The elements are separated from iron by solvent-extraction. Cr, V and Mn are separated by ion-exchange chromatography with a strong acidic cation-exchanger. The elements are determined by 14 MeV-neutron activation analysis using γ-spectroscopy. The method is suitable for a concentration range of 0.05 to 5%.  相似文献

We have studied the adsorption of a copolymer of acrylonitrile and methacrylate of nonaethyleneglycol on a kidney dialysis membrane, which contains mostly nitrile groups. The kinetics study reveals at first a rapid increase of the adsorbance, followed by slow variations suggesting rearrangements at the interface. The isotherms do not present a true plateau at high concentration. The high adsorbance observed at low pH or high salt concentration could be related to the ability of polyethyleneoxide to form a complex with cations.  相似文献

Signatures of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) have been identified in serum by means of "Diagnostic Pattern Recognition (DPR)". For DPR-analysis, mid-infrared spectroscopy of dried films of 641 serum samples was performed using disposable silicon sample carriers and a semi-automated DPR research system operating at room temperature. The combination of four mathematical classification approaches (principal component analysis plus linear discriminant analysis, robust linear discriminant analysis, artificial neural network, support vector machine) allowed for a reliable assignment of spectra to the class "BSE-positive" or "BSE-negative". An independent, blinded validation study was carried out on a second DPR research system at the Veterinary Laboratory Agency, Weybridge, UK. Out of 84 serum samples originating from terminally-ill, BSE-positive cattle, 78 were classified correctly. Similarly, 73 out of 76 BSE-negative samples were correctly identified by DPR such that, numerically, an accuracy of 94.4 % can be calculated. At a confidence level of 0.95 (alpha = 0.05) these results correspond to a sensitivity > 85% and a specificity > 90%. Identical class assignment by all four classifiers occurred in 75% of the cases while ambiguous results were obtained in only 8 of the 160 cases. With an area under the ROC (receiver operating charateristics) curve of 0.991, DPR may potentially supply a valuable surrogate marker for BSE even in cases in which a deliberate bias towards improved sensitivity or specificity is desired. To the best of our knowledge, DPR is the first and--up to now--only method which has demonstrated its capability of detecting BSE-related signatures in serum.  相似文献

The present work discusses the grafting by electron beam irradiation of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) star-shaped polymers onto porous expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (EXPTFE) surfaces. The resulting materials are intended to combine the good biocompatible properties of PEO with the outstanding mechanical properties of PTFE. The star-shaped PEOs were synthesized via anionic polymerization. 3 Mev electron beam irradiation was applied to graft these PEO stars onto porous EXPTFE surfaces. The hydrophobic EXPTFE surface had to be pre-modified with N-vinylpyrrolidone. ESCA was used to quantify the amount of grafted star-shaped PEO. Unmodified EXPTFE surfaces are well known, when implanted in a body, to be rapidly covered by a layer of cells and fibrin. The EXPTFE coated with PEO were implanted in the peritoneal cavity of rats (or under the back skin). This implantation did not induce any inflammation reactions and SEM analysis had attested the absence of adsorbed cells and fibrin. The glucose diffusion properties of these membranes were studied by a lag time analysis method and compared to those of pure PEO hydrogels. As expected, glucose diffuses through the hydrogel coated membrane and diffusion is not affected by the presence of the EXPTFE membrane.  相似文献

The interactions between PSS-co-BVE copolymers and ionic surfactants (anionic and cationic) in aqueous solution have been investigated using pyrene as a photophysical probe. Static and dynamic fluorescence determinations have been used to obtain information about the microenvironments formed between both species. Micropolarity studies using the I1/I3 ratio of the vibronic bands of pyrene and the behavior of the I(E)/I(M) ratio between the monomer and excimer emissions show the formation of hydrophobic domains. The interactions between the polyelectrolytes and the oppositely charged surfactants lead to the formation of induced premicelles at surfactant concentrations lower than the cmc of the surfactants. This aggregation process is assumed to be due to electrostatic attraction. At the same concentration, the excimer-to-monomer emission ratio shows its first peak. At higher surfactant concentrations, near the cmc, micelles with the same properties as those found in pure aqueous solution are formed. On the other side, systems containing an anionic surfactant do not show this behavior at low concentrations. There is no apparent dependence of the cac on the composition of the polymer, reinforcing the assumption that the electrostatic interactions induce the formation of the premicelles. The values of the cac's follow the same trend as for the cmc's, DTAC>DTAB>CTAC. The polarity of the induced premicelles, as measured by the I1/I3 ratio, also indicates that the microdomains formed by the longer chain surfactants are more hydrophobic than those of the shorter chain surfactants, as also happens with real micelles.  相似文献

