Existence theory is developed for the equation ?(u)=F(u), where ? is a formally self-adjoint singular second-order differential expression and F is nonlinear. The problem is treated in a Hilbert space and we do not require the operators induced by ? to have completely continuous resolvents. Nonlinear boundary conditions are allowed. Also, F is assumed to be weakly continuous and monotone at one point. Boundary behavior of functions associated with the domains of definitions of the operators associated with ? in the singular case is investigated. A special class of self-adjoint operators associated with ? is obtained.  相似文献

An electromagnetic diffraction problem in a wedge shaped region is reduced to a system of coupled functional difference equations by means of Sommerfeld integrals and Malyuzhinets theorem. By introducing an integral operator it is shown that the solutions of this system of functional equations can be defined in terms of integral representations whose kernels are solutions of a singular integral equation of Cauchy-Carleman type for which an explicit solution is given.  相似文献

We present in this paper a domain decomposition method to treat faults in geological basin modeling. The particularity of this model is that the faults whose widths are very small in comparison with the basin size, are not characterized as subdomains any more but as interfaces between sedimentary blocks. The originality of this work lies in the formulation of this new fault model and in the definition and the computation of the interface conditions between the subdomains. Measurements and data analysis have proved very effective in the study of the Internet's physical fabric and have shown heterogeneities and statistical fluctuations extending over several orders of magnitude. Here we focus on the relationship between the Round-Trip-Time (RTT) and the geographical distance. We define dimensionless variables that contain information on the quality of Internet connections finding that their probability distributions are characterized by a slow power-law decay signalling the presence of scale-free features. These results point out the extreme heterogeneity of Internet delay since the transmission speed between different points of the network exhibits very large fluctuations. The associated scaling exponents appear to have fairly stable values in different data sets and thus define an invariant characteristic of the Internet that might be used in the future as a benchmark of the overall state of “health” of the Internet. A multi-dimensional transient drift-diffusion model for (at most) three charged particles, consisting of the continuity equations for the concentrations of the species and the Poisson equation for the electric potential, is considered. The diffusion terms depend on the concentrations. Such a system arises in electrophoretic modeling of three species (neutrally, positively and negatively charged) and in semiconductor theory for two species (positively charged holes and negatively charged electrons). Diffusion terms of degenerate type are also possible in semiconductor modeling. For the initial boundary value problem with mixed Dirichlet - Neumann boundary conditions and general reaction rates, a global existence result is proved. Uniqueness of solutions follows in the Dirichlet boundary case if the diffusion terms are uniformly parabolic or if the initial and boundary densities are strictly positive. Finally, we prove that solutions exist which are positive uniformly in time and globally bounded if the reaction rates satisfy appropriate growth conditions.  相似文献

We deal with the differential conditions for local optimality. The conditions that we derive for inequality constrained problems do not require constraint qualifications and are the broadest conditions based on only first-order and second-order derivatives. We consider a control system described by the Goursat-Darboux equation. The system is controlled by distributed and boundary controls. The controls are subject to the constraints given as multivalued mappings with closed, possibly nonconvex, values depending on the phase variable. Alongside the initial constraints, we consider the convexified constraints and the constraints whose values are the extreme points of the convexified constraints.
