Spectral studies on VO ions in potassium thiourea bromide single crystals using EPR and optical absorption spectroscopy

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies have been carried out on VO²⁺ ions doped in single crystals of ferroelectric material, potassium thiourea bromide (PTB) at room temperature and in the temperature range 103–343 K on X-band MW frequency. An isotropic octet spectrum characteristic of VO²⁺ ion was obtained due to the fast re-orientation of the VO²⁺ in PTB lattice, which exhibits glassy nature at certain range around room temperature. The temperature dependant EPR spectra of VO²⁺ ions in this host lattice has been attributed to the occurrence of multiple phase transitions due to the combined environment effects of KBr and thiourea materials in the single crystal. From the optical absorption spectrum, the crystal field splitting parameter Dq, tetragonal parameters Ds and Dt have been evaluated and discussed.     

Synthesis and characterization of new epoxy and cyanate ester resins

New epoxide and cyanate ester resins with an aromatic ester backbone namely 1,3-[di-(4-glycidyloxy diphenyl-2,2^′-propane)]-isophthalate (DGDPI) and 1,4-[di-(4-cyanato diphenyl-2,2^′-propane)]-terephthalate (DCDPT) were synthesized and the intermediates were characterized by IR, 1H-/¹³C-NMR spectroscopic methods. The cured products from DGDPI and DHDPI exhibited higher T_g compared with standard epoxy system. The increase in the T_g may be due to the cyanate ester and rigid aromatic backbones present in the curing system.     

A single amino acid Gly-tag enables metal-free protein purification

Analytically pure proteins are indispensable for diverse applications, including therapeutics. Here, we report a methodology where a single amino acid, glycine, enables metal-free protein purification. This robust platform is enabled by a Gly-tag resin for site-specific capture, enrichment, and release through chemically triggered C–C bond dissociation by resonance-assisted electron density polarization.

Gly-tag resin precisely captures and releases a protein with one glycine at the N-terminus. The user-friendly protocol delivers analytically pure protein free of metal contaminants.     

A simple, efficient and highly selective deprotection of t-butyldimethylsilyl (TBDMS) ethers using silica supported sodium hydrogen sulfate as a heterogeneous catalyst

t-Butyldimethylsilyl (TBDMS) ethers have been efficiently and selectively deprotected using silica supported sodium hydrogen sulfate (NaHSO₄·SiO₂) as a heterogeneous catalyst at room temperature to regenerate the parent alcohols in high yields.     

Single-step conversion of N-benzyl, N-trityl and N-diphenylmethyl amines to t-butyl carbamates using polymethylhydrosiloxane

t-Butyl carbamates were obtained efficiently in high yields from the corresponding N-benzyl, N-trityl and N-diphenylmethyl precursors in a single-step reductive transformation employing polymethylhydrosiloxane and di-t-butyl dicarbonate under Pd(OH)₂/C catalysis.     

Synthesis of hapten-phosphoramidites from 2′-deoxyuridine

A total of 11 novel phosphoramidites, 3a-d, 4a-d and 14a-c were prepared from 2′-deoxyuridine functionalized at 5 and 6-position of the pyrimidine ring with hapten reporter groups, e.g. adamantane, carbazole, dansyl and dabsyl, suitable for use in immunodetection nucleic acid testing assays.     

Syntheses and characterization of poly(benzimidazolyl) thiaxanthones

Novel polybenzimidazoles containing thiaxanthone heterocyclic units were synthesised from 2,7-thiaxanthonedicarboxylic acid-5,5′-dioxide and 2,8-thiaxanthonedicarboxylic acid-5,5′-dioxide and two aromatic tetramine hydrochlorides by PPA solution polycondensation in 60–70% yield. Two model compounds, 2,7-bis(2-benzimidazolyl)thiaxanthone-5,5′-dioxide and 2,8-bis(2-benzimidazolyl)thiaxanthone-5,5′-dioxide, were prepared and characterized by spectral methods. The polybenzimidazoles have inherent viscosities in the range 1.13–1.50 dL/g and decomposition temperatures of 495–560°C. The effect of thiaxanthone units on polymer properties are discussed.     

Synthesis and studies on metal coordination with a novel carboxyamide ligand

Novel complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Pd(II) with the new ligand [N,N'-bis(2-carboxy-1-oxo-phenelenyl)ethylenediamine] (H2L) have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility, thermal, infrared, electronic, 1H NMR and EPR spectral studies. Infrared and 1H NMR spectra show that H2L acts as a binegative tetradentate ligand. Coordination occurs through deprotonated carboxylate oxygens and nondeprotonated amido nitrogens in all the complexes. Electronic spectral studies and magnetic moment values suggest N2O2 coordination around each metal centre with strong field square planar chromophores. The probable structures of the complexes have been assigned on the basis of spectral studies. The complex formation between M(II) [M(II) = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)] and (L2-) has also been studied potentiometrically in 75% aqueous DMF at 25 degrees C in 0.1 M NaClO4. The stability constants were found to follow the order: Mn(II) < Co(II) < Ni(II) < Cu(II) > Zn(II).     

(Vapor + liquid) equilibria of the binary mixtures of m-cresol with C1-C4 aliphatic alcohols at 95.5 kPa

Bubble point temperatures at 95.5 kPa, over the entire composition range, are measured for the binary mixtures formed by m-cresol with: methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, and n-, iso-, sec-, and tert-butanols - using a Swietoslawski-type ebulliometer. The liquid phase composition - bubble point temperature measurements are well represented by the Wilson model. (Vapor + liquid) equilibria predicted from the model are presented.