We kinetically stabilize oil-in-water emulsions comprising paraffin crystals by adsorbing solid particles (silica) of colloidal size at the oil/water interface. We obtain a set of emulsions that are quiescently stable for a long period of time (months), while the same emulsions are destabilized after only a few hours in the presence of surfactant molecules alone. The emulsions are submitted to a shear stress in order to probe their stability under flow conditions. Partial coalescence and gelation occur when the shear is applied for a sufficiently long period of time. The experiments reveal the existence of a critical droplet mass fraction, phi*, that defines a sharp transition between slow and fast gelation. The process of gelation is rather slow for phi < phi*, occurring at the scale of hours, and becomes almost instantaneous above phi*.  相似文献

A recently proposed dynamical method [A. Laio and M. Parrinello, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 99, 12562 (2002)] allows us to globally sample the free energy surface. This approach uses a coarse-grained non-Markovian dynamics to bias microscopic atomic trajectories. After a sufficiently long simulation time, the global free energy surface can be reconstructed from the non-Markovian dynamics. Here we apply this scheme to study the T=0 free energy surface, i.e., the potential energy surface in coarse-grained space. We show that the accuracy of the reconstructed potential energy surface can be dramatically improved by a simple postprocessing procedure with only minor computational overhead. We illustrate this approach by conducting conformational analysis on a small organic molecule, demonstrating its superiority over traditional unbiased approaches in sampling potential energy surfaces in coarse-grained space.  相似文献

Films of titanate nanosheets (approx. 1.8-nm layer thickness and 200-nm size) having a lamellar structure can form electrolyte-filled semi-permeable channels containing tetrabutylammonium cations. By evaporation of a colloidal solution, persistent deposits are readily formed with approx. 10-μm thickness on a 6-μm-thick poly(ethylene-terephthalate) (PET) substrate with a 20-μm diameter microhole. When immersed in aqueous solution, the titanate nanosheets exhibit a p.z.c. of − 37 mV, consistent with the formation of a cation conducting (semi-permeable) deposit. With a sufficiently low ionic strength in the aqueous electrolyte, ionic current rectification is observed (cationic diode behaviour). Currents can be dissected into (i) electrolyte cation transport, (ii) electrolyte anion transport and (iii) water heterolysis causing additional proton transport. For all types of electrolyte cations, a water heterolysis mechanism is observed. For Ca2+ and Mg2+ions, water heterolysis causes ion current blocking, presumably due to localised hydroxide-induced precipitation processes. Aqueous NBu4+ is shown to ‘invert’ the diode effect (from cationic to anionic diode). Potential for applications in desalination and/or ion sensing are discussed.

Comparative enantioseparation of the enantiomers of 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-diyl hydrogen phosphate was performed with cyclodextrin (CD)-modified capillary electrophoresis (CE). Two single isomers, beta-CD, heptakis(2,3,6-tri-O-methyl)-beta-CD (TM-beta-CD), and heptakis(2,6-di-O-methyl)-beta-CD (DM-beta-CD) of 98% purity as well as heptakis(2,3-di-O-acetyl)-beta-CD were used and compared in terms of resolution power to randomly methylated and corresponding acetylated beta-CDs, which were synthesized in our laboratory. The methylated ones were characterized by means of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight-(MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry. By testing defined mixtures of single isomers and comparing their resolution power to randomly substituted CDs of similar degree of substitution we could show, that a simple characterization by the average molecular degree of substitution (DS) is not sufficient. In order to get reproducible results, a clearly defined substitution pattern is necessary, which is not given using randomly substituted CDs. Taken together, a validation of a chiral separation with "undefined" CD derivatives is almost impossible.  相似文献
