometric to a product of symmetric planes. For such manifolds, we prove that the Euler characteristic is an obstruction to the existence of flat structures, confirming an old conjecture proved by Milnor in dimension 2. In particular, the Chern conjecture follows in these cases. The proof goes via a new sharp Milnor–Wood inequality for Riemannian manifolds that are locally a product of hyperbolic planes. Furthermore, we analyze the possible flat vector bundles over such manifolds. Over closed Hilbert–Blumenthal modular varieties, we show that there are finitely many flat structures with nonzero Euler number and none of them corresponds to the tangent bundle. Some of the main results were announced in [M. Bucher, T. Gelander, Milnor–Wood inequalities for manifolds locally isometric to a product of hyperbolic planes, C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris Ser. I 346 (2008) 661–666].     

Entropy in the category of perfect complexes with cohomology of finite length

Local and category-theoretical entropies associated with an endomorphism of finite length (i.e., with zero-dimensional closed fiber) of a commutative Noetherian local ring are compared. Local entropy is shown to be less than or equal to category-theoretical entropy. The two entropies are shown to be equal when the ring is regular, and also for the Frobenius endomorphism of a complete local ring of positive characteristic.Furthermore, given a flat morphism of Cohen–Macaulay local rings endowed with compatible endomorphisms of finite length, it is shown that local entropy is “additive”. Finally, over a ring that is a homomorphic image of a regular local ring, a formula for local entropy in terms of an asymptotic partial Euler characteristic is given.     

Hermitian-Poisson Metrics on Flat Bundles over Complete Hermitian Manifolds

In this paper, the author solves the Dirichlet problem for Hermitian-Poisson metric equation √?1Λ_ωG_H = λId and proves the existence of Hermitian-Poisson metrics on flat bundles over a class of complete Hermitian manifolds. When λ = 0, the HermitianPoisson metric is a Hermitian harmonic metric.
