Sodium Borohydride – Ammonium Carbonate: An Effective Reducing System for Aldehydes and Ketones

Summary. Reduction of aldehydes and ketones to the corresponding alcohols was achieved in a simple procedure using the system sodium borohydride and ammonium carbonate. This system needs lower excesses of reducing agent and leads to significantly shortened reaction times.     

Promotion of Ionic Liquid to Dimethyl Carbonate Synthesis from Methanol and Carbcn Dioxide

Promotion of ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (emimBr), to the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from methanol and carbon dioxide in the presence of potassium carbonate and less amount of methyl iodide under mild conditions was investigated. The results showed that the high selectivity and raised yield of DMC was achieved due to the addition of emimBr in the reaction system. And effect of several reaction conditions such as temperature, pressure and amount of emimBr was discussed.     

Isentropic partial molal compressibilities of alcohols in propylene carbonate at 25°C

The isentropic coefficients of compressibility of the homologous series of alcohols and diols R _n CH₂OH (n=2–6), CH₃CHOHR _n (n=1–5), 1,2-propanediol, 1,3- 1,4- and 2,3-butanediol, 1,5-pentanediol, and 1,7-heptanediol dissolved in propylene carbonate have been measured at 25°C. Isentropic partial molal compressibilities and group partial molal compressibilities at infinite dilution have been evaluated. The isentropic partial molal compressibilities of these alcohols and diols have been compared with the corresponding values in water. This comparison shows that the values in propylene carbonate are higher than in water by a factor of 10 due to an increased compressibility of the solvation sheath around nonpolar groups in PC.     

Heat capacities and volumes of transfer of cholesteryl oleyl carbonate into various solvents

Heat capacities C _p and volumes V have been obtained at 25°C for the transfer of cholesteryl oleyl carbonate (ChOC) from a reference solvent, the highly-branched alkane 2,2,4,4,6,8,8-heptamethylnonane into various solvents. These include normal, branched, and cyclic alkanes as well as the pure cholesteric ChOC. V and most C _p are associated with the change of environmental free volume during the transfer process and are predicted by the Prigogine-Flory theory. However, for n-alkane solvents with more than twelve carbons, C _p is large, positive, and unattributable to free volume changes. It is consistent with a restriction of alkane segmental motion by the ChOC. The same mechanism has been proposed to explain an antiplasticization effect of ChOC on transitions in polymers.

碳酸二乙酯是绿色的化工原料和合成中间体，具有很高的工业应用价值，它的合成受到国内外研究者的极大重视。本文简述了近些年来碳酸二乙酯合成方法的研究进展，介绍了光气法、酯交换法、氧化羰基化法、脱羰基法、二氧化碳直接合成法以及生化法的优缺点，并着重介绍了乙醇氧化羰基合成法。     

沉淀法制备EPDM-g-MAH/CaCO_3复合材料及其性能的表征

提供了三元乙丙橡胶(EPDM)交联的一种方法.以二甲苯为溶剂,溶液法制备马来酸酐(MAH)接枝EPDM,然后向溶液中加入适量碳酸钙(CaCO3),与已接枝的马来酸酐(MAH)反应.待反应完全后,滴加丙酮作为沉淀剂,沉淀物真空干燥,制得EPDM-g-MAH/CaCO3弹性体复合材料.溶解、溶胀及拉伸性能测试结果表明,复合材料样品已形成有效的交联,且材料的抗张强度、断裂伸长率和模量均得到较大幅度的提高,当CaCO3含量达到体系总重的20%时,复合材料呈现最佳力学性能.上述实验结果是因为碱性的CaCO3的Ca2+可以与接枝在EPDM上的MAH发生配合反应,进而成为EPDM的交联中心,形成有效交联,从而促进了EPDM机械性能的提高,ATR-FTIR和TGA的测试结果被用于证实上述观点.     

Synthesis and Characterization of Amphiphific Block Copolymer Containing PVP and Poly（5-benzyloxytrimethylene carbonate）

Amphiphilic copolymer of 5-benzyloxytrimethylene carbonate （BTMC） with poly （vinyl pyrrolidone） （PVP） was successfully synthesized using immobilized porcine pancreas lipase （IPPL） or SnOct2 as catalyst. Hydroxyl terminated PVP, synthesized with 2-mercaptoethanol as a chain transfer reagent, was employed as a rnacroinitiator. The resulting copolymers were characterized by GPC, ^1H NMR and IR. Increasing the BTMC/PVP-OH feed ratio （[B]/[P]） resulted in the increase of Mn of corresponding copolymers and the decrease of Mw/Mn. Immobilized enzyme has comparable catalytic activity to SnOct2 for the copolymerization.     

N-Alkylation of diethyl acetamidomalonate: synthesis of constrained amino acid derivatives by ring-closing metathesis

An efficient method for N-alkylation of diethyl acetamidomalonate (DEAM) is reported. C-Alkenylation was achieved by treating the N-alkenylated DEAM with various electrophiles in the presence of Cs₂CO₃. RCM reactions of C- and N-alkenylated products gave cyclic amino acid derivatives in good yields.     

β-Tricarbonyl compounds. I. 2,4-Disubstituted 1,3-cyclopentanediones

Summary Stable enolic isomers of 2-aroyl-4-aracyl-1,3-cyclopentanediones such as3 and4 were prepared by condensation of aryl methyl ketones and diethyl maleate using an excess of sodium ethoxide (Aryl=C₆H₅, 4-C₆H₄CH₃, 4-C₆H₄Br and 4-C₆H₄Cl).

Zusammenfassung Stabile Enol-Isomere von 2-Aroyl-4-aracyl-1,3-cyclopentandionen wie3 und4 wurden durch Kondensation von Arylmethylketonen und Diethylmaleat mit einem Überschuß von Natriumethoxid dargestellt (Aryl=C₆H₅, 4-C₆H₄CH₃, 4-C₆H₄Br und 4-C₆H₄Cl).

     

Evaluation of single-ion conductances in nonaqueous solvents at 25°C by the use of tetrabutylammonium tetrabutylboride as a reference electrolyte

Precise conductances for tetrabutylammonium tetrabutylboride (Bu₄NBBu₄) at 25°C have been measured in a number of nonaqueous solvents, and the data have been analyzed by the 1957 Fuoss-Onsager conductance equation. Limiting ion conductances for the Bu₄N⁺ ion at infinite dilution ₀(Bu ₄ N ⁺) in various solvents have been evaluated by dividing ₀ values of the salt into two equal parts. The ₀(Bu ₄ N ⁺) values so obtained are in fairly good agreement (within±0.1–3.5%) with the corresponding values determined from direct transference number measurements in these solvents.
